¡Azúcar! Gloria Calderón Kellett is setting up shop at Cris Abrego and Eva Longoria’s Hyphenate Media Group — and, in the process, getting access to exclusive rights to develop television and film content for the Celia Cruz Estate.
Hyphenate Media Group, launched just a year ago by two of the most powerful Latinos in Hollywood, has been identifying talent such as Calderón Kellett to bring on board. It’s September 2024, and Beyond the Gates is becoming increasingly real. The title transitioned from The Gates to Beyond the Gates. Three members of the cast were announced, two of whom Soap Hub placed on its Dream Casting Wish List for the first new soap created in 25 years. And Karla Mosley — who will play Dani Dupree on the one-hour CBS soap — posted from Atlanta and is excited about being a part of this journey.
Excitement is Building
CBS originally announced its plans to create the first soap opera in 25 years back in April. And there’s more news to come as the highly anticipated production builds up steam to its premiere in early 2025.
The Dream Casting List: The Actors
If you recall, we already dream-cast a list of the female actors we’d love to see when populating the residents of Btg. Many great male actors are out there whose impact would instantly be felt.

High Potential is making its debut on ABC. The new procedural, which flits between comedy and drama, stars Kaitlin Olson as a genius who gets hired as a police consultant after she makes a break in a case that changes the tide of the investigation. Her decision to highlight what they'd missed takes her from cleaning the precinct to helping to solve crimes with Det. Karadec who is definitely not as free spirited as Morgan nor would he bring children to a crime scene but, hey, Morgan is a single mother with three kids, where she goes they go if that's what has to happen.
The show's cast is filled with more than one familiar face. If the name of one of the main and recurring actors is on the tip of your tongue or you're trying to remember what you've seen them in, we've got you covered. Below you'll...

Scrubs ran from 2001 to 2010 and became a cult phenomenon not only in the US but around the world.
At first glance, it could be mistaken for a typical sitcom, but in fact Bill Lawrence's project is much deeper. It's not just about the unique combination of comedy and drama: Scrubs also raised controversial and profound questions that other shows didn't dare to ask.
1. Zack Braff – J. D.
For his performance as J. D., the actor received three Golden Globe nominations. Braff, who played the main character in the series, did not appear only in the last season, when it was decided to reboot Scrubs, changing the location and part of the cast.
Zach's career is successful, and he not only acts as an actor, but also directs films – for example he made Garden State and Wish I Was Here. In 2021, Braff received an Emmy nomination for his work on the Ted Lasso episode Biscuits.

Rebecca Wisocky is one of those stars that just has the “it” factor. A captivating quality that keeps viewers hanging on her every word and glance. Over nearly three decades in show business, she’s stayed criminally under the radar, stealing scenes in films and TV shows while hiding in plain sight. Wisocky certainly showcased her acting prowess on “Devious Maids” (2013-2016) where she slayed as the main antagonist audiences loved to hate, but her role on CBS’ acclaimed comedy, “Ghosts,” is different and devilishly fun.
Wisocky plays Henrietta “Hetty” Woodstone, a costumed, Victorian-era ghost who once owned the manor that main characters Sam (Rose McIver) and Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar) inherited and run as a bed and breakfast. Sam can see the ghosts due to a near-death experience showcased in the series’ pilot and comes to realize that she is descended from the prim and proper Hetty. The resulting juxtaposition...

As production continues on the second season of Peacemaker, we have word on two new additions to the cast of James Gunn's The Suicide Squad spin-off series.
THR reports that Picard's Sol Rodriguez and The Office actor David Denman have both signed on in supporting roles, and at least one of them will play an established DC Comics character.
While details on Denman's role are being kept under wraps, Rodriguez has been cast as Sasha Bordeaux, who made her debut as a Batman ally back in 2000’s Detective Comics No. 751.
First introduced as a young martial artist who is hired as Bruce Wayne's bodyguard by Lucius Fox, The Dark Knight actually trained Bordeaux as his new apprentice before she was framed for the murder of Vesper Fairchild and sent to prison. She later joined forces with the government agency known as Checkmate.

Eva Longoria’s feature directorial debut, “Flamin’ Hot,” had audiences on fire at its world premiere at the SXSW Film Festival on March 11 — while deftly navigating the controversy surrounding the film’s subject without ever addressing it by name.
The movie is based on the life of former Frito-Lay executive Richard Montañez, played by Jesse Garcia, who has said that he was responsible for inventing the Flamin’ Hot Cheetos brand when he was working as a janitor for the company.
Before “Flamin’ Hot” went into production in 2021, however, Montañez’s claims were disputed by a Los Angeles Times report in which Frito-Lay stated that an internal investigation turned up no evidence that “Richard was involved in any capacity in the Flamin’ Hot test market” in 1990. Instead, the Times’ story attributed a Frito-Lay factory in the Midwest with spearheading the Flamin’ Hot brand and credited Montañez for helping to bring to...

Eva Longoria's "Devious Maids" stirred up the Latinx community when it premiered nearly a decade ago. Here was this big, English-language cable show starring five Latinas but as the title reveals, they were all maids. So, did the Lifetime series replicate or challenge the stereotype that Latinas exist solely to serve better-off, Anglo families? The community hotly debated the show before it even came out, sounding off in the popular press and elsewhere.
"When you looked at the promotional materials that Lifetime put out for 'Devious Maids,' the actresses playing those roles were very sexualized in terms of their dress and in terms of their posture . . . And then also the maid again - why do we want to reify that?"
"It was largely dismissed for two reasons: the promotional materials and also the name of the show itself," says Dr. Jillain Báez, Associate Professor in the department of Africana,...

“I love Christmas movies,” declares Gloria Calderon Kellett, the creator and executive producer of “With Love” on Amazon Prime. “Christmas is a big time for Latinos and it was the height of the pandemic. We were sort of feeling, oh, we’re probably not going to be with our families this year. That mixed with this barrage on my Instagram feed of violence against Black and brown and queer and Asian people, plus wanting so much this salve that Christmas movies provide, but don’t often provide to people of color. This is such a feel-good, beautiful genre and it really doesn’t exist for us. I didn’t just present the Christmas episode to Amazon, I presented, ‘What would it look like if we pick up this family and we follow them over the course of a year?'” We talked to Calderon Kellett as part of our “Meet the Experts” TV showrunners panel.
