Exclusive: BAFTA-nominated Friday Night Dinner director Steve Bendelack is helming a comedy movie about an ageing rock band who reunites.
Bill & Ben Productions and Night Tide Films are combining on Heavenly Waters, which will shoot in Greece later this year.
Heavenly Waters tells the story of a rock band who, after an acrimonious split in the 1970s, agree to come together in Greece to scatter the ashes of their biggest fan, but things don’t go according to plan.
The pic is the writing debut of producer Kim Leggatt and actor David Schaal.
Bendelack is a two-time BAFTA nominee who was nominated in 2012 for Channel 4’s Friday Night Dinner. He has also helmed a wealth of iconic British comedies including Spitting Image, Little Britain, The Royle Family and Mr Bean’s Holiday.
Heavenly Waters reunites Leggatt with producers Ben Timlett and Bill Jones.

The animated version of Rowan Atkinson’s silent slapstick sitcom Mr Bean is to return to television for a fourth series in 2025.
Mr Bean must be one of the most well known comedy characters on the planet. Relying entirely on Rowan Atkinson’s rubber face, slapstick and visual humour, Atkinson first wrote the show with Richard Curtis and Robin Driscoll almost 35 years ago.
Premiering in 1990, Mr Bean ran for just 15 episodes, with stories typically following a formula of the hapless title character trying to accomplish a seemingly simple task and escalating it to farcical levels. Memorable moments include a dangerous diving experience, putting his swimming trunks on without removing his trousers and, perhaps the most iconic sequence from the entire series – getting a turkey stuck on his head. In 1997, the character went to America in the feature film Bean: The Ultimate Disaster Movie, which was directed by the much missed comedian Mel Smith.

A New Year means lots of removals from Netflix and January 1st is looking busy, with over 100 movies set to leave the service already. Below, we’ll be keeping track of all the Netflix departures for the first month of 2024.
First, a few housekeeping notes as to how Netflix removals work before we dive in. Due to licensing agreements, shows and movies added to Netflix aren’t added forever. Instead, they’re essentially rented for a fixed period. All the shows below have their current window on Netflix ending and will likely be bound for a rival streaming service.
We list titles slightly differently from other outlets, with our listings being the actual day of removal. If you want to watch any titles scheduled to expire on January 1st, for example, you’ll need to watch by the end of December 31st.

Netflix is on the cusp of taking down a wide selection of movies and TV series.
The streaming service removes numerous titles each month, but without fanfare; unless you happen to select the thing that’s about to leave, you will have no idea there’s a limited amount of time left to watch.
Fortunately, we’ve compiled a list of every movie and TV show being removed from Netflix in April 2023.
We’ve aggregated all the impending removals from Netflix in the UK and US, which we’ve signalled below. If there isn’t a territory listed next to the title, then it will be leaving both.

It's that time of the month when you're about to find out which movies and television shows you've had stockpiled in your watchlist are about to expire. No worries. It happens to the best of us. We live in an era where there's way too much to watch that some will inevitably slip through the cracks. But if you were hoping to catch a few of them before they're gone or off to a different streaming service, then it's not too late!
Everything I have listed here won't be leaving Netflix until the start of November, with some leaving right as the post-Halloween period begins. A new month has arrived, which means a fresh batch of movies and TV shows streaming on Netflix. While many are no doubt still making their way through “Stranger Things” Season 4, June brings the arrival of a new season of another beloved Netflix series: “The Umbrella Academy.” The third season of the semi-superhero show premieres June 22 and finds the gang stranded in a timeline where the Umbrella Academy does not exist, while battling not only a rival team but also plenty of timeline-altering shenanigans.
In terms of new Netflix original films, June 17 sees the debut of “Spiderhead,” a psychological thriller starring Chris Hemsworth, Miles Teller and Jurnee Smollett and directed by “Top Gun: Maverick” filmmaker Joseph Kosinski.
June will also see the debut of the new Adam Sandler-fronted basketball inspirational drama film “Hustle” on June 8, while a litany of comedy specials from the likes of Pete Davidson and Amy Schumer...

The Umbrella Academy season 3 is set to be released June 22 and it will be a busy one for the Hargreeves family of crime fighters. After averting a 1963 nuclear apocalypse in season 2, the gang returns to the present only to find there’s a new team called the Sparrows living in their house. For the past two decades, Raphael Benoliel has been Hollywood’s man in France. With more than 40 projects under his belt, the Nice-born Benoliel has turned his Firstep production banner into a kind of one-stop-shop for international shoots, amassing line producer credits on projects as varied as “Les Miserables,” “Stillwater” and “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.”
And if last year might have been Firstep’s busiest year to date following back-to-back shoots of “Emily in Paris,” “John Wick: Chapter 4” and David Fincher’s “The Killer,” this year shows no signs of letting up, which makes the circumstances of Firstep’s founding all the more ironic.

