I can’t keep up with him.
On a recent September afternoon, Jude Law is running away from the set of “Black Rabbit,” a Netflix miniseries where he plays a Manhattan nightclub owner who welcomes his troublemaker brother back into his life. Today’s setup, shot in the South Street Seaport, involves a flashback sequence between Law’s character and his scraggly sibling, played by Jason Bateman. Law and I are supposed to meet in the lobby of a hotel after the scene wraps, but filming goes over, and his assistant, Ryan, texts me that Law wants to talk to me as he walks to his trailer a few blocks away. But by the time I make it outside, he’s already a distant figure on the horizon.
Is he that man in blue? “No, he’s in the gray,” Ryan says. “He’s fucking quick.” Unless we sprint — and...

Is Chandler the true underdog hero of Friends? (Photo Credit – Instagram)
While some of us might have sworn allegiance to Monica as our favorite Friend, others know the truth: Chandler Bing’s the real Mvp. This guy had the perfect blend of sarcasm, awkwardness, and heart, making him the sitcom’s comedic goldmine. Played by the legendary Matthew Perry, Chandler was the kind of funny that had viewers rolling on the floor, sometimes just from his signature facial expressions.
But hold up—Chandler wasn’t just the comic relief. His backstory was a wild ride through the land of emotional baggage. Take those Thanksgiving flashbacks, for instance! Chandler’s parents split when he was just nine, leaving him to cope with a mix of dark humor and a pack of smokes. Sure, the writers tossed in some giggles with his smoking habit, but they also touched on the real struggles of addiction.

Did Gandalf Have a Hidden Agenda in Guiding Frodo Throughout The Lord of the Rings? ( Photo Credit – Twitter )
Imagine this: deep in Moria’s dark, dank caves, our ragtag band of heroes is trying to catch their breath after narrowly escaping goblin encounters and navigating ancient dwarven traps. Enter Gandalf the Grey—think wise old wizard meets chill mentor—sitting on a rock like he’s about to drop the most epic life advice ever. Beside him is Frodo with the One Ring.
“My dear Frodo, Hobbits are amazing creatures. You can learn everything there’s to know about their ways in a month. And yet, after a hundred years, they can still surprise you,” said Gandalf, alluding to how brilliant Hobbits are.
Fast forward to Frodo, feeling like he has a ton of bricks on his shoulders. He laments, “I wish the Ring had never come to me.” Gandalf...

Village Roadshow Entertainment Group, the production and finance company that has backed the Matrix and Ocean’s franchises, is undergoing a small round of layoffs.
The banner, led by CEO Steve Mosko, has cut eight staffers in business affairs, administration, as well as film and TV roles over the course of the past couple of weeks, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. The pink slips arrive as the company is exploring strategic options, including taking on more investors.
On the deals front, Village Roadshow has been relatively quiet this year. The company, which has produced more than 90 features with Warner Bros. over the past several decades including Mad Max: Fury Road, Joker and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, has been locked in arbitration with the studio since it filed a lawsuit in February 2022.

Sherlock Producer Teases Show Revival Starring Benedict Cumberbatch - Main Image
Benedict Cumberbatch may be best known as the face of Doctor Strange now, but before that, he made waves as the modern reboot of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes in the hit BBC series Sherlock.
The show had ended back in 2017, and while no revival has been officially announced, producer Sue Vertue gives some hope to fans.
Sherlock Revival in the Works?
Talking to Deadline, Vertue was asked about the possibility of bringing back Cumberbatch’s Sherlock, to which she replied, “We love that show and there is a future for it. One day. Maybe. If everyone wants to do it… I’ve still got the set in storage somewhere, which is probably rotten, to be honest with you… It’s just getting everybody aligned, it’s getting the actors to want to do it.”

Producer Sue Vertue suggests that the world of Sherlock might not be complete: “there is a future for it”, she says of a potential revival.
It was all the way back in 2017 that the massively successful television hit Sherlock transmitted its last episode to date. The show that made Benedict Cumberbatch a star, and co-starring the brilliant Martin Freeman, it also did Andrew Scott no harm at all.
The contemporary take on Sherlock Holmes was created and overseen by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, with Sue Vertue on producing duties. And after Mark Gatiss had hinted about a possible feature film earlier in 2024, it’s Sue Vertue who this time has kept the flame flickering.
She was asked about the possibility of a Sherlock revival at an event in London yesterday. She had the chance to shut the idea down, and – as you can guess from the headline here – she didn’t do that.

My brother Paul McWilliams, who has died aged 43 of a brain tumour, was a visual effects specialist who worked on films including Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007), Sherlock Holmes (2009) and two of the Harry Potter movies (2007 and 2011). He was also part of the team that won an Oscar for best visual effects for Inception (2010).
For a period, however, Paul had another career working with children as a Pe teacher at inner London primary schools. More recently he volunteered for Sports for Hope and Independence in Bangladesh, and his work with that charity led him to set up his own, Sports for Joy, earlier this year, focusing on using sport to work with disadvantaged communities in rural Bangladesh.

