Five Nights at Freddy's (2023)
Super fun
Me and my kiddo loved this. I'm a horror fan, my kid is not and we both had a lot of fun with this film. I don't get the bad reviews. If you're looking for silly, spooky fun with a dash of violence - Freddy's is well worth it. I plan on watching again before halloween.
Really enjoyed the plot and my kid and I both really enjoyed the twists and turns of the story. The acting was great and it felt perfectly cast. Freddy's met all expectations for us. If you're looking for more of a serious horror movie with realism - you may want to pass on this one. But if it's lighthearted horror with jokes and adorable characters you want - check it out.
The Munsters (2022)
Cheesy, silly, slapstick humor that's not for everyone.
I wasn't that excited for The Munsters after I saw the trailer. It looked unwatchable! But decided to get it a try for the sake of spooky season and my childhood love for The Munsters series & movies.
Turned out Munsters became my favorite Zombie film to release since 2007. Loved this take on the Munsters. It was cute and silly and surprisingly funny. My mom and my daughter both enjoyed it with me. It was cool to have a Rob Zombie film to enjoy with my whole family. Sadly with the bad reviews there likely won't be a sequel. Definitely going to watch this one for years to come. Slapstick and nonsensical humor seem to be dying out, most people clever and witty. Clever and witty this film is not. But if you're looking for turn-your-brain-off-funny it's worth a watch.
Malignant (2021)
So much fun!
If you dont know much about this film - keep it that way. Go in totally blind and suspend your disbelief. If you're a fan of Wan he does not disappoint and if you're not this could be the film to win you over. I only went with 7/10 because the beginning scene and very last scene I found to be very cliche. Not the plot or the story - all of that is incredibly imaginative. The dialog in those scenes just came off very cheesy to me. But it pales against the solid story and great effects and a terrifying villain. Probably a slim change but I'd love a sequel. If you're like me and have been waiting for a scary, fun and thrilling horror movie - Malignant will hit the spot.
Don't Breathe 2 (2021)
Better than the first one
I rented this film but after watching I wished I'd seen it in theaters. I've been waiting for a movie this good. Great acting, great plot and it kept me on the edge of my seat. If you want more of the first Dont Breathe this film delivers and then some.
False Positive (2021)
I wanted to like this but its Into the Dark garbage as usual
Okay, I know this wasn't ACTUALLY an Into the Dark film but lets be real... this was supposed to be a mothers day Into the Dark episode and if it were labeled as such I would have known it was going to be a weird, total trash film. The first act was almost good then it just turns into a migraine. I really wanted to like this film, I love Hulu and some originals are fantastic... some are like False Positive.
Spiral: From the Book of Saw (2021)
I loved it! But I also love Jigsaw so...
I was not put off by the reviews or the rating of Spiral. I'm a day one fan of the franchise and after the ratings on Jigsaw - I knew this film was going to be great. I was hoping for a sequel for Jigsaw when it released years ago. I love the idea of a 'new' Jigsaw copycat carrying on the work. I would really love to see Chris Rock give chase to the new killer in a sequel but I'm not counting on it. This film plays out much like a cop drama in the set up but its raunchy and hilarious so I wasnt mad at it. I think the gore and kills deliver - plenty of blood and new games. It's been a rough couple years on the horror movie scene, I feel like Spiral was well worth it and I will definitely watch again.
Army of the Dead (2021)
Good if you dont mind a not so happy ending
Very interesting movie, good action and great acting. But my middle aged self have been watching zombie movies all my life - and nowadays (more often than not) the ending is just bleak. Seems like a lot of work for little to no pay off. But I still thought it was entertaining enough that'd I'd watch a sequel. Hopefully with a better ending.
Kenan (2021)
Kenan is my new comfort show
I was prepared to dislike this show. But I haven't missed an episode and I've binged the previous episodes while I wait for the new ones. It's touching and silly and even a tiny bit raunchy.. I feel like its a show anyone can enjoy. Which isn't easy in my house.
I'm not big on sitcoms or leaving reviews.. But I was surprised by the mediocre 5/10 star rating on Kenan. Maybe the sad aspect puts people off but I find it uplifting that this show deals with real like stuff - and can still find joy. If you wanna give this show a try, commit to watching 3 episodes before you decide what you think.