Actor Rowan Atkinson is globally loved for playing Mr Bean, but he says he finds portraying the character stressful and exhausting.
The 65-year-old is developing an animated film based on the popular character, but he says he finds "the weight of responsibility not pleasant", reports dailymail.co.uk.
Atkinson played the titular role in the hit series from 1990 to 1995. He also starred in the films -- Bean Movie in 1997, and Mr Bean's Holiday in 2007.

There are a lot of popular streaming platforms to choose from, but Hulu has always stood alongside Netflix as one of the two essentials for households looking for diversity in content. In the past, they’ve been known for focusing more heavily on newer television content, while Netflix has always offered a larger selection of sought-after films. But now, it looks like Hulu’s June lineup is only going to continue the service’s recent trend of providing high quality movies to bring itself in line with their competitor.
First up, you can get wholesome with Mr. Rogers in A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, which tells the story of an investigative journalist who learns some hard life lessons from one of television’s most beloved personalities. You can then supplement that wholesomeness with My Girl and My Girl 2 for some wonderful 90s nostalgia.

June 2020 is set to be a big month for the whole streaming Disney family. Not only will ESPN+ have the entirety of The Last Dance on its servers for late-adopting sports fans to catch up with, but Disney+ will be premiering its long-awaited Artemis Fowl film. Over on its biggest streaming service in Hulu, however, Disney is taking things a bit more slowly.
This month finds only three major original releases for Hulu. Animated medieval comedy Crossing Swords premieres on June 12, then Ya love story Love Victor and cooking show Taste the Nation with Padma Lakshmi both arrive on June 19. All in all, that’s not a bad haul for originals for the typically slow summer months.
June 1 sees a pretty impressive crop of movies coming to Hulu’s library as well. October Sky, The X-Files (1998), and Casino will all be ready to stream at the beginning of the month.

Well here we are. April is going to be a fairly sedentary and isolating month for a lot of people. At least we now thankfully have some guidance as to our entertainment options as HBO has released its new streaming releases for April 2020.
HBO’s original series premieres are pretty busy this month. The fourth season of Issa Rae’s excellent comedy Insecure arrives on April 12. That’s preceded by the fascinating docuseries Atlanta’s Missing and Murdered: The Lost Children and followed by book adaptation I Know This Much is True.
On the film side of things there are a few exciting options. Good Boys arrives on April 4, It: Chapter Two on April 11, and Stuber on April 18. Some older movies arriving on April 1 are Team America: World Police, Die Hard, and Slumdog Millionaire.
Here is everything else coming to HBO Now and HBO Go in April 2020 via HBO PR.

Mr. Bean is no longer a married man. Rowan Atkinson and his makeup artist wife, Sunetra Sastry, are divorcing after 24 years of marriage, the Telegraph reports. The Mr. Bean's Holiday actor, 60, and Sastry reportedly split last year. According to the Telegraph, the comedian has allegedly been dating actress Louise Ford for the past 18 months. We might have dismissed it as "relentlessly dull", but Terminator Genisys has found a powerful fan: China. Even bad press can't penetrate the Great Firewall, apparently.
And this isn't the first time that a film has defied expectations on its journey eastwards. Come marvel at these unlikely Chinese hits. (If some of these figures look small, it's worth noting that the Chinese box office has grown exponentially over the last handful of years. Thanks to Box Office Mojo for all stats.)
Dragonball: Evolution

Filmgoers and Dragon Ball fans were equally turned off by this incomprehensible monster of a film. Even Chow Yun-fat and Spike from Buffy couldn't save it, so how Dragonball: Evolution became the tenth highest grossing film in China in 2009 we'll never know.

Rowan Atkinson has spoken about Mr Bean as the comedy character turns 25 years old.
The actor recalled the origins of the "vindictive" Bean and contemplated the success of the "outrageously self-centred" character.
"There are moments of sentimentality in Bean but normally it's undermined pretty rapidly by his outrageously self-centred and self-regarding behaviour," Atkinson told The La Times.
"I certainly always enjoyed the vindictive side of Bean, and I think it's interesting to have your cake and eat it.
"I think sometimes he can be rather sweet, as children can, and sometimes he can be extremely unpleasant, as children can. He covers the child spectrum, I think, quite well."
On his intentions for the character, Atkinson added: "I remember feeling the frustration of the parochial nature of comedy and thinking how nice it would be if one could break that tradition and find something that was of genuine international appeal."