Sue Vertue, who produced the beloved BBC reimagining of Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes detective stories, has said the brand is likely to return.
“We love that show and there is a future for it. One day. Maybe. If everyone wants to do it,” Vertue told Deadline on the blue carpet at the Amazon Prime Video Trailblazers event in London.

Justin Kurzel’s political thriller The Order will open the Zurich Film Festival in October with its star Jude Law in attendance alongside the director to receive the event’s Golden Eye Award for his performance and career.
Law plays a FBI agent who dismantles a far-right terrorist cell in the movie, which recently world premiered at the Venice Film Festival and then made its North American debut at Toronto.
The actor will be presented with the award at the Zurich gala premiere for The Order on October 3.
‘Jude Law is an absolute dream guest’, says Zurich Film Festival Artistic Director Christian Jungen. “He is not only the leading actor in the thriller The Order, which he carries from A to Z with his charisma, but also the producer.
“Although the film is set in 1983, it revolves around the machinations of right-wing extremist circles in the USA and is therefore highly topical.

It’s hard to think of an actor managing his career after leaving a franchise better than has Robert Downey Jr. And that makes his announced return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe — in which he’ll be playing the villainous character Dr. Doom in forthcoming “Avengers” sequels, as announced this weekend — come as a surprise.
Downey’s “Iron Man” kicked off of the MCU in 2008, and his character Tony Stark’s death, in 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame,” was a climax of sorts. “Endgame” represented a culmination of all Marvel storytelling to that point: Downey’s definitive departure meant that this particular set of stories, in which wisecracking defense contractor sat at the emotional center, was done.
What immediately followed his departure was a major hiccup, with his film “Dolittle” bombing critically and commercially in early 2020. It was an attempted franchise-starter, and a cynical one: Downey has said since that he was...

Amazon MGM Studios has entered into a multi-year film partnership with Scott Stuber, the former head of film at Netflix. As part of the pact, the streamer and studio will finance and release movies from Stuber’s new production company under United Artists, a languishing label that once operated under the auspice of MGM. In its heyday, United Artists released movies like “The Pink Panther,” “Rocky” “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” “Network” and the James Bond films. The agreement calls for Stuber and his soon-to-be launched company to produce several films annually. They will be released both theatrically and via Prime Video, Amazon’s streaming service.
Stuber’s new company will be based on Amazon MGM Studios’ Culver City lot. The pact is a first-look one, giving Amazon MGM Studios the initial crack at the projects Stuber develops. In addition, Stuber will be involved in all projects released by the new UA.

Yellowstone fame Kelly Reilly was paired opposite Denzel Washington in Robert Zemeckis’ drama film Flight. In the film, Reilly played a heroin addict Nicole Maggen, while Washington played the role of pilot Whip Whitaker, an alcoholic. The intense film was a challenging experience for Reilly, who had to screen test opposite Washington to get the role.

Guy Ritchie is assembling quite the cast for his upcoming Young Sherlock series, with Colin Firth announced today as the latest addition.
Inspired by Andy Lane’s Young Sherlock Holmes novels, the Prime Video series will be “an irreverent, action-packed origin story of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s beloved detective in an explosive re-imagining of this iconic character. At age 19, Sherlock Holmes is disgraced, raw, unfiltered, and unformed, when he finds himself caught up in a murder mystery at Oxford University which threatens his freedom. Hero Fiennes Tiffin will star as the young detective, alongside Joseph Fiennes and Natasha McElhone as Sherlock’s parents and Zine Tseng as Princess Gulun Shou’an. Colin Firth will play Sir Bucephalus Hodge in Young Sherlock.

Few actors of his generation can stake a claim to such a diverse array of productions as Benedict Cumberbatch. The Emmy-winning actor and past Oscar nominee has played everyone from Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Strange to Star Trek villain Khan, Julian Assange, Alan Turing (who brought him an Oscar nomination for “The Imitation Game”), and even Hamlet.
“It used to be just about challenging expectations and trying to do something unconventional to keep myself fresh, because of the amount of exposure I’ve had,” Cumberbatch told Indiewire in November 2021 about his wide-ranging resume. “I didn’t want to keep turning up as fast-talking posh English people. That used to be the main driver. But now it’s much more about the people I get to work with.”
Using that mantra as a guide is how Cumberbatch perhaps found his best role yet: the fearsome, bitter, and repressed rancher Phil Burbank...

Oscar winning actor Robert Downey Jr. has been a part of several fascinating movies. In this list of successful movies, however, his portrayal of Tony Stark in the Iron Man franchise stands out the tallest. But the actor refuses to conform to stereotypes by taking on fresh parts such as the 2009 smash hit Sherlock Holmes. The movie was a huge success.

The massive appreciation of the first installment was rewarded when the makers brought in the sequel, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, with the Iron Man actor reprising his role. Jeff Daniels is always a reliably excellent performer whether its in comedy or drama, TV or film, and the veteran actor has turned in another masterclass performance in Netflix’s “A Man in Full.”
Adapted from Tom Wolfe‘s novel of the same name and created by “Big Little Lies” helmer David E. Kelley, “A Man in Full” follows Daniels as real estate mogul Charlie Croker, who tries to protect his empire and legacy from crumbling when he falls into sudden bankruptcy. Daniels dominated the screen here, chewing scenery, spitting it out with venom, and then re-chewing the scenery some more. Whatever you may think of the show, Daniels is never anything less than ferociously good, as noted by critics.
Nick Schager (The Daily Beast) wrote that the show “struts about with swaggering ferocity, led by Jeff Daniels’ full-bodied performance as a blustery, bloviating capitalist predator… ego is both a...

