Bone Lake isn’t just a fun name. For this slow-burn psychological thriller, it’s a promise. Following two couples stuck together in a lavish rental home after a booking error, the husbands jokingly argue whether the lake is named after a local Urban Legend about a serial killer or a guarantee that everyone who stays gets laid. But Bone Lake director Mercedes Bryce-Morgan (Spoonful of Sugar) thankfully asks: Why not both?
Directing from a screenplay by Joshua Friedlander (Holly Slept Over), Mercedes Bryce Morgan’s new thriller deals with the messy, complicated issues that sour long term relationships. Diego & Sage (portrayed by Marco Pigossi & Maddie Hasson) are struggling with the mounting pressure of a single income, now what Diego has quit his teaching position to pursue writing full time. They’re hoping that a secluded weekend getaway will help them reconnect…which is exactly what Will &Cinn (Alex Rose...

Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock’s heel turn leading up to WrestleMania Xl was one of the main draws for audiences. Johnson deliberately elevated his performance and turned it up to 11, wreaking havoc on Cody Rhodes and his dreams of finishing his story. While he and Roman Reigns won Night 1, it was a completely different result on Night 2.
Before the Undertaker, The Rock faced off against John Cena at WrestleMania Xl
Despite Night 2’s match being held under Bloodline rules, and various members including Johnson creating roadblocks for Rhodes, the American Nightmare emerged victorious at the end. Many superstars came to aid Rhodes, including The Undertaker, who chokeslammed the Rock. It seems the Final Boss is not done with the Deadman yet, as he seeks revenge for his actions.

Fresh from Panic Fest 2024, The Ceremony is About to Begin unwraps itself like a meticulously preserved mummy, serving up a fresh twist on the horror mockumentary scene. Directed by Sean Nichols Lynch, this found footage film cleverly marries the allure of ancient Egyptian rituals with the chilling uncertainty of cult dynamics, all captured through a ‘documentary’ lens.

The Phantom of the Opera is sometimes considered one of the Universal Monsters. I get it. From the 1925 version that gave us one of the most infamous unmasking sequences ever courtesy of the great Lon Chaney Sr., through the Hammer iteration with Herbert Lom, all the way up to the 2004 film that gave a lot of us our intro to Gerard Butler. Speaking of that movie, its inspiration and reason for its existence was the Andrew Lloyd Weber musical that premiered in October of 1986 and has had runs all the way through as recently as 2021. 1989 was the beginning of its U.S. tour and we got not one but Two Phantom movies that year. Phantom of the Mall: Eric’s Revenge is cheesy and may just be more well known due to our friend Joe Bob featuring it on the Last Drive In recently. Here in the JoBlo Horror kitchen today...

John Cena’s tenure in WWE stands as one of the most illustrious in the sport’s history, cementing his position as one of the greatest wrestlers of all time, if not the greatest. Widely regarded as one of WWE’s biggest icons, Cena’s legacy can’t really be touched by anyone and it’s not really hard to see why either. With that said, there is a massive decision that the Leader of Cenation made which many fans absolutely do not agree with one bit and it changed the course of WWE for good.

Music is one of the most mysterious natural phenomena of our world and in Irish folk horror All You Need Is Death, music becomes an ancestral force of doom and destruction. Written, directed, and produced by Paul Duane this chilling slow-burn dives headfirst into a hallucinatory world that peels back reality and opens the doors of perception to plane where entities and energies older than mankind thrive and feed on the very fabric of our being.
The importance of music, specifically Irish folk song, is immediately established. Anna (Simone Collins) and Aleks (Charlie Maher) travel the country, interviewing and secretly recording rare Irish folk ballads. The people they meet with are incredibly protective of these songs, and it’s as clear as day to everyone that Anna and Aleks have ulterior motives in acquiring these snippets of their culture. You might often feel like you’re already living through an apocalyptic nightmare, but I assure you that E.L. Katz’s new culty survival horror Azrael is way weirder and more wild than anything you’re doomscrolling through late at night. Written by Simon Barrett, and starring genre badass Samara Weaving (Ready or Not), Azrael is a blood-soaked and buck wild revenge tale set in a fractured world. It’s got everything you could ask for in a post-apocalyptic horror flick. It’s got cults, it’s got shotguns, it’s got seething anger, and (best of all) it’s got weird hellscape creatures lurking in the forest that rip people to shreds...