You probably won't respect me after I tell you this, but the movie that really made me want to come to Cannes was Mr. Bean's Holiday, in which Rowan Atkinson's monosyllabic waif wins a trip to the French Riviera and gets lost every which way en route. There are more elegant pictures set in Cannes, like Brian De Palma's Femme Fatale, with its bad-girl jewel thief Rebecca Romijn. But Mr. Bean's haplessness, and ultimately his joy at being here--in the end, footage from his own awkward home movies accidentally finds its way into a pretentious art-house thing, vastly improving it--speak more directly to my own experience .The place is a bit mad, really, something the finale of Mr. Bean's Holiday captures: All of the characters--including a pompous actor-...

First appearing in 1958, Paddington Bear, the polite bear from deepest, darkest Peru with a love of marmalade sandwiches, has become a classic character in English children's literature, with his books selling over 30 million copies worldwide, and has become a recognisable character thanks to various cartoons and merchandise licensing. Now, the bear will be coming to the big screen, with the help of director Paul King, whose big screen debut Bunny And The Bull was endlessly inventive and enjoyable. Considering this and the fact he's best known for directing all three series of T.V. show The Mighty Boosh, he seems like an odd fit for the beloved character, but his visual style will definitely add something special to the movie, which is planned as a mixture of live action and computer generated animation. Nothing else is know about the project, save the script is written by Hamish McColl (Mr. Bean's Holiday...

While Universal Pictures is planning to soon release "Ted," a movie about a dirty teddy bear, Warner Bros is hard at work on a movie about another bear, a more polite one, named "Paddington." And today, we have the first poster for the film. Check it out below. The project was originally announced back in 2007, when it was revealed that "Harry Potter" producer David Heyman was on board. Hamish McColl (Mr. Bean's Holiday) was writing the screenplay for "Paddington," which is a CGI/live-action movie based on Michael Bond's series of books for young children. Paul King (The Mighty Boosh) is directing. Paddington has journeyed from Darkest Peru, wearing a duffle coat, hat and Wellington boots, carrying a suitcase containing an empty jar of marmalade and wearing a label around his neck that reads "Please look after this bear, thank you." His arrival in the household of the Brown...

The fate of those four horny sixth-formers, currently on world tour, will tell us a lot about the prospects for British film overseas
In Russia, they're Переростки, in Italy Finalmente Maggiorenni, in France Les Boloss. Pay attention, because this could be important for the future of British film. The Inbetweeners, as we English christened them, are currently on world tour. The Russian translation literally means "children who are older than everyone else in their class", and the Italian "finally adults". But it's the French moniker, a slangy and pejorative splice of "bourgeois" and lopette ("fag") that properly shows how every country brings different cultural expectations to the same film. Premiere magazine's verdict – "The charm of the television vignettes is diluted through the course of a film whose awful comic tempo makes it resemble a fish-and-chips version of Les Sous-Doués en Vacances" [a 1982 comedy] – was typical of a more contemptuous strain of criticism...

Friday A.M. Update: Paranormal Activity 3 earned an estimated $8 million from midnight screenings at 2,200 locations last night. That's a marked improvement over Paranormal Activity 2, which earned $6.3 million from 1,800 theaters at midnight.Forecast: After a few quiet weeks, Paranormal Activity 3 looks to provide the jolt needed to bring the box office back to life. At the very least, the horror three-quel shouldn't have any trouble hitting the top spot against mild competition from The Three Musketeers, Johnny English Reborn and The Mighty Macs. Paranormal Activity 3 is set to haunt around 4,500 screens at 3,321 locations, while The Three Musketeers battles on roughly 3,800 screens at 3,017 locations (a 3D theater count is not currently available). Johnny English Reborn and The Mighty Macs have much lighter releases, hitting 1,551 and 975 mostly single-screen locations, respectively.Coming off the enormous success of the first Paranormal Activity ($107.9 million), Paranormal Activity 2 debuted to a huge $40.7 million...

