- 2001 re-release of the English language includes a new English dub script and voice cast.
- The version that aired on Toonami in 2013 digitally removed the nudity from the rape scene, as well as changing a background graffiti that read "fuck you" to "buck you".
- Starting with the 2001 DVD the 5.1 remix of the original Japanese language version contained several alterations to the music throughout and replaced some of the sound effects. The 2009 Hypersonic remix created for the first Blu-ray release is taken from the same 2001 remix except contains even more changes to the music and sound effects. However, only the original 2009 Blu-ray from Bandai Visual contains the original 1988 stereo mix as a secondary option. All of the re-releases from Funmation only include the Hypersonic remix created back in 2009.
- The original 1990 South Korea release is heavily cut and is rated 'All' but was released in 2005 uncut with a 15 rating.
- The original Singapore release is cut and is rated PG but was later released with a NC-16 rating.
- The Hong Kong 4K release features a new Chinese dub.
- The Cantonese dub for Hong Kong features the ending theme song "Ya Ji La" and is performed by Tai Chi.
- The 2001 version also includes a restoration credits roll. The credits are set to the music at the mall where the terrorist bombing occurs.
- Due to complaints about no 5.1 version on the special edition DVD, Pioneer remixed the film into a DTS 5.1 soundtrack and released it as a separate movie-only DVD.
- In Orion's "Special Subtitled Edition" Kei's name is changed to Kay and Kai's name is changed to Key.
