So the Jack Ryan franchise has been rebooted more times than Charlie's Angels and Batman combined, and seemingly to diminishing returns. Not saying there haven't been really good films in Ryan's oeuvre (especially the first three - the one with Alec Baldwin and the two with Harrison Ford), but the last two (with Ben Affleck and Chris Pine) weren't as good. And after the financial disappointment of Jack Ryan: Shadow... Read More...

After the widespread acclaim for Daredevil, the first product of the Marvel Studios-Netflix partnership, all eyes are on Jessica Jones.
Here's everything you need to know about the hard-drinking superhero and the shows that are coming after her.
All 13 episodes of Jessica Jones season one will land on Netflix on November 20.
Who is Jessica Jones?
Marvel Comics superstar writer Brian Michael Bendis created Jessica Jones for the adult-oriented comic Alias, which had nothing to do with Jennifer Garner. Jones, who gained powers after a classic chemical spill that also left her an orphan, was retconned into continuity with a backstory tying into the past of various iconic superheroes.
She was cast as a classmate of Peter Parker's (hell, she even had a crush on him) and was inspired by his crimefighting as Spider-Man to become a superhero too - taking on the identity of Jewel. Yes, Jewel.

Grey’s Anatomy star Rachael Taylor will play Patricia Walker, who becomes Hellcat, in Marvel’s Aka Jessica Jones Netflix series…
Here’s an interesting one – Marvel has announced that the character Patricia Walker will be appearing in their Netflix show Aka Jessica Jones. In the comics, she eventually became the superhero Hellcat.
Hellcat, in the comics, is a member of both the Defenders and the Avengers at various points. She is gifted with telekinesis, psychic resistance, retractable claws and some respectable martial arts skills. Intriguingly, she fought alongside Doctor Strange in one of her first adventures.
However, it seems that the show – for starters, at least – will be sticking closer to Patricia’s origins in the humour and romance comic book titles of the 1940s. It took from 1944 until 1976 for her transformation into Hellcat to take place, so it’s not too surprising that Marvel Studios aren’t starting at that point.

Five episodes into its life, Fox's "Almost Human" is doing several things pretty well and is shaping up to be a fairly enjoyable hour of TV. Yet it still feels like the show is searching for, and not quite finding, an extra gear that would move it from "pretty good" to "must-see."
Monday's (Dec. 9) episode was the show's best since its pilot, and it highlighted some of the things the show has gotten right thus far, in particular the way the show is applying its near-future setting to the cop-show form. That's not the easiest thing to pull off. But so much potentially rich storytelling ground was staked out in the pilot that it's been a little frustrating to see much of that recede to the background.
Let's start, though, by talking about what's working.

Variety have revealed that Matthew Federman and Stephen Scaia - who are currently hard at work on the screenplay for Y: The Last Man's big screen adaptation - have been tapped by Ubisoft to pen the Michael Bay produced Ghost Recon movie. The Transformers: Age of Extiction director is developing the project in the hope of also helming it, so the team behind Ghost Recon have been on the hunt for writers ever since he first committed to the movie (as he has yet to find another project after the fourth instalment of the Transformers franchise is released next summer). Federman and Scaia have also worked on both Charlie's Angels and Human Target. Apparently Olivia Munn and Minka Kelly got the same memo: bright, blue pants are in! The New Girl guest star and Charlie's Angels actress couldn't look more different in what is essentially the exact same outfit: a simple t-shirt and comfy pants. In fact, they're so similar that we're not sure how to judge! In situations like these, we tend to focus on who looks best in their specific style. While we love the comfy, silk look Chris Evans' main squeeze is showing, it makes her look a little sloppy. The former Daily Show correspondent keeps it sexy and sleek with her tight white tank and flowing version of the pant. In the end, Olivia's pants-pairing is closer to perfection in our book....

"Gang Related" doesn't yet have a timeslot on either Fox's fall or midseason schedule, but the network has still released their upfront trailer for the ambitious crime saga.
The series comes from "The Fast and the Furious" writer Chris Morgan and stars Ramon Rodriguez (who played Bosley in the short-lived "Charlie's Angels" reboot). The supporting cast is packed with familiar faces including "Lost" Emmy winner Terry O'Quinn, hip-hop icon RZA, "Fast & Furious" franchise regular Sung Kang, current "Nashville" recurring player Jay Hernandez and character actor Cliff Curtis.
We think "Gang Related" could either be a cooler version of last season's "The Mob Doctor" or a show better suited to cable like "The Chicago Code," but what's your first impression of the trailer?
Related: Check out trailers and snap judgments of Fox's other new dramas for the 2013-14 season including "Sleepy Hollow" and J.J. Abrams' "Almost Human"...

