Grand Hotel: Long Night's Journey Into Day (2019)
was starting to dig this show ..
.. & then comes ABC's anti-drug regime. I'm actually surprised it took them to e08, 'cause you know they've been dying to incorporate their personal propaganda into this TV show. So to summarize -- when you do drugs, buildings fall on you. Also, you act out on your sister. Not because she came into your room and stole a bunch of your personal belongings .. but because of drugs. This is very much a "the end justifies the means" episode which will 'cause immediate flashbacks of the secret life of an american teenager. ABC used that platform to absolutely bully teenagers into thinking drug use would result in ridicule & being ostracized. ABC's message to the world -- be a terrible, just completely undesirable human being that no one can tolerate .. but be sober while you do it!
The Burning Plain (2008)
very cool -- liked it.
The movie moves back & forth between multiple timelines. i was finding it a tad dreary & boring until i realized how they are all connected. it probably took me awhile longer than the average person because i'm prone to fast-forward & distraction. then i was like, oh! OH!
the story becomes much more intense & morbid & compelling once the connections are revealed. so i guess the moral of the story is that you can't just fast-forward between the jennifer lawrence parts -- you'll definitely miss out.
finding movies that aren't suitable for fast-tracked viewing is fairly rare for me, so i hold them in high regard. i wish more writers & directors could figure out how to do that, but then i guess its hard to do, so that's why is doesn't occur very often.
Into the Dark: All That We Destroy (2019)
i HATE the writers.
I just wrote a review for into the dark's "pure" episode. i declared it one the BEST endings in horror film. that still stands. obviously i had to watch more & stumbled upon this. much like "pure", the filmmakers are so good at the gradual build-up of the anti-hero/villain dynamic. the hate that they're able to generate is intense and very real.
then, when all that hate is satisfied, for whatever reason, they decide to immediately stab at my soul and permanently destroy a lil' piece of it. if "pure" left you feeling good, then please don't watch this. its the exact opposite. i wish i could unwatch this because the ending will haunt me for the rest of my life.
a lot of people might read this, watch the episode, & wonder what the hell i'm talking about. but i know, at the very least, there's more people like me who took a serious blow in their collective souls.
OMG - why would you do that? you people are disgusting.
Into the Dark: Pure (2019)
i came for ciara bravo. i left with so much more.
Congrats to the writers/production/director/performers.
the development of the anti-hero along side my pure disdain & hatred for the villains was flawless. i can't recall the last time i was so involved in the climax of a movie/show. i don't typically yell at my computer unless its sports or something. i yelled at my computer watching this.
EASILY one of the best endings in horror film history.
Snatchers (2019)
yes, its rating is very surprising.
I was excited for this. it sounded different and i've been into the comedy horror genre as of late after seeing a few good ones (satanic panic, life after beth, happy death day). and it started out pretty good.
"how about we just slap you on the kitchen counter and aim you at the vitamix?" lol, that was great.
if it would have kept on with that kind of wit it could have been something special. but rather it elects to go the mayhem-y .. noisy .. screechy .. hyper .. not in the least bit creepy or horror-y route. i was gonna say, "well, PG-13, ya know..." and then i was going to point out that happy death day pulled it off .. but apparently the movie did get an R? HOPEFULLY, that's an error, because that would be sad if they were fine with taking an R and kept on making it in such a juvenile manner.
