Ragnarok (2020)
Stop after season 2.
Ragnorak was a lovely hidden gem on Netflix. Thoroughly enjoyed the different story telling of Thor. In UK it was dubbed English but still made it enjoyable. Lovely scenery and beautiful cast. Magnes transformation over the series is quite something. Laurie's becomes more and more camp. Fjor stays the same throughout! Saxa, sweet beauty. The love hate between the giants (Fjor, Saxa and Ren) and the rest Thor and Co is entertaining set in the back drop of the high school. Evidently Norway has some very questionable fashion ! So season 3. Awful. Unnecessary gay scenes. Storyline that had nothing to do with the Thor myth. And was it a dream? His imagination from a comic? Was the script rushed for some reason? Such a let down.
The Mandalorian: Chapter 19: The Convert (2023)
Tale of two halves.
I think The Mandalorian is an amazing series, the action and the humour mix just right. When Andor came out I had high hopes and every episode disappointed and was just awful. Slow story, slow plot, it could have been so much better. After an amazing start to the episode I thought I was in for another good episode. The flight sequences with Bo and Din were great. The special effects were fantastic, like you where flying along. Tie fighters a nice surprise. Then it went downhill. The Pershing story may go somewhere, but for now I thought I was watching Andor again. BORING ! No one cares about lollies in space ! No one cares about the site seeing. Garbage. Honestly I fast forward 20 mins of naff. Please don't go down the route of Andor !
Devotion (2022)
Lost potential
I watched this movie open mindedly. I don't know anything about the story, but I do like my war movies. The flying sequences were phenomenal. Couldn't fault them. But the plot/story was very meh. I don't know if they were on a time frame to get it done quickly but parts of the story seem pointless or under developed. Maybe a directors cut will come into in the future which will make the haphazard scenes make sense. Overall it was OK. I did fast forward past some of the scenes which were unnecessary. The best bit though was the flying scenes. Very realistic. From the same guy who did TG Maverick.
Andor (2022)
Just awful
12 episodes with maybe 4 good minutes. Urgh it is just awful. I kept watching each week in the hope it would get better but did it heck. The story and or plot is just slow and uninteresting. Unnecessary characters, filler in episodes. Just urgh. Hammy special effects like SW1, 2, 3. I've been am ardent SW fan since I was a child. Rogue One, excellent, Mandalorian, Boba Fett, ObiWan (at a push). All good. The only decent part of this was the very brief scene with K2SO. That was it. Honestly i have zero idea why everyone raves about this. I will no doubt waste my time again on Season 2 but please let's have a story and something of interest.
Andor: Announcement (2022)
What are other people watching?
I am a huge Star Wars fan. Well from episode 4 a new hope onwards to the force awakens. Rogue One I thought was brilliant. This....this is just awful. Honestly it is so slow with a weak plot, weak characters I really just understand what I am missing that everyone else is enjoying. It's just awful ! The eye, ok was probably the best episode so far. This had 5 minutes at a push of good dialogue and story. I was looking for to the K2 robots especially for when its reprogrmmed. I
struggling, i hate it. I watch each episode in the hope it gets better. But it's really not. I wish I knee what others see in this.
Prey (2022)
Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Not many movies these days hold my attention so well, but this, wow ! Absolutely brilliant. Amber plays the role so well. A few nods to the original. Definitely recommend.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Part I (2022)
Meh
The difference between this and The Mandalorian/Boba Fett is the writing. OK its only episode 1, but the script is poor and the over use of green screen, urgh ! Hated it in SW1, 2 and 3. I'll watch it out of curiosity but it's really not the best.
Halo: Inheritance (2022)
Awful
Can't really say anything different to the other reviewers. Why dedicate a whole episode to the most annoying character since Rose in Star Wars??? I have no dea if it got better, I switched off after 15 minutes. Such a shame.
Moon Knight: Asylum (2022)
Phenomenal episode.
Not really heard of Moon Knight apart from the advertising campaign. I gave it a go and found it brilliant. I vaguely hear/understand "fans" aren't liking it; Oscars British accent, something about not being Jewish (?!). But honestly who cares?! Oscars performance is award winning. Especially in ep5. The hippo had me in stitches laughing. Gutted at only 1 more episode as its just getting so good. Hope we don't have to wait long for another series of it.
Halo (2022)
Ignore the bad reviews.
I have never played HALO. I have seen the merchandise in toy shops and thought they were cool. So the prospect of a series, I thought I'd give it a go. Honestly, I am thoroughly enjoying this. Pablo is great as master chief. Maybe because I've not played the game I've nothing to compare it to, but it's really good. Its quite Star Warsy and a bit Blade Runner but it suits the tone. Great series.
Peacemaker: Better Goff Dead (2022)
Not a clue what is going on.
So I've made it to episode 3. Honestly have no idea what is going on. It's awful. Cheesey. But I can't stop watching it. John Cena is funny as. Seriously though, disengage brain and enjoy.
Peaky Blinders: Black Day (2022)
That bloody squeaky sign !
