The show has been fine up till now, but adding more elements of conflict and sinister drama can only improve the show. The original concept of Fantasy Island in its TV movie pilot from 1976 had Mr. Rourke as an almost devil-like figure. They sanitized this when the show became a series in the late 1970s/1980s -- as another version of The Love Boat.
The characters up to now have been almost sickeningly sweet, I too want a wholesome show, but feel that some dark skies can only add to the mystery around the myth of the island. The characters overcoming serious adversity and facing the more sinister aspects of the magic forces unique to the island would bolster the characterizations and draw more viewers to the show in my humble opinion.