If you thought babysitting was tough, try stopping the birth of the Antichrist. The First Omen sweeps you into a visually lush 1970s Rome, serving up a sumptuous feast for the eyes that’s as stylish as it is shadowy. Although you might find yourself guessing the twists before they unfurl, the film keeps its grip with a dark, rich portrayal of evil’s origins. It’s all for you, Damien.
“[The First Omen serves] up a sumptuous feast for the eyes that’s as stylish as it is shadowy.”
From the opening scenes, the film devilishly dazzles with a rich color palette that superbly captures the eerie 1970s Rome, replete with political unrest, religious skepticism and foreboding religious iconography. The grandeur of the Eternal City is captured in sweeping vistas, which, combined with a robust orchestral score, elevates the production value to a level that’s a rarity in modern horror flicks. Whoo-ee! I love me a scary spider movie. And like an intricate, hypnotically inviting web, no two spider movies are alike. There are funny spider movies. There are campy spider movies. There are metaphorical spider movies about the unraveling mind, and there are even spider movies so filled with little creepy crawlers that you walk around your house with a slipper in your hand for days after watching them. And what luck that we have Two scary spider movies in such short order, both entirely definitely breeds of hair-raising horror.
Sébastien Vaniček’s Infested, coming hot on the heels of Kiah Roche-Turner’s hilariously Sting, is the exact opposite of a comforting watch. It reminds you that spiders are t e r r i f y i n g, that they thrive (and hide) in every dark corner of this word, and that so many of them (too many of them!

Is still unclear whether the mirror is haunted by evil or a ghost, or just the image of the Amityville Horror house. To be honest, I don’t think the movie itself knows what drives the mirror, but all we do know is that it someone manages to make people dead. Hooray!

Dev Patel (The Green Knight) makes his directorial debut with the action-packed revenge thriller Monkey Man. Originally intended for Netflix this block-rocking bloodbath is finally making its way to the big screen after a tumultuous production that also brought in Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions (no introduction needed), as well as Thunder Road Films, known in large part for their work with the John Wick and Sicario films. And in keeping with the spirit of the films that came before it, and the chaotic nature of its development, Monkey Man is a bare-knuckle brawl of a story built on a foundation of blood, sweat, and tears.
Dev Patel plays our nameless lead, credited as Kid, who has been scratching and scrapping his way through poverty in hopes of one day taking revenge on the people responsible for murder of his mother and the destruction of their entire village. His story is a mystery to us,...

Imagine if you will a line of dominoes that increase in size as they move left to right. A man stands behind the smallest domino, poised to knock it forward, which will instigate a chain reaction leading to the largest domino toppling over. This "domino theory" illustration helps to visualize the causal interconnection between a seemingly innocuous event in the past and a monumental event in the present or near future. It's especially handy when attempting to understand how 20th Century Fox studio head Darryl F. Zanuck's mother getting a cold in 1908 led indirectly to the creation and broad success of the comedy procedural series "Bones" in 2005. And not because "Bones" was a Fox show. The connection is much more serpentine and intriguing.
You see, when the Wahoo, Wisconsin-born Sarah Louise Zanuck caught a hard-to-shake chill in the latter years of the 20th century's first decade, she thought it'd...

Henry Selick and Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas” is officially 30 years old. In a recent interview with The New York Times, the two collaborators recalled Disney not wanting to have its name on the project due to its darker tone. The studio had the film developed under its more adult-leaning production banner Touchstone Pictures. “Nightmare” grossed $50 million in its original domestic box office run, but Selick believes the film would’ve performed even better had Disney put its name behind it.
“Anytime you’re doing something like that, which was unknown: stop motion, the main character doesn’t have any eyeballs and it’s all music, what’s to feel comfortable about?” Burton said, noting that he totally understands why Disney didn’t put its full name behind the project. “Of course they would be nervous about it.”
“They were afraid it might hurt their brand,” Selick added.

