Fantasy Island (2021)
Good remake with one exception
I have enjoyed the series and the stories that they have told so far. They have taken a few things from the original series and made them modern and fun. However, Kiara Barnes as Ruby, is not a good actress and when she is in a scene I cringe. Her accent is all over the place, the storyline of her being the replacement for Tattoo is just not working.
Cooking with Paris (2021)
Entertaining fun and very watchable!
Paris makes a "cooking" show fun to watch! I laughed out loud multiple times, and want the "cookbook" of the recipes - blinged out cover included. I love the different "sous chef" guests, and honestly felt that Paris did some great ideas for party theme while staying in character too. I felt like she got to the true person who joined her, by the simple questions that really gave more insight than a full out "interview" too.
I am hoping for a season 2 and more! Thanks, Netflix!
Everything's Gonna Be Okay (2020)
Don't believe all the bad reviews! This is a winner!
This show! At first, I wasn't sure if I was going to like it, but as I kept watching, I couldn't stop. By the time I was halfway through the first season, I knew that these characters were some of the best I've seen on TV. The writing makes me feel like I'm watching real life in action. The actors are fabulous, and I love the diversity! I wish I had had a Nicholas in my life when I was a teenaged girl!
Home Economics (2021)
Fun first episode!
Thought this was a great introduction to the family! Loving the fact that no one is perfect and the cast did a nice job being likeable. Love all the Matt Damon references and hope maybe he will make a guest appearance sometime! Been looking for a good comedy that makes me laugh and this seems promising!
Time (2020)
Definitely does not deserve an Oscar!
I sat listening to a woman who can use the disgusting "R" word when talking about children and I am supposed to feel sorry for her and the fact that her husband went to prison for committing armed robbery? If the Oscars honor this film, they are slapping an "okay" on a film that refers to children as "R".
Why did her husband refuse to take a plea deal?! They knew the law could put him away for 99 years. She admits they did the crime. I feel sorry for their children who paid for their parents actions. Even her own mother sounds like she gets that if you make bad choices you will have to deal with the fall out.
I agree with others that 13th is a much better film when discussing prison reform. This did not make me see prison reform as an issue - it was a woman who continued to have children with her incarcerated spouse - not Oscar worthy in my opinion.
Little Fires Everywhere (2020)
Don't expect to see the story the book tells - and the horribleness of Kerry Washington
I loved the book, I love Reese. Kerry Washington ruined Mia though. Took too many liberties changing the story, but this I could at least understand since so many movies do change some basics of a book. However, Kerry Washington - ugh! She took a character I liked in the book and made her so unlikeable! It was a chore to watch any scene Washington showed up in. I preferred Tiffany Boone as the young Mia, and this just reinforces the thought that Kerry Washington should not have a career on film!
