“Stranger Things” hype shows no signs of slowing a month after the ’80s nostalgia-fest first debuted on Netflix. The show’s synth-heavy soundtrack continues to be among its most popular elements, so news of its official release should come as pleasant (if unsurprising) news to many. Volume One is already available digitally and coming to the now-rarefied CD format on September 16; Volume Two is now streaming on Soundcloud and can be bought on CD as of September 23.

You’d be hard-pressed to find a film that can transcend the unpleasantness of Austrian filmmaker Gerald Kargl’s sole directorial feature, Angst. A title difficult to obtain copies of in the United States, it’s one of those titles passed around amongst aficionados who prefer their boundaries stretched or surpassed when it comes to taste, and the film feels like a progenitor of unsettling material like Man Bites Dog (1992) or Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer (1986). And yet Kargl’s unsung masterpiece of distress usurps the discomfort engendered in those later titles thanks to ambient score and spectacular camerawork. Touted as a film influencing the likes of Gaspar Noe, on record as proclaiming the title to be ‘the rarest masterpiece of cinema,’ widespread availability should mark this as a film worthy of reconsideration and a much wider cult following.

Hey, for the first time in The Following's history, the FBI does something right! Of course, the thing they did right was rounding up the dregs of the dregs of Joe Carroll's cult, but at least the FBI has arrested some Carrollers! Sure, they might have shot a few of them when they were unarmed, but hey, you can't make an omlette without executing a few serial killers for trying to flee the police.
The other thing the FBI does well is harass Ryan Hardy. Sure he's conducting his own vigilante investigation of Joe's remaining Carrollers and is generally being uncooperative in his dealings with the FBI - for the most part - that doesn't mean... oh wait,...
The Following's second season boldly combines extreme violence with black comedy, but will audiences get the joke?

The actor is about to appear in the return of BBC1's Sherlock and Peter Jackson's blockbuster sequel The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
There was a scene in The Office in which Tim Canterbury, the benign sales rep played by Martin Freeman, compared his life to a roll of the dice.
"My situation now may only be a three. If I jack that in, go for something bigger and better, I could easily roll a six," he told the programme's faux documentary maker. "I could also roll a one. Ok? So I think … just leave the dice alone."
Freeman, who will star alongside Benedict Cumberbatch in the eagerly awaited return on New Year's Day of BBC1's Sherlock, and as Bilbo Baggins in Peter Jackson's blockbuster sequel The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug next week, has just rolled a double six.

Based on the number of stars in the cast of August: Osage County, the big screen adaptation of Tracy Letts‘ Pulitzer Prize-winning play, the film looked like a sure-fire best picture Oscar contender. Some even began referring to it as “August: Oscar County” before anyone had even seen a frame of it. But then the film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this month, and was met with reviews that one might call very mixed, if one was feeling generous. Some of the performances that it showcases were cheered — particularly those of Meryl Streep, Chris Cooper and Margo Martindale — but the movie itself clearly had problems, with director John Wells even admitting that its ending might have to be changed prior to its Christmas Day release.

Mistresses proved that the best intentions can send you straight to Hell this week... or at least bring you close to being arrested for "Breaking and Entering."
I like Karen, but sometimes I think she is the dumbest smart woman on TV. I suppose being well educated doesn't give someone common sense, especially when it comes to matters of the heart.
For a psychiatrist, she's certainly unable to decipher her own behavior. She can't stay away from Tom's family because she misses Tom. Oor she feels so guilty for the affair that she's hoping to get caught. It's probably a little bit of both.
The problem is that she's not only hurting herself, she's hurting Sam and Elizabeth. Now Elizabeth must deal with the suspicion that her late husband was having an affair and Sam gets to live with the guilt of exposing that information to his mom.

Mistresses' latest episode, "Breaking and Entering," sees Karen break into her dead lover's apartment, the one he kept a secret from his family. What will she find there? But more important, will someone find her?
Meanwhile, Josslyn's new boss is the complete opposite of the old one, meaning she can't string him along like a puppet because he doesn't seem to want her sexually (which really confuses her), and Savi continues to deal with her guilt.