The 1994 horror movie "Wes Craven's New Nightmare" was the seventh film in the "Nightmare on Elm Street" series, and featured one of the cleverest conceits for a horror sequel. The vicious supernatural serial killer Freddy Krueger — able to kill his victims from inside their dreams — somehow escaped the surly bounds of fiction and began stalking the actors and filmmakers who made the original "The Nightmare on Elm Street" a decade prior. Heather Langenkamp appears as herself, as does Robert Englund, John Saxon, Craven, and New Line Cinema bigwig Robert Shaye. Langenkamp did have a young child in 1994 — her late son Daniel Atticus Anderson was born in 1991 — but in the movie, Langenkamp's child was named Jacob and played by actor Miko Hughes.
Prior to "New Nightmare," the "Nightmare on Elm Street" series had become increasingly outlandish and cartoony. Freddy was no longer a menacing murderer, but a comedic supervillain who dispatched his victims in creative,...

Diablo 4‘s Season 2 update is not only surprisingly fun but it raised the general power level of nearly every class in the game by a healthy degree. Of course, even the healthiest update will still result in builds that are simply broken.
In this case, I’m reserving the term “broken” for builds that can easily clear high-level content without demanding much skill in the process. These builds are also capable of generating six or seven-figure Critical Strike attacks and are able to do so with relative consistency. So, yes, I think the word “broken” applies.
Before we get into that, though, you may notice there isn’t a Barbarian build on this list. Well…there are some good Barbarian builds out there, but none of them are on the level of these other builds. If you want to play Barbarian, consider a Whirlwind or Death Blow/Upheaval build.

30 years after its original release, "The Nightmare Before Christmas" is, once again, doing big business at the box office. The unquestioned multi-holiday classic -- as both a Halloween movie and a Christmas movie -- was re-released by Disney in more than 1,600 theaters over the weekend in honor of its 30th anniversary. Audiences turned up in a big way as the film made its way into the top five on the domestic charts.
Director Henry Selick's "Nightmare Before Christmas" landed at number five on the charts for the weekend with a $4.1 million haul, per The Numbers. That put it ahead of "Saw X" ($3.58 million) and behind "Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie" ($4.45 million), both of which were in their fourth weekends. Meanwhile, the Tim Burton-produced claymation classic originally hit theaters in limited release on October 13, 1993. The movie's running global total now stands at $95.3 million and counting. Diablo 4‘s Season 2 update is a real game changer that impacts nearly every aspect of the experience in some way. However, some of the updates’ most important changes focus on the game’s roster of Nightmare Dungeons.
In short, Nightmare Dungeons are easier to navigate, filled with more enemies, and yield greater Xp rewards. It’s a global buff to the entire process of running dungeons. In the grand tradition of such updates, though, it turns out that some dungeons are still generally more effective than others.

The world of horror movies is a vast, eerie domain, and venturing into it with a reliable guide is imperative. Among the legion of scream queens and horror heroes, there’s one who’s tiptoed through the genre more than a handful of times while still carving out dramatic cred in Hollywood. Henry Selick is interested in making a 'Nightmare Before Christmas' prequel. The 70-year-old director helmed the classic 1993 stop-motion animated festive flick, which was conceived by Tim Burton, and though he insisted a sequel to the film is unlikely to happen, he likes the idea of exploring Jack Skellington's back story. He told People magazine: "['Nightmare...'] is a perfect movie [that] came out of the perfect time, only to grow into something far bigger over the years.""I think Tim in particular feels like, why mess with that?"He certainly doesn't need to make more money from a sequel. He has had so many other successes, and so far nobody's come up with a great idea for a sequel. "And I still think that Tim gets to decide. I don't think there's any idea that would convince him. That being said, "It might be more interesting to do a prequel. There...

