- Two different versions of this film were shot; an English-language version and a Spanish-language version. Writer/Director Julio Quintana originally wanted to shoot the film in Spanish only, but the producers and actor Martin Sheen pressed him to shoot it in English. Ultimately, he decided to do both; immediately after shooting a scene in English, the exact same scene would then be shot in Spanish. This has resulted in two slightly different versions of the film. Scenes in which there is no on-camera dialogue are identical in each version, and neither version contains scenes or dialogue not in the other version. However, the English-language version runs for 86:29 and the Spanish for 84:57. This time difference is accounted for by the speed at which the actors delivered their dialogue and modulated their performances. Framing is also slightly different in certain scenes, especially in shots with a moving camera.