Assassins, contract killers, hitmen. Whatever you want to kill them, they are a popular fixture of Hollywood movies.
This week sees the release of The Iceman, Ariel Vromen’s film based on the book The Iceman: The True Story of a Cold-Blooded Killer by Anthony Bruno, tells the story of real-life Mafia hitman Richard Kuklinski. Nicknamed The Iceman because he froze some of his victims, he was tough, calculating and very slick.
Will his movie counterpart be the slickest movie assassin of all time? Only time will tell, but he has a lot of competition.
Let’s take a look at the top ten slickest movie assassins, by perusing though their profiles on CheckedOut, the professional network for contract killers
10. Joe
Name – Joe
Aka – Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Summary – As a teenager I worked as a burglar in Kansas City, until I got caught breaking and entering a watch shop.

1.) With Texas Chainsaw 3D sitting atop the domestic box-office charts this week, it's only natural for sequel talk to begin. And according to Bloody Disgusting, the producers have the rights to make six more films in the franchise. These slashers are relatively low-risk, so you have to figure Lionsgate will keep churning them out. 2.) I haven't done one of these Star Wars stories in a while, but honestly, news is pretty slow today so I don't have much of a choice to pass this one along. Early fan favorite for the Episode VII director's chair Guillermo del Toro says he was approached about the gig, but had do decline due to his busy schedule. He did offer his take on who he'd like to see at the helm: "I think the fans deserve somebody that is just going to immerse themselves completely. As a geek, I would have loved to see Brad Bird take it.

Garrett gets out of jail to meet 'A'!
Well, originally it’s to see his mother in the hospital and Emily's like I Hate Everything About Compassion just like she always gets whenever people are nice. But then Spencer puts together that 'A' injured Garrett's mom in order to get him out of jail and talk to him about Murdering, lolz. So she stalks him at the courthouse and gets stopped by Detective Wilden, who apparently has nothing to do with his life but threaten teenage girls. That's a fail, but Thankfully Paige is a screw-up and Nate is a stereotypical angry black man (get to...

The clever chaps at PS3 Trophies have pulled a fast one and unearthed some forthcoming trophies for Arkham City Dlc. Warner Brothers are declining to comment, but this new, and as yet unannounced Dlc pack, seems to feature both Harley Quinn and Robin.
This will be the fourth Dlc pack for Arkham City after the day one Catwoman pack and the subsequent Robin and Nightwing Challenge packs. What’s interesting however, is that this new pack seems to contain 10 trophies, where the Night Wing and Robin Packs only had two each. This indicates that the pack will presumably be bigger than just a few more challenge rooms and an extra character.
Lost Property (Bronze) – No crimefighter should be without this Breaking and Entering (Bronze) – Find a way into the secret base How’s It Hanging? (Silver) – Clean up the Dry Docks The Last Laugh (Silver) – The joke’s on who?...

Even if you only remotely follow Hollywood’s awards season, you know that the Razzies are the anti-Oscars. Now in its 32nd year, the Razzies dis-honor the year’s worst films and performances with a tacky little homemade-seeming trophy topped with a golden raspberry.
But the differences, as I found out last night when I covered movie’s smallest night, do not end there. Oh no, all awards ceremonies are not created equal, I assure you. I’m not sure what should have been my first clue — the new April Fool’s Day observance date, the parking in a public...

Vera Farmiga typically plays characters who are emotionally wise (or at least savvier than the people around her). From her New Jersey mom rescuing a child from a couple of vicious sexual predators in Running Scared to even a less flattering role as an Eastern European prostitute working the streets of London in Breaking and Entering, not to put too fine a point on it but she comes across as one tough, smart cookie. And it's kind of refreshing to see that maybe that's a case of directors casting based on reality after watching the recent Blu-ray release of her directorial debut Higher Ground in which she also stars. There's a certainty in front of and behind the camera as the actress guides her character...

Chicago – I frankly can’t imagine how any moviegoer could favor Mateo Gil’s somber, low-key genre exercise, “Blackthorn,” over George Roy Hill’s marvelously entertaining 1969 classic, “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.” Sure, Western buffs have often criticized Hill’s film for romanticizing its subject matter, yet there was a dark edge and tragic poignance in William Goldman’s script that earned the film its shattering ending.
Moviegoers seeking similar thrills from “Blackthorn” will be sorely disappointed. The picture is a wholly unremarkable rethinking of the Butch Cassidy legend that fails in its aspirations to leave an equally iconic imprint on the oft-mythologized tale. Miguel Barros’ script bases its premise off the conceit that Butch and Sundance’s death in the 1908 Bolivian standoff was based on unsubstantiated evidence. It’s an intriguing premise, but Barros just uses it as an excuse to concoct a less whimsical retread of Goldman’s formula.

