She doesn't for one moment come across as being sincere. Dunno 'bout you, but that's a too obviously fake performance. Crocodile tears. I haven't seen the parodies, but this one is almost already a parody of itself.
Comes in like a wrecking ball indeed! Wrecking her own music video with an unconvincing attempt at emoting sorrow. Almost as if one eye is crying, and the other is gauging the reaction.
Why don't I go for it, as normally I am a sucker for this kind of thing?
First off, pardon me, I am biased against the very idea of shaven buzz-cut looks. Not that this is what she sports here, but it is, to me, just a glorified version of the same thing. Long hair is a thousand times better than short hair. Am me myself more an UNLEASHED fan. So, laugh at me, but I look at this, and wince. Okay, Hannah's hair was a wig, but still... Other people are on about the nudity, but that slips past me, all I can think "She shouldn't have done that..." And it isn't only that. She has done much to alienate her fans, shock 'em, and shock their mommies too, and while I am not a prude, far from it, scoundrel that I am, I am a purist, and she's been tainting her own image, so I am not exactly a fan of the new look. My main interest here was the controversy surrounding the music video. I generally do not watch music videos before having them on DVD, as it would spoil the experience, the surprise, so much lie in anticipation, but here, I did get involved, and left her a message of support on VuClip, I well remember. 100% enthralled I am not, but I'd be damned if I'd let the spirit of freedom in creativity be overrode because people are objecting to some nudity. Which, by the way, is very tame, 'scandalous' only because she is everybody's kid sister's idol. But, hell, she doesn't even take those boots off, :) so where's the nudity? (kidding!)
Another big problem for me is the raw sound, it's kinda almost a screech, I guess not really, but I found it off-putting. As I've admitted, I'm not fond of her hairstyle, it's too gamine, and that sounds almost cute, so it's too boyish, too plain ol' stupid geeky boy, that's nailing it a bit better. Yes, yes, yes, the body is of course not boyish, but the 'naked head' is my concern... It's not "put some clothes on, Miley" from me, but "grow out your locks again, Miley" so feel free to laugh at this old uncool dude. What I'm trying to say though, is that this insincere-looking contrived teary bit sounds off, way off. Even if I didn't have my 'petty complaint' nothing could fix that.
But there's more than just that. Laughably ridiculous the licking of the sledgehammer, she is trying so hard to shake off her Walt Disney image that she is making a spectacle of herself. Nudity properly done is fine, I am not faulting her flesh, or performance, but, Miley, do not cheapen yourself with desperately overt, if poorly-executed, displays of simulated oral sex references.
So apart from me coming across as "Hair is a girl's crowning glory. To all blonde princesses, thou shalt not cut thine fine tresses," I have now more or less stated that there is a whole lot more wrong here. But society only sees the nudity. I see a spoilt brat looking very hard like she's trying to cry over a spilt ice-cream cone.
