In the manner of most celebrity podcasts, Ted Danson’s conversation with Quinta Brunson on this week’s Where Everybody Knows Your Name quickly devolved into a fawning, mutual lovefest. But despite Danson’s gushing praise for all things comedy and Abbott Elementary, he managed to twist Brunson’s love for Shelley Long into a backhanded slap of his old Cheers co-star.
Brunson explained that her family was made up of Cheers superfans. She remembered watching as a young kid, but really appreciating its craft during reruns when she was a teen. More than most TV comedies, Cheers “felt like a play. Everyone was very grounded,” she told Danson. “I remember thinking that Diane was so grounded. I almost felt like she wasn’t acting.”
That got a laugh from Danson. “I felt the same way being with her sometimes.”
Oof. The comment flew past Brunson but it jibes with...

Jimmy Kimmel is a busy man. He hosts his own talk show, he's hosted a handful of Oscars shows over the last decade, and in 2022, he hosted the Emmy Awards. The comedian did a fine job, but his antics rubbed viewers the wrong way when Quinta Brunson won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series.
Instead of clearing the stage and letting Brunson have her moment, Kimmel decided to lay on the stage while she gave her speech. It was intended to garner laughter from the audience, but it wound up garnering lots of criticism online. Many believed that Kimmel stole the spotlight from Brunson, and that he should have let her enjoy her first Emmy win.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Abbott Elementary Season 4, Episode 4, “Costume Contest.”] Abbott Elementary put the spotlight on a TV icon in its latest Halloween episode, “Costume Contest” as Jacob (Chris Perfetti) channeled longtime Wheel of Fortune host Pat Sajak in his costume. The pick comes with its fair share of critiques from coworkers especially as they take a small dig at Sajak’s politics but ultimately recognize him for the TV icon he is. In the opening scenes of the episode, Janine (Quinta Brunson) considers Jacob’s choice, acknowledging that she recognizes her coworker’s costume as Sajak, “Although interesting choice for you, given his politics,” she noted. Wheel of Fortune “Well, I’ve taken a step back from Elon Musk’s internet, and now it sometimes takes me weeks to find these things out,” Jacob started to say in response to the hint at Sajak’s conservative views. “So, you know, I figured if...

Though Abbott Elementary may be all about a “work family,” the series’ showrunner and leading lady Quinta Brunson is apparently having second thoughts about allowing her real-life family to watch the show’s two upcoming crossover episodes with It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
In what’s become yet another drip in the slowest leak known to man, Brunson hinted at what fans — including her mother — can expect during the beloved Pennsylvania-based series’ collab. “Yeah, my mom’s not going to be allowed to watch that,” she told People while attending the Ema Awards Gala on Sunday.
Although Brunson remained tight-lipped on what schemes, plots and/or scams she gets into with the overlords of Paddy’s Pub — ones her mother shall never witness if the actress/producer/BuzzFeed alum has her way — she’s far from the only actor to hint that the upcoming crossover gets, well, real weird with it.

The most powerful sitcom crossover in the history of Pennsylvania is officially a double feature.
Back at the beginning of this month, Rob McElhenney sent the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia fandom into a frenzy when he posted on-set photos from behind the scenes at an Abbott Elementary production, confirming that, eight months after the viral Glaswegian Willy Wonka nightmare got him and Quinta Brunson talking, a crossover between the two hometown sitcoms is finally in the works. Many of those same fans were dismayed to learn that the planned collaboration would happen on Abbott Elementary’s home court, where the show’s comparatively clean and upbeat tone (coupled with ABC’s censors) would limit the Always Sunny cast’s aptitude to be equal parts appalling and hilarious.
Then, on Friday, Variety blessed us with an exclusive scoop that opens the door for profane comedy played off of the already put-upon Willard R.

The highly-anticipated crossover between ABC’s “Abbott Elementary” and FX’s “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” just got bigger. While it was already revealed that the “Sunny” characters will show up on “Abbott” this season, Variety has confirmed that, as part of a two-episode event, the “Abbott” teachers will also show up on “Sunny” to hang with the Gang at Paddy’s Pub.
Earlier this month, “Abbott” creator and star Quinta Brunson and “Sunny” star/co-creator Rob McElhenney revealed that the two shows would join comedic forces for a very special episode of “Abbott” (which Brunson had previously hinted at San Diego Comic-Con). The mash-up made sense, given that both shows are set in Philadelphia, plus they both air on Disney-owned networks. (“Abbott” is produced by Warner Bros. TV.)

Exclusive: Matthew Law (Star Wars: Ahsoka) has joined the recurring cast of ABC’s Abbott Elementary for Season 4, currently airing weekly on Wednesday nights. He will debut as O’Shon, the school district It rep, in tonight’s episode titled “Class Pet.”
Deadline has a teaser of the episode above and first look-photos of Law as O’Shon below. Tonight, Janine (Quinta Brunson) gets a budget for class pets, but Melissa (Lisa Ann Walter) resists taking on the added work and responsibility for her room’s guinea pig. An It rep from the school district arrives to set up new computers.
These are likely the new computers promised to the Abbott teachers by the attorney for that fancy new golf course that’s being built nearby. In the Season 4 premiere, the teachers were quite irritated by the construction traffic, as well as the impending gentrification from the addition to the neighborhood.