An excellent return to the series. Question for the rest of you, is the bar interior also the same interior used in Frontier with Jason Mamoa?! Same layout. And of the bar, that squeaky bar sign drove me insane ! The only thing worth watching on BBC but I still refuse to pay the license fee.
1883: Racing Clouds (2022)
Phenomenal episode.
The series has been building and building, just like a Yellowstone series would. What an episode. Couldn't fault it. Elsa is brilliant especially talking with the Indians. I have no idea why the hatred of her. I'm a Brit, I love the accent when she narrates. Not annoying at all. Looking forward to the last episode.
1883: Boring the Devil (2022)
Another great episode.
The writing, acting, scenery is phenomenal in this series. In this episode the opening interaction between Shea and Elsa was so moving. Had tears when Sam Elliotts character started welling up.
People who say it's slow, boring simply don't appreciate good writing and acting. Look forward to the rest of the series.
The Book of Boba Fett (2021)
Best episode so far.
Excellent episode. Seeing how Boba got Slave 1 back was great. Not sure what the nay sayers expect, I am finding this series to live up to all my expectations. Brilliant stuff.
1883: The Fangs of Freedom (2022)
What a roller coaster!
So many emotions in this episode. Elsa is a brilliant strong character. I laughed with the love and sex talk. "All the camp knows what you did " hilarious. Then the ending. Jeez, chopping onions. What an episode!
SEAL Team: Keys to Heaven (2022)
Hoofing
Good God. What has happened to Seal Team? I used to look forward to watching it. But now I only watch it in a vain hope it gets better before it ends. Honestly do not know how it will get another season. Jason tripping off cactus juice. Sonny doing lines of coke. Lisa with her head up her arse.
Paramount have done brilliant with Yellowsand 1883. With Seal Team, they've ruined it.
Six (2017)
Cut short too early.
Another series that may or may not have aired in the UK. SIX was a brilliant series. I found it way more entertaining than SEAL Team. Story line was great, great characters. Was cut short to early.
Valor (2017)
Switch brain off to enjoy.
I don't think this actually aired in the UK. I only found it by chance online. Yes there most probably a million things wrong with it, but it was entertaining for me. Not a bad series to watch if you like SEAL Team or SIX.
Yellowstone: No Kindness for the Coward (2021)
Keep Yellowstone, Yellowstone.
Like many other reviewers, I love Yellowstone, best thing on TV (although Dexter new blood is close). I appreciate they want to plug the new series but the introduction has nothing to do with the episode. Just keep it as an advert and keep the 2 series separate.
SEAL Team: Head On (2021)
Just gets worse.
I'm still watching it mainly for the memories of when it was good, but it's just blooming awful to put it mildly. If this makes another season I'll be amazed. Its painful at times to watch. Just seems so far fetched.
SEAL Team: Close to Home (2021)
Downhill this series.
Just like a fellow contributer, I am also a Brit and find in disrespectful how SEAL Team portrays British SF. A few series ago the SAS were portrayed as amateur cowboys, now the SBS? Seriously?
On top of that this transition to Paramount is awful. Gone are the action and great writing. Now it just seems so depressing, miserable and no action. It's like Dad's Army. Paramount single handly ruined the series. Well done. Slow clap...
SEAL Team: What's Past Is Prologue (2021)
What has happened?!
I watch this in UK so I may or may not be up to speed with all of the network changes. I've loved Seal Team since it started. There's a saying of if it's not broke, don't fix it...
This episode had some good parts, but the rest. Oh dear. Jason's tidy whitey pants in a cringy embarrassing half love scene. No. Sonny's mumbling. What?! I had to out subtitles on ! And now Jason has develop tourettes. It doesn't sound right. Like a child who's learned a new swear word. Is he the only one allowed to say the f word ?!
To be fair. It was a dismal episode. I hope it improves.
S.W.A.T. (2017)
A neutral perspective, not as negative as the other reviews
As an Englishman watching S. W. A. T. I have found the series quite entertaining. The stories and action are good, the casting and scripts are ok.
But...there have been a few "fast forward" moments. The 'thruple' ?! Who wrote that and why? That was just awful. Streets mum, yep like many other reviews, annoying, dragged out and unnecessary. And Darryl and his dad, that just didn't interest me at all.
Now the main thing, a lot of reviews go on about how PC it is - leave race, gays, covid, discrimination, whatever, out of the series. Why? This must be the Englishman in me part. Sure it may be uncomfortable viewing at times, but, hey, it's real life. Discrimination at work, racism, protesting, woke. It's all there, it's happening. If anything the series is highlighting it for the viewer.
Overall I have thoroughly enjoyed it, dont listen to the negativity, just wat h it and enjoy for what it is.
Without Remorse (2021)
Switch brain off and enjoy it
I watched TCs Without Remorse last night. As with most stuff, I will imdb it before to see what ratings and reviews it got. I have to be honest, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I hadn't read the book to which almost all reviews compared it to. It was an action packed movie and decent story, that leads up to John Clark. The nay sayers picked at locations/uniforms/the book. Ignore that. Switch your brain off and enjoy it for what it is. An action movie. Dont dissect it.
