Marvel Studios didn't bring any new announcements to D23 Brazil, but Kevin Feige was still kind enough to share a couple of big surprises with fans at home, including action-packed new trailers for Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts*.

For Captain America: Brave New World, the undeniable highlight is a new shot of Harrison Ford as Red Hulk. The legendary actor has graced the screen in all manner of iconic roles over the years, and it's fair to say we never expected to see the Indiana Jones and Star Wars icon quite like this.

Thunderbolts stars Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan and David Harbour are getting in on all the action in a special look at Marvel‘s upcoming film.

On Saturday, Harbour attended the Brazil D23 fan event to present the extended trailer (below) for the film, which follows a group of supervillains recruited to go on missions for the government. “Everyone here has done bad things. Shadow ops, contract kills,” Pugh says in the trailer at one point.

The team of villains and antiheroes includes Pugh, who reprises her Black Widow role of Yelena Belova, Harbour as Red Guardian, Stan as the Winter Soldier, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Wyatt Russell as John Walker/U.S. Agent and Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. Just a few moments ago at the first-ever Brazil D23 fan event, Marvel Studios debuted a brand-new, special look for Thunderbolts*. David Harbour, who plays Red Guardian in the movie, was on hand to debut the new extended trailer which you can watch below.

It’s time to update your awards predictions at Gold Derby, because a major TV contender has just announced its strategy for the upcoming 2025 kudos. “Agatha All Along,” Disney Plus’ spin-off of “WandaVision” starring Kathryn Hahn as a centuries-old, sassy witch, will submit in the comedy categories at the Golden Globes, SAG Awards, and next year’s Emmys, per our sister site Variety. Kicking off on February 4th, 2025, the extensive outing consists of more than 80 arena shows across the US, Canada, the UK, Europe, New Zealand, and Australia. Lil Yachty and Paris Texas will provide support for the duration of the tour.

The “Queer” and “Challengers” filmmaker is in final negotiations to sign on for an “American Psycho” adaptation at Lionsgate, Deadline reports.

Guadagnino’s take is described as a new adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’ 1991 novel, about a Wall Street investment banker who moonlights as a serial killer. Scott Z. Burns (“The Report”) is writing the script. The novel was previously adapted into a cult classic 2000 film starring Christian Bale and directed by Mary Harron. The film was one of Lionsgate’s earliest and helped put the studio on the map and build its reputation as a haven for films deemed too controversial for the major studios.

While Marvel Studios' Thunderbolts* will assemble a mixture of heroes and villains, the movie isn't exactly following the comic books. In those, Baron Zemo assembles the Masters of Evil to pose as heroes, only for his teammates to eventually decide they really do want to do some good.

As of now, there's nothing to suggest Daniel Brühl will make an appearance as Zemo after last being shown behind bars in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. 

However, given his history with Wakanda and tactical brilliance, it's easy enough to imagine the various ways Valentina Allegra de Fontaine might be in cahoots with the Captain America: Civil War villain (which would make for one heck of a twist in this movie).

Exclusive: Fauda and Gladiator II star Lior Raz is set along with Havana Rose Liu, Jean Reno, and 2x Emmy nominee Tovah Feldshuh for Daniel Roher’s upcoming crime thriller Tuner from Black Bear.

Rachel Sennott didn’t get into the premier sketch comedy group during her tenure at NYU. Now she’s playing one of the architects of the world’s most famous sketch comedy show in Jason Reitman’s Saturday Night. Co-written by the latter and Gil Kenan, the biographical comedy-drama chronicles the messy 90-minute period before the first episode of Saturday Night Live on Oct. 11, 1975. Sennott portrays writer Rosie Shuster, who’s also the first wife of SNL creator Lorne Michaels (Gabriel Labelle). And much like their ambitious attempt to shake up NBC’s Saturday night programming, their marriage, as depicted in the film, is in a similarly fragile, yet oddly collaborative, state.

In contrast with a lot of her castmates, Sennott didn’t have a great deal of existing material to reference during prep, but she did have the ultimate resource one phone call away.

When Marvel Studios was looking to cast Yelena Belova for 2021's Black Widow, it quickly became clear that they wanted a star every bit as talented as Scarlett Johansson.

Florence Pugh and Saoirse Ronan were both on Kevin Feige's wishlist, with the role ultimately going to the former. Ronan is believed to have turned down the movie and was asked about that during a recent interview with Josh Horowitz.

Unlike live-action shows, animated projects allow production to gather up a large, impressive cast. In the case of Chris Rock’s animated comedy, the list of celebrities who lend their voices to the characters is a long one. We shared the list with you last week, which includes Ayo Edebiri, Busta Rhymes, Nicole Byer, Natasha Rothwell, and others.

Marvel Studios recently released the first trailer for Thunderbolts* - you can read our breakdown here - but an official project profile for the movie shared by Disney reveals two unexpected casting additions.

The first is Chris Bauer, a prolific actor who has delivered memorable turns in Brooklyn Nine-Nine, For All Mankind, and Heels among many other projects. There's no word on who he's playing but we'd bet on it being a villain given what a great antagonist he's made in previous roles.

The bigger surprise is the addition of Wendell Pierce; the actor, who has more critically acclaimed performances to his name than we have room to list here, is perhaps known best for his work in The Wire.

“Inside Out 2” is continuing to break records even after leaving theaters.

The Pixar film — which became the highest-grossing animated movie of all time this year — also debuted as the top streaming premiere for 2024 on Disney+. It hit the streamer on Sept. 25 and has amassed 30.5 million views worldwide in its first five days.

The sequel is the No. 1 theatrical premiere on Disney+ since 2021’s “Encanto” and the biggest film premiere of all time for the streamer in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America.

Back in July, “Inside Out 2” passed 2019’s “Frozen II” and its previous record-holding $1.45 billion global run. It also managed to beat out last year’s highest-grossing film “Barbie,” which pulled in $1.44 billion. The film blew by high expectations when it earned $154 million in its opening weekend and crossed the billion-dollar threshold in a mere 19 days.

Hollywood icon Julia Roberts will receive an honorary award at the 50th César Awards ceremony on February 28 in Paris. The César Academy, France’s equivalent to the Academy Awards, chose Roberts to honor at their milestone event.

Over the past three decades, Roberts has captivated audiences worldwide with her diverse acting roles. Her breakthrough performance in 1990’s “Pretty Woman” launched her to international stardom. Since then, Roberts has demonstrated her versatility through parts in romantic comedies such as “My Best Friend’s Wedding” and “Notting Hill.” She has also given powerful dramatic performances, such as in “The Pelican Brief” and “Erin Brockovich.” Roberts won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her leading role in “Erin Brockovich.”

The César Academy recognized Roberts’ influence extends beyond just her on-screen work. She is considered not only a renowned movie star but also a global cultural icon. Roberts has worked with many acclaimed directors throughout her career.

Julia Roberts will receive an honorary tribute at the milestone 50th edition of the César Awards, France’s equivalent to the Oscars. The ceremony will take place on Feb. 28 at the Olympia Theater in Paris.

“Julia Roberts fascinates, she is a source of inspiration and an icon of world cinema,” said the César academy in a statement. “Julia Roberts is not just a movie star, she’s also an icon of popular culture, and her influence extends far beyond her performances.”