Lisa Ann Walter, or teacher Melissa Schemmenti to Abbott Elementary fans, had one request for the ABC mockumentary’s It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia crossover episode. The 61-year-old wanted scenes with a certain actor from the comedy series. But it wasn’t Charlie Day, Danny DeVito, or Rob McElhenney.
Walter asked for scenes with Kaitlin Olson in the ‘Abbott Elementary’ and ‘It’s Always Sunny’ crossover
At Warner Bros. “I really was excited about acting with Dee, with Kaitlin Olson,” Walter said (via Variety). “I met her at some of the events that we have to go do.

The casts of Fxx‘s It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and ABC‘s Abbott Elementary fully united for the first time in a photo shared by It’s Always Sunny star and creator Rob McElhenney from the set of the upcoming crossover.
“School’s out y’all,” he wrote on Instagram with the photo that featured his co-stars, wife Kaitlin Olson, Danny DeVito, Glenn Howerton and Charlie Day, as well as Abbott Elementary stars Janelle James, Lisa Ann Walter, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Chris Perfetti, Tyler James Williams and creator Quinta Brunson.
With Season 4 of Abbott largely focused on gentrification in the school’s Philly neighborhood, and Season 17 of It’s Always Sunny premiering in 2025, the plot details of the crossover are still unknown.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Abbott Elementary Season 4, Episode 2, “Ringworm.”] Abbott Elementary faced an unexpected outbreak in Season 4’s latest installment, revealingly titled, “Ringworm,” as the fungus passed from student to student, eventually making its way to the staff. No character was more panicked by the possibility of catching it than Gregory (Tyler James Williams), who suffers from an extreme aversion to germs and illness, so much so he was willing to forgo a movie night date with his girlfriend and colleague Janine (Quinta Brunson) to avoid catching ringworm. Donning a long-sleeve turtleneck, overalls, gloves, and wielding a spray bottle of sanitizer, Gregory wasn’t taking any chances of getting sick. Showcasing that side of Gregory in such an extreme light was also a way for the show to explore some of the behaviors people have experienced since Covid initially broke out. “It was not only fun, it was kind of cathartic,” Williams tells TV Insider.

At least one person in Philadelphia wants to hear what Sweet Dee has to say.

At Warner Bros. Television Group’s Fall TV Season Celebration, “Abbott Elemntary” star Lisa Ann Walter expressed her excitement over the upcoming crossover episode with “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.”
The two hit comedies take place in the City of Brotherly Love and have already begun filming together.
“I’ve been a long time fan of that show,” Walter said. “The work that they’ve done on our ‘Abbott’ set has been hilarious.”
She added that the cast of “It’s Always Sunny,” specifically Charlie Day, is much more improvisational in nature than the “Abbott” crew.
“I really was excited about acting with Dee, with Kaitlin Olson,” Walter said. “I met her at some of the events that we have to go do…I just really liked her a lot. I said to Quinta, ‘Can I do my scenes with her? Write me scenes with her.’”

After the runaway success of Netflix and Tim Burton’s Addams Family stand-alone series Wednesday starring Jenna Ortega, the streamer renewed it for second season in January 2023. That decision came less than three months after the eight-episode Season 1 premiered, eventually becoming the most-watched original series ever on the streamer ever with more than 252 million views to date, far surpassing Stranger Things‘ Season 4, Dahmer and Season 1 of Bridgerton on the all-time list.
Season 1 ending up scoring 12 Emmy nominations, including for Ortega in Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, becoming just the third Latina to ever be nominated in a leading actress category. The series won four Emmys, though Ortega lost out to Abbott Elementary‘s Quinta Brunson on Emmy night.

As if a brand new season of “Abbott Elementary” wasn’t enough to get people excited, creator and star Quinta Brunson is continuing to expand the show’s appeal with a television tradition that has become rarer and rarer as time goes on: A crossover episode. And what better show to intermingle with than fellow Pa series, “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.” Announcing via pictures posted to X, formerly known as Twitter, it was revealed last week that the two Disney-owned shows (“Sunny” on FX and “Abbott” on ABC) would crossover this season, with Charlie Day, Rob McElhenney, and Danny DeVito being featured alongside Brunson, Tyler James Williams, and William Stanford Davis outside the “Abbott” school set. School is finally back in session! ABC’s Emmy-winning comedy “Abbott Elementary” returned for its fourth season this week, and even though we’re getting a full 22 episodes once more, the show thankfully didn’t wait too long to confirm the state of TV’s cutest union. In the premiere, which is now streaming on Hulu, Janine (Quinta Brunson) and Gregory’s (Tyler James Williams) relationship takes center stage, and while it’s clear the two still have some things to figure out, the change in their romantic status leads Ava (Janelle James) to call in a district Hr rep to ensure that everything is above board. Meanwhile, the construction of a nearby golf course leads to some interesting changes for the school and our favorite teachers. As charming and funny as ever, “Abbott Elementary” is the awards contender to watch this weekend.

Note: This story contains spoilers from the “Abbott Elementary” Season 4 premiere.
After the “will they, won’t they” between Janine (Quinta Brunson) and Gregory (Tyler James Williams) extended through “Abbott Elementary’s” first three seasons, Season 4 will see the pair as a “real, solid couple,” per the show’s EPs.
“We spent as long as humanly possible getting them together without annoying people,” EP and coshowrunner Patrick Schumacker told TheWrap, joking that they “probably still annoyed a couple of people,” including his mom. “But now that they are together, they’re together. There’s not a credible threat or anything to their relationship. We want to spend time with them as a real, solid couple.”
Still, that doesn’t mean their growing relationship will be the focus on Season 4, with coshowrunner and EP Justin Halpern saying, “we still don’t ever want to make this ‘the Gregory and Janine show.