How stimulating, and utterly refreshing, it is to see a movie with a distinctly female voice that deals with faith, and how one woman grapples with it, through good times and bad, throughout the course of her life. That Vera Farmiga gives an honest, empathetic performance should come as no surprise; she is one of the most gifted and daring actresses of our time, as she’s proved in such films as Down to the Bone, Breaking and Entering, and Up in the Air. This movie allows her to add “director” to her résumé. (After being cast in the film and…...

Cliché: a phrase, expression, or idea that has been overused to the point of losing its intended force or novelty, especially when at some time it was considered distinctively forceful or novel.
With Hollywood producing so many movies ever year, it is no surprise that they are often full of clichés. Jeff Smith created this montage under the Bottoms Up Productions label for acclaimed movie blog FilmDrunk.com, showing clips of some of the biggest movie clichés from a total of 102 films. An Aardman Production For Sony Pictures Animation Martin Freeman, David Tennant, Imelda Staunton, Jeremy Piven, Salma Hayek, Brian Blessed, Brendan Gleeson, Russell Tovey, and Ashley Jensen Also On Board
Culver City, Calif. – Hugh Grant will voice the lead role alongside an all-star cast in The Pirates! Band Of Misfits, the new stop-motion, 3D, animated film produced by Aardman Animations for Sony Pictures Animation. The film, which will be distributed by Columbia Pictures, will be released March 30, 2012 in North America.
Hugh Grant, starring in his first animated role, is the luxuriantly bearded Pirate Captain – a boundlessly enthusiastic, if somewhat less-than-successful, terror of the High Seas. With a rag-tag crew at his side (Martin Freeman, Brendan Gleeson, Russell Tovey, and Ashley Jensen), and seemingly blind to the impossible odds stacked against him, the Captain has one dream: to beat his bitter rivals Black Bellamy (Jeremy Piven) and Cutlass Liz (Salma Hayek) to...

Perennially popular crime writer best known for the Inspector Ghote series
The crime writer Henry Reymond Fitzwalter Keating, who has died aged 84, was more than happy to be known simply as Harry, although publishers always billed him as Hrf Keating. Over half a century, he published roughly 50 novels. More than two dozen of these featured his best-known hero, the unassuming Indian policeman Inspector Ganesh Ghote, who also appeared in short stories, and television and film adaptations of Keating's books. Timid, nervous and deferential, Ghote was neither a detective genius like Sherlock Holmes nor a streetwise tough-guy like Philip Marlowe. He was always underestimated by his enemies but his great strength was a combination of integrity, perseverance and an overwhelmingly benevolent interest in people.
Keating wrote several books before creating Ghote. His first novel, Death and the Visiting Firemen, was published in 1959. It was followed by more witty and slightly surreal novels,...

The Oscar-nominated actress despairs at the dearth of good female parts offered by the big studios. The solution for her was simple – to direct and star in her own feature film
In the garden of Vera Farmiga's home in upstate New York, the grass is stained by a patch of darkened ash. Every time she is sent a script she doesn't like – a script that is badly written or underdeveloped or contains unchallenging female characters in a state of semi-permanent undress – Farmiga (pronounced "Far-mee-ga") puts it to one side. Then, when the pile of unwanted scripts is big enough, she builds a bonfire and burns them.
"They do get thrown in and used for fertiliser," she explains with a quiet, apologetic laugh. "It's recycling. Bonfires need to be fed and scripts, after all, are wood." There is a pause. "Especially the wooden ones."
One imagines there are a lot...

Clint Eastwood’s latest soon-to-be-acclaimed outing as a director seems to now be sticking with the title “J. Edgar”, after having flirted with “J. Edgar Hoover” and in addition to the previous casting news (which you can look back through here) we now have an update of the “one in, one out” variety.
Having previously been rumoured to be on board as Helen Gandy, a Justice Department file clerk who then became Hoover’s Pa, Charlize Theron has now backed off, although rumours abound that her representatives had portrayed her as being more interested in the role than she really was, resulting in her having to apologise to Eastwood.
Of further interest are reports that now being free of the Hoover bio-pic, Theron may be available to star in Ridley Scott’s Alien prequels. Ridley Scott seems to be less keen on the idea, which may therefore result in a...
