The Witcher: Blood Origin (2022)
Pure Garbagio
Pure garbagio. I am a sci-fi geek like Cavill. With all credit to the actors which did a great job, this is a paper thin story completely disconnected from the source material. Again, the actors put in great performances.
This is what happens when:
Everyone is concern about the money instead of the art.
The writing room abandons the source lore and 'wings it'. I can see what Cavill was saying about constantly fighting with 'the writers' before he bailed on Witcher.
Zero concern for sticking to the lore. It looks like a paint by numbers 'thousand talking heads chiming in' to completely muddle the project, mess.
Proof that you can't over-throttle action to cover up not telling a complete story and taking the time to build a character connection.
It was so obviously rushed through post, yikes.
Even a little care to capture the source material would have gone a long way here. This is a franchise killer, I didn't get all the way through the first episode and I am now absolutely sure I wont watch Witcher after Cavill's exit.
Agnes (2021)
High value for a low budget indie
For some reason everyone rates movies on an 'avenger's budget' standard. No green screen or people flying around on wires in this movie.
As far as low budget indies go they did a great job and achieved a production value far in excess of their budget restraints. There was interesting dialog and some good performances in Agnes. Mickey Reeces' quirky and interesting style of directing is evident and we enjoyed seeing how he played with the various scenes and characters. We loved a lot of the witty dialog. The 'hero walk' down the hallway was an epic scene.
Solid performances from Sullivan, McFarland, Browning, and Hall, all made their characters believable and relatable.
Even though the second half of the movie is considerably slower than the first half Quinn, Gunn, and Horowitz put in good performances and do a terrific job carrying the story.
The ending was a little soft and we needed a little more closer on the story.
The Hunt (2020)
Good Entertainment
Enjoyable watch, loved Betty in this, those facial expressions and liners she threw out were epic. New femme action hero? Sfx, gunwork, and stunt effects were well done.
Sweet Girl (2021)
Pretty Good
I guess it wasn't for some folks, I thought it was a good watch. Enjoyed it.
Kesari (2019)
Good Movie
Really enjoyed watching this movie, well done. A great job of story telling to explain a specific point of time in cultural geography and further an understanding of the Sikh culture.
The Rookie (2018)
Woke to Death
Used to be a very entertaining show, this season has a been a huge disappointment.
Warrior Nun (2020)
Very Good Sci-Fi
Kudos to Simon Barry, really enjoyable to watch, very good photography, and a nice mix of dialog types. Well done. Top notch visual effects and foley work. Appreciated the blend of action, storyline, and character development. A lot accomplished in a single season.
As an Armorer I appreciated how the weapons and action were sharp, but wasn't so much as to overpower the story. Big thumbs up to the Armorer and props team.
Beautiful plot twist at the end of season 1, and without cheating. I can usually guess what's going to twist but you stumped me.
Good cast and I enjoyed the acting, I have to admit, this made me an instant Alba Baptista fan, I thought she hammered this role.
Kudos to the Cast and Crew, looking forward to season 2.
The Girl with All the Gifts (2016)
Solid Production
This is a really well told story that was able to capture me from the beginning., A solid plot with a very good twist on the "zombie" genre. The effects were done well and not so over the top that they drowned out the acting. Kudos to the actors for excellent weapons handling, the Trainer/Armorer did well, wish they could have used blanks, but the cg was good. Absolutely loved the ending!!
