In the summer of 1982, Ronald Reagan was in the White House, “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial” led the box office, “Dallas” topped the Nielsen rankings and Joan Jett’s “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll” was No. 1 on the pop chart. The U.S. was suffering through the end of a recession but still embracing the “Morning in America” moment for pop culture. Amid this heady mix, the Milwaukee Brewers exploded, quite unexpectedly, as the hottest team in Major League Baseball.
The legacy of that almost-miracle season for the Brewers is revisited with great affection in a new documentary directed by Sean Hanish. “Just a Bit Outside: The Story of the 1982 Milwaukee Brewers.” The project from Cannonball Prods. was a labor of love for Wisconsin natives Hanish and Kelly Kahl, former CBS Entertainment president, who produced the pic with Paul Jaconi-Biery.

The existence of a sequel is hinged on, if not entirely then at least to a substantial extent, the success of its predecessor. Look at the Jurassic Park universe. Steven Spielberg helmed one on-screen adaptation in the ’90s and in the blink of an eye, it ended up spawning a whole franchise of dinosaurs.

But even with the cosmic success of a particular Spielberg classic, the movie has never been greenlit for a sequel, and under the esteemed filmmaker’s watch, it never will.
Why This Iconic Steven Spielberg Film Will Never Get A Sequel
It’s no secret that Steven Spielberg shares a strong emotional connection with many of his cinematic masterpieces. From Schindler’s List to E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, some of Hollywood’s biggest hits stem from the Oscar-winning filmmaker’s personal experiences. And it is precisely because...

Kino Lorber have picked up all rights in North America to Bruno Dumont’s sci-fi farce The Empire after its triumphant debut at the Berlin Film Festival last month, where it won the Silver Bear Jury Prize.
Anamaria Vartolomei, Camille Cottin, Lyna Khoudri, and Fabrice Luchini star in the French-language feature, which re-imagines the world of George Lucas’ Star Wars with its epic sci-fi battle of good vs. evil, relocating the action to a sleepy northern France town and filtering the story through the frankly bonkers mind of the director of Slack Bay, Li’l Quinquin and Coincoin and the Extra-Humans. There are plenty of VFX spaceships and lightsaber battles and only a few gratuitous sex scenes (this is a French film after all).
Kino Lorber is planning a theatrical release for L’Empire later this year 2024, followed by a home video, educational, and digital release across all major platforms.

Scott Rowe, a longtime communications executive for Warner Bros. TV Group, is exiting the studio after nearly 30 years.
Rowe’s post as senior VP of communications and domestic market has been eliminated as part of the broader restructuring and downsizing that has transformed the storied studio and its WarnerMedia parent company. The depth of the changes at Warner Bros., once Hollywood’s undisputed leader in film and TV production, have been jarring to entertainment industry veterans.
Rowe joined Warner Bros. in early 1994 after seven years with Fox, starting out as manager of publicity for the Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution syndication unit. He steadily rose through the ranks and added marketing duties in addition to PR and communications on behalf of various Wbtv units. Diamond Play Buttons -- an honor that YouTube bestows to channels who surpass 10 million subscribers -- hardly come a dime a dozen. But for the Velázquez family, they've becoming a strikingly commonplace prize.
The siblings -- including Karen (right), Rafael (center), and Lesslie (left) -- hail from Mexico City and operate a total of five YouTube channels, three of which have garnered Diamond Play Buttons. Accordingly, the Guinness World Records has just recognized the trio for having the most Diamond Buttons within a single family -- as of June 24.
Of their five channels, three count upwards of 10 million subscribers, including: flagship comedy hub Los Polinesios, secondary channel Extra Polinesios (15.5 million subscribers, 60 million monthly views), and lifestyle-leaning Musas.

Junket Prods. saw it coming. Nearly five years after Dish Network launched Sling TV, the service is adding Fox News Channel — one of the most popular U.S. cable channels — to one of its baseline packages.
Fox Corporation announced a deal with Dish to launch Fox News, the distinctly pro-Donald Trump cable newser, on Sling TV’s Sling Blue package, which now costs $30 per month for 47 channels after a price hike. In addition, Fox Business is available on Sling Blue News Extra, which costs an additional $5 per month and includes CNBC, BBC World News and A+E’s Law & Crime.
Sling TV also added MSNBC and CNN’s Hln to the standard Sling Blue lineup; previously MSNBC was in the News Extra add-on for Blue and Hln was in News Extra for both Orange and Blue. CNN has been available on Sling TV since launch, and it’s in both Sling Orange and Sling Blue lineups.

