With Katy Perry stepping away from her role on American Idol, the singing competition will return for Season 23 in 2025 with a new lineup of judges. ABC confirmed it greenlit the show for another season toward Season 22’s finale, which saw Abi Carter emerge as the winner. The American Idol fandom received the news with mixed feelings as Perry wouldn’t be part of the upcoming season. Alongside Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie, the American singer debuted as a judge on the show following ABC’s revival in 2018. Katy Perry announced her exit from the show in February 2024 on...

Jason Aldean's wife Brittany Aldean received very mixed feedback as she showed off her stunning figure in swimwear on Instagram. In June 2022, the American Idol face and wife to country star Jason struck backyard poses in a structured orange bikini and pants look, flaunting her killer curves in a bandana and shades and seemingly having fans on the fence about her outfit. Despite a witty caption, Brittany fell under fire in the comments, with many deeming her ensemble ugly and unflattering. The mom of two does not appear to have addressed the haters.

Netflix made some noise in the unscripted world when it hired Jeff Gaspin, the former NBCUniversal chief, as its new defacto reality boss earlier this year.
The hire ostensibly signaled that the streamer wanted to step up its unscripted efforts and take on the broadcast networks when it comes to buying big entertainment formats.
During his time as NBC’s head of alternative entertainment, he developed series including The Apprentice, The Biggest Loser and Deal or No Deal and after his promotion, his last act as Chairman of NBC Universal Television was buying The Voice, which other than The Masked Singer, was arguably the last major entertainment format to breakthrough on the broadcast nets.
Netflix is now doubling down on efforts to find its version of The Voice.
“The difference from the past is we want to focus on bigger formats, more of what you would call broadcast-style shows versus the cable style shows.

American Idol winners don’t always stay with their record label as they navigate their music careers, and now, another one has done likewise. Some of them like Maddie Poppe were devasted to lose their record label. Meanwhile, others get dropped or changed because they make mistakes like Laine Hardy.

Katy Perry often advises the winner of the talent show, and she knows that winning isn’t the end of the journey to success. In fact it’s just the beginning. While a record label forms part of the prize from ABC, not everyone hangs in there.

American Idol will return for Season 23 in 2025 without Katy Perry as one of the three judges. Alongside Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie, the American singer-songwriter has been a judge on the singing competition for seven years. She auditioned for the role in 2010, when she featured as a guest judge on the show. Despite her spat with Kara DioGuardi, a regular on the show at the time, the guest-judging gig left Perry determined to be a part of the show. She notably stated she’d abandon singing if given a permanent role on American Idol. “The American Idol experience...

Netflix is bolstering its entertainment formats unit with a big new music competition series.
The streamer has ordered Building The Band (w/t) as it shifts its focus away from cable-esque fare to competing with the major broadcast networks for the next The Voice or American Idol.
Check back tomorrow for an interview with new Netflix reality boss Jeff Gaspin on the company’s new strategy.
Building the Band seeks to discover the next great music group without bandmates initially meeting face-to-face. The series brings together 50 of the most talented singers to compete for a chance to form their own band without ever seeing each other. All they have to go on is musical compatibility, connection, chemistry and merit. What will happen when the bands finally meet and… looks, choreography, and style come into play?
The series comes from The Wall producer Remarkable Entertainment, which is part of Banijay UK.

With Katy Perry leaving American Idol as one of the judges, fans are making guesses at who will replace her. Many fans have already made a wish list with names like Jon Bon Jovi on them. However, there is a new guess and it is based on something a megastar has said this year.
Here is who some think might be joining American Idol next season.
Will Adele Join American Idol As New Judge?
A Reddit post was started with an embed from a social media post. In that post, someone claimed that Adele was considering joining American Idol as Katy Perry’s replacement. The reasoning given is that she wants to have a second baby and wants something more laid back (that still pays well) than her Vegas residency.

This led to many fans speculating that Adele could be the perfect replacement for Katy Perry.

Veteran unscripted producer Wendy Miller was attending a gathering for women over 40 in unscripted television who are unemployed when she had the idea. Though the get-together could easily have turned maudlin, one woman brought levity to the proceedings by telling a story about working on a past show that cracked up the whole room. Miller envisioned a storytelling event, akin to The Moth, where reality TV workers could share outrageous career tales to a paying audience, thus raising money for needy peers: “All of us are unemployed and have no money, but there are people who are way worse. What if we use this as an opportunity to raise money for someone who’s really in dire straits?” Miller pitched the group.
The ensuing “Hollywood Horror Happy Hour” (tagline: “We’re All Broke. Let’s Laugh About It!”), which took place May 21, was just one sign of the times in the nonfiction TV business.

With 25 seasons under its belt, The Voice has seen its fair share of coaching rotations, especially because multiple seasons of the singing competition show air per year. It took American Idol twice the amount of time to reach 20 seasons, but so far, those two singing competition shows haven’t overlapped in terms of judges and coaches. The original four figures to shape the show’s trajectory were country singer Blake Shelton, Maroon 5 front man Adam Levine, “Fighter” singer Christina Aguilera and “Forget You” singer CeeLo Green.
Other celebrities with music backgrounds have cycled through the four red spinning chairs since the show began in 2011. The singers who have judged have also covered a wide range of genres from pop to country to rap and more.
Season 26’s panel has been established as Reba McEntire, who has been with the show since Season 24, veteran coach Gwen Stefani and newcomers Snoop Dogg and Michael Bublé.

TV audiences tracked down “Tracker” in a big way this season. The freshman CBS drama, which stars Justin Hartley as a survivalist who helps law enforcement and others solve tough cases, was the 2023-24 TV season’s most-watched entertainment series. According to the Eye network, that’s the first time a first-year TV series was ranked as the No. 1 show since “Survivor” premiered as an instant phenomenon in 2000.
“Tracker” was helped, of course, by premiering in February behind Super Bowl Lviii — giving it a huge jump start. And this was an unusual, truncated TV season due to the Hollywood strikes, which meant limited episodic orders for most programs. Last year’s top-rated show, Paramount Network’s “Yellowstone,” hasn’t aired an original episode in more than a year — and yet still made the charts, but via repeats that aired this season on CBS.

American Idol ended Season 22 on a high note.
The long-running singing competition series bid farewell to judge Katy Perry during Sunday’s finale episode, with an audience of 5.64M tuning in, according to live + same-day data. That was an 8% increase over the week prior to reach a season high in total viewers.
The finale was up fairly significantly versus the Season 22 average, which was around 4.8M viewers per episode on Sunday nights and 4.1M for Monday nights.
It’s the best the series has done since the Season 21 finale, which aired in May of last year. But, this year’s finale was down about a million viewers compared to that episode. The season overall saw about a 500K average viewer decrease compared to Season 21.
Still, American Idol is doing quite well for ABC, as it continues to be one of the network’s most-watched shows. It has little to no unscripted competition on Sundays,...
