Sex & Nudity

  • An episode revolves about a women flabbergasted at the idea of a man helping his ex wife in the shower.
  • A scene shows a television scene where girls are dancing and teasing to strip her top.
  • Missy is watching MTV showing women in bikini doing splits.
  • There are countless references to sex in the series, mostly by adults. Many times men are spending the night with the grandmother, and she has no reservations about that being talked about or talking about it herself. Many times other adults are talking about having sex, either right out or in more camouflaged terms. What is actually shown, though, is only kissing and making out.

Violence & Gore

  • Mild violence, some cases of violence are mostly implied/offscreen and aftermath.
  • Children and teenagers get punched in the face. A teenage girl leaps on a pitcher at a baseball game and repeatedly hits him. A father punches a drunk on his porch, but that is not actually shown.

Profanity

  • "Suck," "god," "crap," "hell," "damn," "ass," "bitch," "bastard," and "balls" repeatedly.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Meemaw is seen smoking in most episodes
  • A recurring character, old woman smokes cigarettes non-stop, but she's always coughing and hacking and gross, so it actually shows smoking is bad for you.
  • George and Connie are seen drinking alcohol in most episodes.
  • Meemaw says that she used to buy marijuana in one episode.
  • Both Alcohol and Smoking occur frequently throughout of the series.
  • Sheldon making jokes about him drinking too much because he's depressed over his career. This is done for comic relief.
  • There is drinking at home and at bars and restaurants all the time. The father in the series has a beer in his hand while watching TV or eating dinner all the time. The grandmother drinks both out and at home. People drink to forget stressful situations, too, but no one becomes a violent drunk. They do pass out and have hanghovers, though. Smoking is shown much less often, but the mother sneaks a cigarette at times when she is stressed out.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • In season 4, a chicken is stated to have been killed offscreen and made into fried chicken, which characters then consume. May be distressing for animal lovers.
  • In some episodes, dark/sad elements are made such death, divorce, family argument, etc.