Amid some streamlining at Warner Bros.’ unscripted and alternative television division, Shed Media general manager Pamela Healy, Telepictures’ creative affairs exec vice president Stuart Krasnow and some development execs from each team are exiting, a source familiar with the matter has confirmed to Variety.
Potential back-office efficiencies are also being considered between both groups’ operations on a go forward basis. While Healy, Krasnow et al. will not be replaced, neither team is slated to shrink further at this point in time.
Deadline first reported the news. Shed Media, Telepictures and Warner Horizon Unscripted Television all fall under the Warner Bros. unscripted and alternative umbrella. Warner Horizon is not impacted.
Shed Media’s programs include “The Real Housewives of New York City” on Bravo, “Murder for Hire,” on Oxygen, “Who Do You Think You Are?” on TLC, “Huda Boss” on Facebook Watch and “Mexican Dynasties,” also on Bravo, the latter four...

Three years after he was fired by NBC’s “Today” show over the infamous “Access Hollywood” tape, Billy Bush is back in the game as the host and managing editor of the recently redesigned entertainment news show, “Extra.”
On Friday’s “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” Bush explained why he felt it was necessary for him to work behind-the-scenes after returning to TV, rather than just serving as on-camera talent.
“I get in at 6:45 — it’s the first meeting, that’s off camera,” he told DeGeneres. “And I took on that instead of just put on the nice clothes and the makeup and read the lines because, you know, you’re dealing with people’s lives. And I’m really sensitive now to what we say about people. And I don’t want to participate in pile-on culture, which is, you know, when someone’s down, there’s usually two sides to stories.

Sean Spicer could waltz away with a nice payday if he wins “Dancing With the Stars.”
According to multiple sources, contestants on the ABC competition series make $125,000 for the show’s rehearsal period and their first two weeks on the air. If they make it to week three and beyond, they begin to earn additional fees each week. Sources say that the maximum contestants can earn is $295,000. By comparison, Spicer was making just under $180,000 during his time with the Trump administration, per a White House report released in 2017.
Contestants on previous seasons could, according to reports at the time, make as much as $345,000, but potential earnings this season will fall short of that number. Of course, the potential benefits of being on “Dancing with the Stars” go beyond the fee earned from the production. Many have used their time on the show to jumpstart their careers and landed lucrative new positions.

Entertainment Tonight invented the showbiz newsmagazine genre, and 38 years later it remains the top-rated show of its type.
The explosion of media options this decade has caused viewership for shows like Et, Access and Extra — all of which have been around more than 20 years — to decline some (along with most of ad-supported programming).
All three shows are down substantially in viewers this decade, a decline similar to every series shown on broadcast television. The entertainment newsmagazines have had fairly stable audiences the past couple seasons, and Et ranks in the top 10 among all syndicated shows for 2018-19.

Bruno Tonioli‘s mind works in mysterious ways, but the “Dancing with the Stars” judge read our minds when “Extra” host and “Dancing” alum Mario Lopez asked him for his thoughts on Joe “Grocery Store Joe” Amabile.

That improbable showing last week left Tinashe a victim of the latest “shocking elimination” on the show. “I was very disappointed that Tinashe got kicked out,” Tonioli lamented. “If you don’t vote, it’s not going to happen. You have to really back these people up.”

Ask and ye shall receive. Carrie Ann Inaba and 59 percent of our readers want Bobby Bones to chill the eff out with his shenanigans on “Dancing with the Stars,” and he promises he’ll be more low-key Week 3 for Most Memorable Year Night.
“I think it’s going to be pretty toned down next week. I think I have a pretty good story to tell,” Bones told “Extra.” “Hopefully I can inspire some people. That’s the goal next week. They asked for ‘toned down,’ but they were going to get it anyway because I plan to really show a lot of my heart next week.”

Streisand, who played the same role as the "Million Reasons" singer in the 1976 remake of the movie, was rather impressed with her fellow Hollywood companion. "Of course I've seen it," she said. "I loved it. I think it is wonderful. She is wonderful. Bradley told me he spent months with her working to see her real self."
Barbra also touched on her friendship with Lady Gaga. "I call her Stefani," she said. "I can't call her Lady Gaga, but I understand why she calls herself Lady Gaga. I understand that person. I think it is great . . . they are going to have a big hit." Although there have been multiple amazing remakes of A Star Is Born, we're pretty...
