Micky Dolenz — the sole surviving member of The Monkees — has announced a new EP of R.E.M. covers. Aptly titled Dolenz Sings R.E.M, it’s out on November 3rd. In anticipation, Dolenz has shared the lead single: his version of “Shiny Happy People.” Stream the song below.
In addition to “Shiny Happy People,” the four-song EP will feature Dolenz’s renditions of “Radio Free Europe,” “Man on the Moon,” and “Leaving New York.” The project will be released via 7A Records, and will be available on special yellow vinyl. Pre-orders are ongoing.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers go full “We Didn’t Start the Fire” on their new song, “Poster Child,” from their upcoming album, Unlimited Love, out April 1 via Warner Records.
The track boasts some classic Chili Peppers instrumentals, with returning guitarist John Frusciante’s funk riffs flitting over Flea and Chad Smith’s effortlessly groovy backbone. With his always dexterous vocals, Anthony Kiedis takes a psych-tinged jaunt through the history of pop music and culture in a way that’s very reminiscent of Billy Joel’s “We Didn’t Start...

We're one step closer to seeing Shadyside on the big screen, as 20th Century Fox and Chernin Entertainment have hired a writer to pen their film based on Fear Street, the popular book series that R.L. Stine created before Goosebumps.
The Tracking Board reports that Kyle Killen has been hired to write the screenplay for the Fear Street film. The movie is expected to be an adaptation of the book series, although Stine himself recently revealed on Twitter that "the Fear Street movie will be an original story" and to "watch for it next year." He also mentioned that "there may be more than one Fear Street movie."
Killen has worked steadily as a writer since the early 2010s, working on the TV series Lone Star, Awake, and Mind Games, as well as writing the screenplays for the Jodie Foster-directed The Beaver, the thriller Scenic Route, and the upcoming Sinbad.

I blame Lost for most of the problems with Dig, USA‘s new investigation thriller, but frankly, I blame Lost for a lot of things.
The show is the latest entrant in the limited-run mystery genre, and revolves around Peter Connelly (Jason Isaacs), an FBI agent working in Israel, finding himself caught up in a bizarre conspiracy that spans the globe. Having caught sight of a redhead, who sticks out like a sore thumb among the crowds in Israel, Connelly follows her to the dig she’s been working on. USA's new event series "Dig" is not a simple murder mystery.
Premiering Thursday night on the cable network, the series stars Jason Isaacs (an alum of NBC's "Awake" and the big screen "Harry Potter" franchise) as Peter Connelly, an FBI Agent stationed in Jerusalem, whose messed up personal life is bleeding into his job.
His marriage is at a standstill, he's sleeping with his boss Lynn (Anne Heche) and his work is suffering too. While trying to track down a fugitive in the series premiere, he ends up turning his focus toward something else.

This review is based off the first three episodes, which were provided to us prior to broadcast.
USA is investing a whole lot of energy in touting its new limited series Dig, and after just one installment (three were distributed to press for review purposes), it’s easy to see why. A high-octane conspiracy thriller set against the backdrop of a sprawling excavation in the ancient city of Jerusalem, Dig is bigger and bolder than anything the network has ever attempted, a Da Vinci Code-esque tale of murderous, religious zealots and shadowy organizations preparing for nothing less than the prophecized end of days, told over the course of a single, 10-episode season.
Jason Isaacs stars as FBI agent Peter Connelly, who unearths a sinister plot that dates back 2000 years as he investigates the brutal murder of a beautiful archaeologist (Alison Sudol). The victim is somehow connected to another case, involving...

With a clutch of shiny, new and returning Marvel and DC TV series arriving this autumn and early next year (Arrow, The Flash, Gotham, Constantine, iZombie, Agents Of Shield, Daredevil...) it would be easy for Powers, a live-action series based on the superhero noir series by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming now published by Marvel, to be lost among the throng.
Ensuring the show's visuals stand out from the crowd will be director David Slade, who's joined the Sony PlayStation TV series to establish Powers' look and direct the first two episodes.

NBC's "Rosemary's Baby" adaptation came and went with little fanfare and extremely weak ratings. We've yet to hear a single comment about it from any of our readers or amongst the DC staff. Having finally watched it myself, I was shocked to find that I kind of loved it...
And I wholeheartedly recommend you seek it out for several reasons, five of which are below. First, however, right off the bat I have to say I'm a big fan of Roman Polanski's 1968 film version of Ira Levin's Rosemary's Baby novel, but then again, who isn't? I think we can all agree it's iconic.
So one strike against the miniseries just by virtue of the fact that it has the balls to exist in the same universe as the movie.