The Carrie Diaries wraps its first season with brunch.
ABC's S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot (now titled Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. so that fanboys can start asking when does Kitty Pride show up) has turned into an Angel reunion with J. August Richards joining the cast in an undisclosed role.
CNN is reviving Crossfire because, at this point, the show Jon Stewart once described as "hurting America" and James Earl Jones' voice is all CNN has left.
Shonda Rhimes gets a lot of praise for the racial diversity in her shows, but there's another admirable trend in her work, all of her shows have included adoptive parents.
EW reports that American Dad is planning an episode where Stan and Francine team up with a quartet of Charlie's Angels-style flight attendants played by Becki Newton, Thandie Newton, CSI: Miami's Megalyn Echikunwoke and Gillian Jacobs.

"Castle" has reached a major TV milestone, the 100th episode. "The Lives of Others" takes an injured Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion) and turns the episode into a "Rear Window" homage. While Beckett (Stana Katic), Ryan (Seamus Dever) and Esposito (Jon Huertas) follow leads on one of their normal cases -- the death of an IRS agent -- Castle sits at home, languishing in boredom and pain medication.
But the boredom goes away as soon as Castle thinks he's witnessed a murder in the apartment across the street... What else happens? Here are five things to know about "The Lives of Others."
Has Castle actually witnessed a murder? Watch the video and decide for yourself.
1. Despite the impressive and bandaged cast, Castle has broken only a very small bone. He whines a lot. He demands attention and food delivery. This is very irritating to Beckett.
2. "You've actually gone 'Rear Window.'...

Christian Slater is giving TV another go, joining Steve Zahn in ABC's drama pilot "Influence."
The show, from Kyle Killen ("Awake," "Lone Star"), is about two brothers who run an agency that applies lessons in psychology and motivation to get its clients what they want. In a boon for "Gilmore Girls" fan fiction writers anywhere, Alexis Bledel has found her next TV role.
Bledel, who appeared on "Mad Men" last season, will star opposite Jason Ritter in Fox's comedy pilot "Friends & Family," an adaptation of British series "Gavin & Stacey." She and Ritter will play the central characters, a couple whose families don't mix very well.
The "Gilmore" connection comes from the fact that Ritter is coming off "Parenthood," where his character was in a relationship with Sarah (Lauren Graham). Graham, of course, played Bledel's mom on "Gilmore Girls" -- although there was never a story line in which they were both interested in the same guy.
More pilot casting:
- Former "Lost" star Naveen Andrews will return to ABC in the network's drama pilot "Reckless," which stars Patrick Fugit as a man trying to free his wife (Eloise Mumford) from prison in a politically unstable country.

To have a Manhattan apartment like those in The Drake just might take a deal with the devil.
The exquisite building on ABC's "666 Park Avenue" is the sort that lines the gracious, monied boulevard. The set, however, is in an industrial strip in Brooklyn on the edge of Williamsburg, the part where hipsters don't yet live.
Here, in an old Schaefer beer factory, the sets still smelled new before Hurricane Sandy. Though production had stopped, as just about everything else did in New York, it was scheduled to resume Tuesday, Nov. 6, despite unspecified damage to the set.
The art deco lobby to the fictional building, which certainly seems to be a portal to hell on the show, is sweeping and elegant, with mirrored tables and the sort of polished black and white floors that Fred Astaire would glide across.
When the action switches to the basement, the show moves to a church in Harlem.

The Fall TV Season presentations for all the new network shows take place this week with the third one announced. Here's a full breakdown of which concepts have made the final list over on ABC.
An odd year for the once mighty juggernaut which can still pack 'em in. It had surprise success stories with "Once Upon a Time" and "Revenge", the latter becoming an unexpected international hit, and several shows have gotten renewals despite more modest numbers. Still, with it battling with NBC for the third and fourth position overall, the network has to introduce ten shows over the course of the season in the hope of getting a few stickers.
Several other pilots didn't make the final cut and won't be seen include the fashion label dynasty soap "Americana", ABC's update of the 90's "Beauty and the Beast" TV series, the Roland Emmerich-produced thriller "Dark Horse", the...