Eight years after the first film, audiences are flocking to see Rowan Atkinson's spy sequel; and Disney introduces an old friend to a new generation in 3D
The winner
Conventional wisdom dictates that sequels can suffer at the box office when there is a significantly long gap between releases, but eight years after Johnny English, audiences have embraced the follow-up in huge numbers. Johnny English Reborn opened at the weekend with £4.96m, which compares with a debut of £3.44m for the original Rowan Atkinson spy caper in 2003. Another comparison: Mr Bean's Holiday began its run in 2007 with £4.50m plus £1.94m in previews. The Johnny English Reborn opening number is the best for any film since The Inbetweeners Movie arrived in mid-August.
The runner-up

Rowan Atkinson has revealed that he will probably not play the role of Mr Bean again, because he thinks he is now "too old". The actor portrayed the clumsy character on the TV series Mr Bean from 1989 to 1995, before returning in two movies, 1997's Bean and 2007's Mr Bean's Holiday. Atkinson explained that while he would "never say never" to resurrecting the character, he now feels that he is "less qualified" for the part due to his age. "I've got a feeling I probably won't play the character again," Atkinson told the Daily Mail. "Never say never, (more)...

Given the hefty sales of The Inbetweeners DVDs, fans of the sitcom had already shown a willingness to part with their cash. Buying a box set is one thing; paying for a one-off cinema experience is something else. In fact, with an astonishing opening weekend of £13.22m, including £4.57m in Wednesday/Thursday previews, it seems likely that The Inbetweeners Movie is already reaching beyond the fanbase to an audience that only viewed the three E4 series now and then. The question is how much further it...

The Inbetweeners Movie has broken box office records in the UK, beating blockbusters Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Cowboys & Aliens to secure the number one spot. The feature film adaptation of E4's popular sitcom, starring Simon Bird, Joe Thomas, James Buckley and Blake Harrison, banks more than £13 million from 455 screens across the UK to coast past its big-budget competition. The Inbetweeners Movie's debut weekend, including previews on Wednesday and Thursday, makes it the biggest opening of all time for a UK comedy. Bridget Jones: Edge of Reason (£10.43 million), Wallace & Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit (£9.37m), Mamma Mia! (£6.59m) and Mr Bean's Holiday (£6.44m) follow the The Inbetweeners Movie in the UK all-time list. Producer Chris (more)...

The Inbetweeners: The Movie sees Will, Simon, Neil and Jay transported, in all their puerile glory, to Crete. But do the writers and cast realise this is the end?
The feature film-of-the-sitcom is one of the less heralded genres in cinema. Forty years ago, when Hollywood's vision of a low-budget hit was the cool and radical Easy Rider, the British film industry couldn't have been eulogising a less glamorous form of transport, when Hammer brought the sitcom On the Buses to the big screen.
That first On the Buses film made more than a million pounds, and sparked a gold rush. 1973 saw nine films based on sitcoms, including Love Thy Neighbour, Father, Dear Father and even For the Love of Ada. By the end of the decade, though, the notoriously thin quality of the adaptations meant the genre had become irrevocably tarnished.

Willem Dafoe is a man of eclectic taste, vacillating between decidedly arthouse fare like "Antichrist" and "The Dust Of Time," low rent fare like "Mr. Bean's Holiday" and "Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant" and straight up tentpole movies such as "Spiderman" and the upcoming "John Carter Of Mars." He follows his muse wherever it goes really, and it looks like it has a taste for the supernatural. THR reports that Dafoe is in talks to join "The Mummy" and "G.I. Joe" director Stephen Sommers' gestating tween thriller "Odd Thomas." Starring Anton Yelchin and Addison Timlin, the film is an…...

For getting on fifteen years now, Working Title, the biggest dog in the U.K. production company world, have carved out a severely profitable niche in family comedies that, while they barely make an impact in the U.S. market, manage hugely impressive grosses internationally--a remarkable feat, considering that comedy is the hardest genre to translate successfully. Starting with the biggest, "Bean," in 1997 (which managed a haul of $250 million worldwide, five times the U.S. take), they've come along every few years, with one equally successful sequel to that film, "Mr. Bean's Holiday," and a pair of "Nanny McPhee" pictures This…...

In the history of cinema, there have been 416 films that have made $200 million or more (not adjusted for inflation) worldwide. Thirty-six of those movies managed to make over $200 million without a lot of help, percentage-wise, from the United States. That is to say, less than 30 percent of the overall gross of those 36 films came from domestic audiences. I don't know why this is fascinating to me, but it is. Maybe it is to you, too. I like box office numbers. Like this fun fact: Did you know that the Brad Pitt movie Troy, which was considered a huge failure in the United States, actually made nearly $500 million worldwide? It's true. Also, though Avatar is the biggest grossing movie of all time in America (and overseas), it only received about 28 percent of its $2.7 billion box office from America.
Overall, however, I have to concede that most of the movies --- save...