"Enlisted," one of this TV season's best new comedies — and easily its most star-crossed — has been in limbo for more than a month. The last new episode of the military sitcom aired in late March, and though Fox promised that the remaining four episodes would air at some point, possibly in a more favorable timeslot, it's not anywhere on the schedule for May — meaning that they'll air after Fox has already made its decision about what shows to renew and cancel. While the show's creator, Kevin Biegel, awaits its fate (and also that of TBS' "Cougar Town," which he co-created), he figured out a way to make the four missing episodes available early to at least some fans. Those four will get their world premiere at the Atx Television Festival, which will take place in Austin, Texas from June 5-8.(*) The series had a very successful debut at last year's Atx,...

I posted my review of ABC's "Mind Games" yesterday. Now it's your turn. For those of you who tuned into the latest drama from "Lone Star" and "Awake" creator Kyle Killen, what did you think? Did you like Steve Zahn and/or Christian Slater? Did you find what the brothers do to be cool or creepy? Did the revelation at the end make you more or less excited to see what's happening next? And will you watch again? Have at it.

With absolutely no ill toward series creator Kyle Killen, it's a little bit crazy to bet on his pilots taking off. He created the critically acclaimed and short-lived Lone Star for Fox, and the mostly critically acclaimed and short lived Awake for NBC. Tonight his latest series, Mind Games, premieres on ABC at 10 p.m., up against Person Of Interest on CBS and Chicago Fire on NBC. Those are not good betting odds. I was nervous going into the pilot of Mind Games that I'd be too in-the-bag for the show: I'm very partial to series set in Chicago; I have a deep love for Steve Zahn; and I adored creator Kyle Killen's previous shows Lone Star and Awake. (Rip to both of them.) Plus, Mind Games isn't about murder, rape, or attempted murder or rape, so it's already distinguishing itself! Unfortunately for all of us, I needn't have worried: I am not at all in the bag for Mind Games. There's no bag. Mind Games, which premieres tonight at 10 p.m. on ABC, is an off-putting misfire.Zahn stars as Clark, a behavioral sciences professor who refuses medication for his bipolar disorder. (“Drugs stop the music,” he says. “Music is where all the ideas come from.”) He works alongside his brother, Ross (Christian Slater), who recently served two years in prison for securities fraud,...

Mind Games Review
ABC/Bob D’Amico
Mind Games, hitting on ABC February 25th, has a lot of things going against it before it even airs, and it’s difficult to judge the chances of overcoming the hurdles, no matter how much you might hope it will. Not only is Christian Slater having a rough run when it comes to TV series, but the show is also the creation of Kyle Killen, who just can’t catch a break.
With past projects Awake and Lone Star (both of them solid shows that deserved far better treatment) falling rather quickly, it’s hard to look at Killen as someone who can put things out that audiences will really get behind, or that will convince networks to stick with for an extended run if they have slow starts.
Our story here is that of Ross (Slater) and Clark (Zahn), brothers who are...

Sj Clarkson, whose cedits include “Heroes,” “House,” “Dexter” and “Ugly Betty,” has been tapped to direct the first episode of the event series, which revolves around FBI detective Peter Connelly (played by “Awake” vet Jason Isaacs), who’s currently working in Jerusalem. "Mind Games," the new ABC drama that debuts tomorrow night at 10, opens with a scene where brilliant psychologist Clark (Steve Zahn) tells his brother Ross (Christian Slater) that when they pitch their new business idea to an investor, they should lead with their weaknesses. "Studies show you are judged to be more likable when you begin by admitting your faults rather than waiting," Clark explains. I don't know if "Mind Games" creator Kyle Killen intended this scene as a meta comment on the strange but often brilliant arc of his career. But the pilot episode is peppered with comments about why the brother's idea — and, thus, the premise of the show — shouldn't work, as well as references to things that have brought down past Killen series like "Lone Star" and "Awake." (At one point, Ross even asks an underling, "How do you feel about moral ambiguity?") I almost wonder if...

Writer/producer Kyle Killen has had some bad luck with some good series. "Lone Star," his 2010 drama starring James Wolk as a Texas con-man leading two lives with two different women he was in love with ran for just two critically acclaimed but low-rated episodes on Fox before getting canceled. "Awake," his 2012 NBC fantasy/crime series featuring Jason Isaacs as a cop switching between different realities in which either his wife or his son died in a car accident, fared a little better, lasting a full 13-episode season before getting cut. ("The Beaver," which he wrote and Jodie Foster directed, faced a different sort of challenge by way of its controversy-laden star Mel Gibson.) So while it's a little disappointing, it's hard to blame Killen for choosing to play things safer in his new series, "Mind Games," which premieres on ABC on Tuesday, February 25th, seeing as he's had two...