Nancy Thompson is one of the great final girls in slasher history, overcoming Freddy Krueger while her friends ended up with knives through the chest and being tossed around bedroom walls. With just A Nightmare on Elm Street, portrayer Heather Langenkamp began getting call after call offering her other horror roles, but all of those were nothing more than, as she put it, a “Taco Bell burrito” – and she means that in a bad way!
Appearing on Michael Rosenbaum’s Inside of You podcast (via MovieWeb), Heather Langenkamp said her love for her trademark character actually helped keep her away from the spotlight, despite the success of A Nightmare on Elm Street. “Like there’s never as good a part as Nancy. It would just be hard to do that. It’d be like, you know, having this great meal with everything there, and then you go and have a Taco Bell burrito.

Life on the farm aint easy, but it’s a hell of a lot harder when you’ve got flying saucers in your backyard! 2023’s newest sci-fi horror flick No One Will Save You, written, directed, and produced by Brian Duffield (Spontaneous), serves up a gripping story set in a quiet town facing a cosmic threat, all with nearly no dialog.
Right out of the gate, this movie stands out with its unique approach. It tosses a mere five words of dialogue into its 93-minute runtime, making it a fascinating experiment in visual storytelling. In a world of endless chatter, this film challenges itself to do more with less.
Leading the charge is Kaitlyn Dever as the relentlessly resourceful and un-abductable Brynn. a character that could give classic ’80s Final Girls one helluva high-five. Dever’s facial expressions and body language paint the picture of Brynn’s journey, from her...

Suburbia, often painted as the epitome of safety and tranquility, gets a dark makeover in John Carpenter’s latest cinematic venture, Suburban Screams. This six-episode unscripted anthology promises to unearth the dark secrets of seemingly safe neighborhoods, but does it truly deliver the chills?
The mini-series dives deep into the horrors of suburbia, blending documentary techniques with cinematic reenactments. Real-life tales of terror, as told by those who lived through them, form the backbone of this anthology. From the ghostly aftermath of a Ouija party gone wrong in ‘Kelly’ to the relentless stalking in ‘Phone Stalker‘, the variety of stories is commendable. There’s a mix of urban legends, supernatural tales, and very real crimes that keep the viewer on their toes.
The strongest episode of the bunch is undoubtedly ‘The Bunny Man’. Set in Fairfax, Virginia, it recounts the legend of a man in a rudimentary bunny costume who,...

The magic of cinema. The lights dim, the screen illuminates, and we’re transported to another world. But what happens when that world contains… another world? Horror has long been a genre that loves to play with its audience, and nothing says “I see you” quite like a movie-within-a-movie. It’s like a Russian doll of terror, layers of scares unfolding one after another… and who doesn’t love a good nesting nightmare?
Let’s dive into the meta-madness of horror films that give us a double dose of dread, with the movie-within-a-movie trope!
Universal 10. Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982) Movie-Within-a-Movie: Halloween (1978)
Dr. Daniel Challis (Tom Atkins) stumbles upon a sinister plot by the Silver Shamrock mask company to harness Stonehenge’s mystical powers and harm children on Halloween night. Amidst this chaos, a TV commercial advertises the original Halloween movie, suggesting a universe where Michael Myers’ terror is mere fiction.

Catherine O’Hara will reprise her “Sally” character from 1993’s The Nightmare Before Christmas for one of three 30th anniversary concerts at the Hollywood Bowl just in time for Halloween.
The concert will reunite O’Hara with her Nightmare co-star Danny Elfman, who will sing the Jack Skellington role all three nights, Oct. 27-29. Elfman wrote the music for the 1993 Disney animated film.
Singer-songwriter Halsey will perform the role of Sally on the first two nights of the concert series – October 27 and 28, with O’Hara taking over for the Oct. 29 show. Other concert guests include Fred Armisen (as Lock), Riki Lindhome (as Shock) and Ken Page (Oogie Boogie). Conductor John Mauceri will lead the full orchestra and choir.
Although the concert was announced last month, the star line-up was just unveiled. “It’s impossible to believe it has been thirty years since Tim Burton made our strange little musical,” Elfman said in September.