Valderrama And Kelly Fuel Romance Rumours Down Under
Actors Wilmer Valderrama and Minka Kelly have fuelled new romance reports after they were photographed enjoying a romantic stroll during a trip to Australia.
Rumours about a budding romance between the two stars surfaced last month, but Valderrama played down the claims, insisting they had a platonic relationship and had been friends "for a long time".
But the alleged new couple has done little to dispel the romance speculation and Kelly and Valderrama have now been snapped together Down Under, where they both attended the opening party for new Sydney nightclub Marquee - The Star on Monday.
Valderrama and Kelly were caught walking along the water at Balmoral on Tuesday, smiling as they gazed into each other's eyes, while the former That 70s Show star had his arm draped around the actress' shoulders.
Valderrama has previously dated Demi Lovato and Mandy Moore, while Kelly, the star of the failed TV revamp of Charlie's Angels, parted ways with baseball ace Derek Jeter last year.

Valderrama: 'Minka Kelly Is An Old Friend'
TV star Wilmer Valderrama has played down rumours he's romancing actress Minka Kelly, insisting they're just good friends.
The former That '70s Show actor has been photographed out with Kelly on several occasions in recent weeks, and the pair was allegedly seen kissing and dancing together during a night out at West Hollywood's Greystone Manor Supperclub last weekend.
A source told UsMagazine.com, "They were kissing and grinding," adding, "I wouldn't say they're boyfriend and girlfriend, but he's started ignoring calls from some of his other girls."
But Valderrama, who split from singer/actress Demi Lovato in January, brushed off the reports during a Los Angeles radio interview with Ryan Seacrest on Thursday.
When asked about the love claims, Valderrama adopted his cartoon voice for his Disney Junior show Handy Manny and said, "Well, Minka Kelly and Wilmer Valderrama have been friends for a long time and that's all there is to it."
The actor, who has voiced the Hispanic handyman character since 2006, has also previously dated Mandy Moore and Lindsay Lohan. Kelly, the star of the failed TV revamp of Charlie's Angels, parted ways with baseball ace Derek Jeter last year.

The Sci-Fi News: Forward Momentum on 'Y: The Last Man,' 'Paladin' and 'The 5th Wave' Let's call this one the "Oh No I'm At SXSW And Still Need To Write The Sci-Fi Blog" edition of The Last Sci-Fi Blog. With that out of the way, here's the news I desperately searched for since I haven't been following it at all this week: First off, new writers have been hired to tackle the film adaptation of Brian K. Vaughn's acclaimed comic series Y: The Last Man. Matthew Federman and Stephen Scaia got started in television, writing for Charlie's Angels, Human Target, Warehouse 13 and Jericho, but they've recently become a hot commodity in the feature world and are already working on a "Zorro origin story" for Disney. Graphic novel fans got a bit of a treat this week with "Saga," which marks the return to monthly comics for Brian K. Vaughan, one of the medium's most acclaimed talents of the past few years. The writer has come to fame over the last decade or so from creating award-winning works like "Runaways," "Pride of Baghdad" and "Ex Machina," as well as screenplay writing for "Lost" and in the spec market. But he's still best known for "Y: The Last Man," his ongoing series about a virus that wipes out every man on the planet, bar one, failing magician Yorick, and his pet monkey, who must fight for survival in a world where women rule the roost.
With such an irresistible high concept, it's no surprise that studios were interested in a movie adaptation, and New Line Cinema snapped up the rights back in 2007, with the intention of reteaming...

It's been a year or two now since we last heard anything about New Line's upcoming adaptation of Brian K. Vaughan's Vertigo comic book series Y: The Last Man. It was definitely starting to look like the project would be forever trapped in development hell, but this week the movie is once again showing signs of life as New Line has hired a new pair of screenwriters to take another crack at a script. According to THR, they have hired Matthew Federman and Stephen Scaia (Human Target, Jericho) to take the movie "back to the drawing board." The screenwriters are not necessarily recognizable or even respected names, but at the very least, I am glad to see the movie hasn't been abandoned just yet and that we may eventually get a new director and star to replace D.J. Caruso and Shia Labeouf. For those unfamiliar with the comic, Y: The Last Man...
