Whose house? That’s right, “Poppa’s House” is heading to TV screens, bringing you another comedy series led by the iconic Wayans family.
Between the “In Living Color,” the “Scary Movie” franchise and more, there’s no doubt that the Wayans family knows funny, which is why they’re tackling the sitcom arena once again with the father-son series. And instead of naming a character Junior, like in “My Wife and Kids,” Damon Wayans has enlisted his very own son and his namesake Damon Wayans Jr. to kick it with him as his co-lead
With both Damons on-camera and the Wayans — including Kim, Shawn and Michael Wayans — working the writers room, fans can anticipate a hilarious and family-oriented show for everyone of all ages.

CBS has just four timeslots allocated to comedy series. Only one is occupied by a brand new show, Poppa's House (Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage is a new show but is populated by many familiar characters). It's become increasingly difficult for new shows to get noticed, and most are cancelled after one season. Will Poppa's House be one of the lucky ones? Will Poppa's House be cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned.

Note: The following story contains spoilers from the “Poppa’s House” series premiere.
There’s no getting around the fact that the Wayans family is one of the most hardworking in Hollywood. But what may be more surprising is the level of industry honesty that’s baked into Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr.’s upcoming CBS sitcom, “Poppa’s House.”
It’s the pilot of “Poppa’s House” that includes a lesson that has become vital to the elder Wayans’ life. The first episode revolves around Damon (Wayans Jr.) quitting his stable but soul-crushing job to pursue his dream as a director. During the episode’s emotional crux, Poppa (Wayans) sits his son down and has a frank heart-to-heart, telling him that he has to take care of his family first. Then he can pursue his dreams. That was inspired by a life lesson Wayans learned the hard way.

In the series premiere of CBS’ Poppa’s House, Damon Wayans’ titular dad and deejay already has two major rivalries to contend with. Nothing a rap battle or two can’t fix.
In the episode’s first moments, we meet Poppa and his grown son Junior (Damon Wayans Jr.), the latter of whom desperately wants to quit his job selling his father-in-law’s foam rollers to pursue a career in directing. Not only did J.J. (played by Geoffrey Owens) give Junior the gig, but he also loaned him the cash to buy his family’s house. Junior not only owes him,...

Back before social media became irrationally obsessed with nepo babies, we used to accept that comedy could be a family business to at least some degree, and that if your TV show or movie featured one person named “Wayans” in the cast, there were probably 10 or 15 other people with that last name working behind the scenes in various capacities.
If you were raised on In Living Color, watching the Wayans torch get passed from Keenan Ivory Wayans to siblings Damon, Kim, Shawn, Marlon and their additional brothers, sisters, children, aunts, uncles and cousins over three decades has been the source of much amusement and a fair amount of talent.
Though the Damons Wayans, Jr. and Sr., have played father and son before on ABC’s beloved Happy Endings, the new CBS sitcom Poppa’s House is their most extended starring vehicle in this capacity. The series also features Kim as director-producer,...

CBS’ upcoming Poppa’s House (which premieres Monday, Oct. 21 at 8:30/7:30c) explores the relationship between a curmudgeonly disc jockey (Damon Wayans) and his adult son Junior (Damon Wayans Jr.) who he still finds himself occasionally parenting. Sitcoms are back! Well, not really. But NBC and CBS are partying like it’s 1994 this fall and rolling out a pair of old-fashioned situation comedies that would’ve fit right in on a primetime schedule three decades ago: NBC’s Happy’s Place (premiering Friday at 8/7c), starring Reba McEntire; and CBS’ Poppa’s House (premiering Monday at 8:30 pm), pairing up Damon Wayans with his son Damon Wayans Jr. Both shows feature seasoned sitcom veterans cracking jokes in multi-cam yukfests… but unfortunately, both seem to be sorely lacking in the laughs department.

The ties that bind bring father-son funnymen Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr. together for Poppa’s House, a sitcom that’s legitimately close to home. “I’m with him all the time, sans the entertainment aspect, so we get along like brothers — unless I’m in trouble,” laughs the younger Wayans. The two have worked together before — Senior guest starred on Junior’s Happy Endings and Happy Together, while Junior was a writer and guest star on dad’s My Wife and Kids — but this is the first time they have headlined a series together. “We just thought this was the perfect story to put our talents in,” continues Wayans Jr. of the multi-camera comedy, in which the elder Wayans stars as “Poppa,” a longtime, no-holds-barred radio host living next door to his aspiring-director son Damon (Wayans Jr.), daughter-in-law Nina and their two kids. CBS has ordered three new series from this year’s crop of pilots.
The network has handed series orders to Matlock, starring Kathy Bates; The Good Wife spinoff Elsbeth; and the Wayans family comedy, which now is known as Poppa’s House.

The trio will air during the 2023-24 season and will be joined by Tracker, starring Justin Hartley, which formerly was known as The Never Game and was ordered to series in December.
CBS isn’t specifying episode orders, particularly given the current writers strike, but given that all three come from its own studio, the network can be flexible.
It comes after CBS made some space for new titles after axing East New York and True Lies on Tuesday, though it reversed its decision to cancel S.W.A.T., instead bringing the drama back for a seventh and final season.