Sure, it’s not easy being a king, but have you tried being married to one? After teasing it earlier this year, A24 has shared the first full-length trailer for Priscilla, Sofia Coppola’s upcoming biopic based on Mrs. Presley’s 1985 memoir Elvis and Me.
American high schooler Priscilla Beaulieu (Cailee Spaeny) is still adjusting to her family’s relocation to Germany when — in a moment almost too good to be true — she meets one Elvis Presley (Jacob Elordi) at a party. It doesn’t take much for the world’s hottest star to become smitten, much to the (understandable!) chagrin of Priscilla’s parents: “Just what is the intent here, Mr. Presley?” her father asks. “Why my daughter?”
Elvis justifies pursuing a girl ten years his junior because “she’s much more mature than her age,” a remark that usually doesn’t come from the most well-meaning men. But...

Early in Wes Craven's 1984 horror film "A Nightmare on Elm Street," the character of Tina (Amanda Wyss) has a violent dream about the demonic, blade-handed Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund). Freddy has been stalking the dreams of all the neighborhood teens, and the nightmares are so vivid that they fear for their lives. Tina dreams that Freddy is chasing her down an alley, that he cuts off his own fingers and feels nothing, and that he can teleport into her bedroom.
In one of the film's more notorious scenes, Tina is attacked and sliced up by Freddy who, defying gravity, drags her onto the wall of her bedroom and up onto the ceiling as she bleeds to death. Once Tina has perished, her body falls from the ceiling onto her bed, landing in a pool of blood, splattering the walls and the face of her poor helpless boyfriend Rod (Nick Corri...

The Saw franchise, notorious for its mind-bending traps and twisted morality, is back with Saw X, a semi-prequel that finds its place snugly between the first and second films. Directed by Kevin Greutert and crafted by writers Josh Stolberg and Peter Goldfinger, this chapter promises a fresh, albeit macabre, spin on the series.

His return is a real treat, a silver lining to the franchise that had to say goodbye to him way too soon. That uneasy space between consciousness and unconsciousness has troubled humans for at least as long as we’ve been writing things down. it’s a liminal space, full of mysteries, which many traditions connect with other worlds – and where there are other worlds, there is the possibility of encountering their native inhabitants, who may not always be friendly. Kjersti Helen Rasmussen’s Nightmare is one in a long line of films to explore this idea, but it does so very cautiously, walking an uneasy line between supernatural possibilities and the psychotic.

In the glitzy world of film, where box office revenue is the equivalent of high school popularity, some masterpieces are the proverbial “late bloomers.” They’re the ones who get their braces off after graduation and become prom kings and queens ….at the reunion, twenty years later. These horror gems, initially overshadowed by the cruel jests of critics or the cold shoulder from box office numbers, have risen like zombies from their graves to claim their rightful place in the pantheon of cult classics.
Let’s uncover these once-buried treasures of horror cinema!

John Carpenter’s frosty extraterrestrial nightmare, The Thing, got the cold shoulder at the box office, scraping up just $19.6 million against its $15 million budget [source]. Critics weren’t kind either; the New York Times called it “instant junk”. Yet, this tale of Antarctic researchers battling shapeshifting aliens has since melted the hearts of horror buffs,...

The "Nightmare on Elm Street" film series was a hotbed for emerging talent. Many of the directors in the franchise would go on to prolific or interesting careers. Chuck Russell, director of "A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors" would go on to make Hollywood blockbusters like "The Mask," "Eraser," and "The Scorpion King." Renny Harlin, who directed "A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master" would likewise enter the Hollywood mainstream with films like "Predator 2," "Die Hard 2," "Cliffhanger," and "Cutthroat Island." Jack Sholder, Stephen Hopkins, and Rachael Talalay also emerged from the series' directors pool.
One can also find a few rising actors at the start of their careers throughout the Freddy Krueger movies. Famously, a young Johnny Depp starred in Wes Craven's 1984 original, and, for "Dream Warriors," Patricia Arquette made her cinematic debut.
