- Actor
Austin Jansma is an American cinematographer, camera operator, and actor who grew up all over California. He was born in Tacoma, Washington to parents Ken and Sherri Jansma. He has been in the entertainment industry since 2015.
There is something incredible about the way stunning visuals can instantly create a compelling story. As a Cinematographer, Austin Jansma loves being the one to help build those captivating moments. As someone who started out as an actor, he knows what it is like to be on both sides of the lens. What he loves about his work now behind the camera is being able to collaborate as a team on set to put together all of the pieces that make a great project. While he takes his work seriously, Austin also loves to have a good time on the job. "There is nothing like a positive atmosphere to get the best work out of everyone involved." From music videos to commercials, sketch comedy, and short films, he has taken part in some really great projects. Though Austin tends to lean on the dark and moody aesthetic, he enjoys challenging himself and tries to find new techniques and angles to build a scene that locks in the audience to the story. He could talk all day about how different camera movements, lens choices, and lighting setups can create a range of emotions.
His acting roots were cultivated early by his father, Ken Jansma. Ken saw that when Austin watched movies, he became completely immersed in that world, no matter what movie they watched. Austin acted as if he was one of the characters in that world. Seeing that, Ken brought Austin with him to his acting classes in L.A. during the time they lived in Southern California. Ken always encouraged Austin to become an actor, though Austin would not be seriously interested in acting until fall 2014 after he made a deal with his father. The deal was that Austin had to take an acting class and give it 100%. If he put his all into it and still did not like it, Ken would stop trying to push Austin into an acting career. That fall, Austin took an acting class at Studio 24 in Folsom, CA with Cody Dorkin. He fell in love with it and he has not looked back (much to his father's satisfaction). Since then, Austin has played a wide range of characters for film and TV; from an elemental Airbender to a self-righteous druggie. In 2018 he signed with his agent Tabitha Kit with Kit International Talent.
Austin has worked on projects for both small and large productions. He has met some wonderfully talented people along his journey so far and is always looking forward to meeting more.