Per the official logline, “Legendary talk radio host and happily divorced ‘Poppa’ (Wayans) has his point of view challenged at work when a new female co-host (Atkins) is hired, and at home where he finds himself still parenting his adult son (Wayans Jr.), a brilliant dreamer who is trying to pursue his passion while being a responsible father and husband.”
Atkins character is named Dr. Ivy Reed. She is further described as “intelligent, savvy, and bold” and hosts the radio show “Ask Dr. Reed,” where she gives “helpful advice to listeners with a modern approach on life” before she is brought in as Poppa’s new co-host.

Peacock is getting into the holiday spirit with The Housewives of the North Pole, a new original movie starring Kyle Richards (The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills) and Betsy Brandt (Breaking Bad).
The highly-anticipated flick is set to launch on December 9 on the streaming service, and it looks like a lot of fun!
"The Christmas Queens of North Pole, Vermont, Trish (Kyle Richards) and Diana (Betsy Brandt), have won the Best Holiday House decorating competition every year for the past nine years," reads the intriguing synopsis.
"But days before Christmas, a friendship-ending argument sparks a town-wide feud and draws the attention of a national magazine writer hoping to make a name for herself with her scintillating exposé."
It is a compelling hook and somewhat interesting to have Richards move from one of the most successful reality shows to a movie with a similar title.

It might’ve been a Tuesday night in Hollywood, but the “Boomerang” cast, crew and exec. producer Lena Waithe were ready to celebrate “Waithe Wednesdays” at the Bet drama’s second season premiere.
“It’s a beautiful time, you know,” Waithe told Variety at the event’s green carpet, speaking to press for the third time in just over a week, after the events celebrating her role on HBO’s “Westworld” and her new Bet series “Twenties,” which debuted on the network March 4 with nearly two million viewers tuning in.
Speaking of “Twenties’” impressive bow, Waithe said, “To me, what the 2 million viewers meant was that society really showed us that they’re ready. They’re ready to step into this new chapter where intersectionality is not, you know, abnormal, but it is the norm. And I really felt that love and that support.”

Halle Berry wasn’t immediately sold on the idea of a “Boomerang” reboot.
The 1992 romantic comedy, which starred Berry, Eddie Murphy, and Robin Givens, told the tale of cocky ad executive and insatiable ladies’ man Marcus (Murphy) who meets his match in his new boss Jacqueline (Givens) — an exec who treats him the same way he has treated his conquests around the city. Berry played Jacqueline’s quiet assistant Angela, who he eventually falls in love with. It was a role that launched her career.
So, when “Boomerang” TV series creator Lena Waithe approached the Oscar winner with the idea, she was hesitant at first. Waithe’s pitch was so good, though, that Berry ended up being the co-executive producer of the project.
“She came to me and she said, ‘Hal, I really want to redo “Boomerang” and I was like, no,” Berry told the audience with a laugh as...

Eddie Murphy’s 1992 romantic comedy “Boomerang” begat Bet’s new sequel series, which doesn’t share its predecessor’s outrageous brand of humor. Instead, the new “Boomerang” is the epitome of Millennial cool — stylish and ambitious, but not willing to be defined in any traditional way.
In the original film, womanizing ad exec Marcus Graham (Eddie Murphy) has the tables turned on him by his co-worker Jacqueline (Robin Givens), who then becomes his superior. Eventually, he falls for the talented artist Angela (Halle Berry). At the time, the film was a revelation of representation — depicting black excellence in a hilarious, heightened environment and boasting a killer supporting cast, including Martin Lawrence, David Alan Grier, Grace Jones, John Witherspoon, Eartha Kitt, and Chris Rock.

Fans of the 1992 romantic comedy “Boomerang” who are looking to see the original film’s cast appear on Bet’s upcoming sequel series shouldn’t hold their breath.
Well, no, you might see executive producer Halle Berry reprising her role. But as far as everyone else goes? We’ll have to wait and see, because Berry hasn’t asked her former co-stars to appear on Lena Waithe’s updated take on “Boomerang.”
“You might see me at some point,” Berry told reporters during the Television Critics Association press tour Monday, with a little laugh.

Lena Waithe has praised Viacom-owned Bet for speaking the same language as her on the half-hour comedy Boomerang. Waithe and Halle Berry are exec producing the remake of the 1992 movie, in which Berry starred alongside Eddie Murphy. They are joined on the team by by Dime Davis and Ben Cory Jones, who is showrunner on the series from Paramount Television and Bet Networks.
“Most of the shows I do are being pushed through a white filter. The most exciting thing about Bet and Paramount is that we speak the same language,” Waithe said Monday at TCA. “There is no, ‘Well can you have more joy in that moment of black pain’ – I don’t have to do that. That’s no shade at other partners I work for but the best thing is working with people who look like me and trust me. Black and honest as hell.”

The 1992 romantic comedy Boomerang was the last big hit of Eddie Murphy’s remarkable 10-year run as one of the world’s biggest movie stars. In it, Murphy plays Marcus Graham, a commitment-phobic ad executive with impossibly high standards for his conquests (he rejects one gorgeous woman because her feet have bunions), who falls into a love triangle with the similarly ruthless Jacqueline (Robin Givens) and the sweet Angela (Halle Berry). The film isn’t one of the best of that period for Murphy. But it was one of the...