Edgar Allan Poe's C. Auguste Dupin in 1841's "The Murders in the Rue Morgue" is the first fictional detective to appear in literature, but Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes is hands down the most well-known detective in all of pop culture.
Identifying himself as a "consulting" detective, Sherlock Holmes is intelligent beyond all reason, analytical to a fault, and emotionally distant due to his obsessions with logic. But when he's hot on the case in an investigation, his flair for the dramatics kicks in and he lives to show off his findings. Not because he wants to be the center of attention, but because he must let everyone know just how brilliant he is for cracking the case. He's also a morally questionable individual, who has no problems lying to law enforcement or committing petty crimes of his own if it means getting one step closer to solving the mystery.

As far as the MCU is concerned, the project’s most important and lucrative series is the Avengers series, which currently consists of four movies. The Avengers movies were, in many ways, the culmination of the MCU’s efforts and the most beloved movies in the whole franchise. And while many other heroes got their own series within the MCU, the Avengers are still the main dish, and that is why fans are eagerly awaiting new information on the planned Avengers sequel, tentatively titled Avengers 5. We’ve had some news and rumors in recent months, but it seems that one of the actors from the upcoming movie has given us an (un)intentional scoop!

In the famous words of Beth Dutton, “I am the rock therapists break themselves against.” But for Kelly Reilly, the actress, the reality of her situation is quite literally the opposite. While Beth Dutton exemplifies a wild fearlessness in her character almost to the degree of apathy and cruelty toward others, Reilly is the most gracefully poised woman incapable of a single Machiavellian thought in her head.
Kelly Reilly in Yellowstone [Credit: Emerson Miller for Paramount Network]Throughout her filmography, Reilly has most famously portrayed a Regency-era upper-class lady in Pride & Prejudice, a post-World War II-era opera singer in A Haunting in Venice, and a highly perceptive and reserved Englishwoman in 19th-century England in Sherlock Holmes.
Naturally, it begs the question as to how the actress who faithfully personified such roles can then smoothly transition into a Lady Macbeth-like character in Taylor Sheridan’s twisted tale of a ranch-owning family in Montana.

From Pinocchio’s Revenge to Silent Night, Deadly Night, taking beloved cultural icons and turning them into cold-blooded killers is nothing new in horror. I mean, corrupting traditionally innocent iconography is pretty much the genre’s specialty, but I still find it fascinating how modern filmmakers are fighting back against franchise monopolies by re-imagining popular figures like Winnie the Pooh and Mickey Mouse as murderous monsters as soon as they enter the public domain.
And with the announcement that the Winnie the Pooh: Blood & Honey team’s “Twisted Childhood Universe” is expanding to include evil versions of characters like Bambi and Peter Pan, I think it’s time that filmmakers start looking at some less obvious source material when coming up with their public domain scares. With that in mind, we’ve decided to highlight six public domain characters that also deserve their own horror movies. After all, if these...

How do you change a culture? Influence the storytellers. That’s the vision that drives the work of Rideback Rise, the nonprofit organization founded by producer Dan Lin to provide support to creators of color.

The role of Superman is undoubtedly one of the most exciting ones in the world of superheroes. So, if you’re into that sort of thing, there is certainly a lot to take from the role, and it is one of the best roles that an actor can get. But, as it often turns out in Hollywood, some actors tend to have a false perception of a role at one point. Just remember that Sean Connery (in)famously rejected the role of Gandalf because he did not understand it, whatever that means. Well, famous British actor Jude Law recently revealed how he was also offered a superhero role more than two decades ago, but he turned it down. The project was ultimately scrapped, but even if it had been done, Law wouldn’t have been a part of it.

Robert Downey Jr. is one of the most sarcastic and incredibly humorous celebrities in the entertainment industry holding an inquisitively extensive knowledge of almost everything. Robert Downey Jr. might have become one of the most prominent Hollywood stars thanks to his portrayal of Iron Man in the MCU, but he has a plethora of other roles. Every time a popular franchise is revived, people tend to wonder if it was ever necessary. In the world of crime dramas, there's no source more popular than Agatha Christie's novels or Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes. No matter how many times these stories have been told, every producer and director wants to put their own spin on them.
Guy Ritchie tried his hand at Sherlock Holmes in 2009 and 2011, releasing two films, Sherlock Holmes and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, starring Robert Downey Jr. Both movies got decent reviews and a lot of happy viewers, but that wasn't enough. Now Ritchie is back with another project and another Sherlock.
Who Will Be the New Sherlock Holmes?
While the world is still wondering who will be lucky enough to play James Bond, it's not the burning question we should be asking. After the success of Robert Downey Jr.
