Spoiler alert: The following article contains spoilers for “That ’90s Show” Season 1.
While all major players from “That ’70s Show” reunite in some form or another on Netflix’s spinoff series, “That ’90s Show,” there is one notable omission — that of Danny Masterson’s Hyde (first name Steven), the original Fox sitcom’s resident troublemaker and burnout.
The sequel series follows a new cast of basement dwellers, much to the chagrin of Red (Kurtwood Smith) and delight of Kitty (Debra Jo Rupp). “That ’90s Show” centers on Leia Forman — daughter to Eric and Donna — as she stays with her grandparents in Point Place during the summer. Additionally, Mila Kunis’ Jackie and Ashton Kutcher’s Kelso make guest appearances in the first episode, ahead of their on-and-off-again characters’ second remarriage. Fez (Wilmer Valderrama) also shows up, with a new romantic arc on the show and a thriving hair salon business. Donna’s father,...

If you needed a reason to tune into “That ‘90s Show,” the upcoming Netflix series that serves as a spin-off/sequel to “That ‘70s Show,” how about the fact that most of the original cast will return in the new series?
That’s right! As you can see in the trailer (watch above) Topher Grace, Mila Kunis, Ashton Kutcher, Laura Prepon and Wilmer Valderrama will appear as special guests in “That ‘90s Show.” Groovy. Or radical. Or whatever they said in the ‘90s.
The new series follows Leia Forman (Callie Haverda) who goes to stay with her grandparents, Red (Kurtwood Smith) and Kitty (Debra Jo Rupp), both returning favorites from the original series. Among the weirdos hanging out with Leia in her grandparents basement are Gwen (Ashley Aufderheide), Nate (Maxwell Donovan), Ozzie (Reyn Doi), Nikki (Sam Morelos) and Jay Kelso (Mace Coronel). Netflix’s “That ’90s Show” has premiered its first teaser trailer, taking audiences back to the beloved basement circle with a new gang of characters and featuring well-recognized motifs like its predecessor’s signature guitar riff-heavy theme track, town’s seedy water tower (with the weed leaf still poorly painted on it) and Red Forman’s (Kurtwood Smith) penchant to say he’s going to put foots in people’s asses. The spinoff to “That ’70s Show” will premiere Jan. 19 with 10 22-minute episodes.
The show’s logline is as follows:

Hello Wisconsin! “That ’90s Show,” the sequel series to popular Fox sitcom “That ’70s Show,” will premiere on Netflix January 19, the streamer announced Tuesday.
The original “That ’70s Show,” which ran from 1998 to 2006, revolved around a group of six teenagers living in Point Place, Wisconsin during the late ’70s. The sequel series focuses on Leia (Callie Haverda), the daughter of original series leads Eric (Topher Grace) and Donna (Laura Prepon), who decides to spend the summer of 1995 in Point Place with her grandparents, Red (Kurtwood Smith) and Kitty (Debra Jo Rupp) from the original series. When “Harley Quinn” writer and producer Patrick Schumacker and the show’s writing team decided to explore a romantic relationship between the title character and Poison Ivy, it was actually something that the comics had already explored. “Historically, Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy have had a romantic partnership along with being partners in literal crime,” Schumacker tells Gold Derby in our Meet the Experts: Television Animation panel (watch the exclusive video interview above). The team decided to go down that road in the second season after establishing Harley’s criminal journey in season one and focus on Ivy’s conflicting desires between predictability and love. “From early stages in season two, we started to seed in that she had these feelings for Poison Ivy and Ivy had these feelings for Harley, all the while complicated by Ivy’s heteronormative relationship with Kite Man.”

Damon Lindelof and Hart Hanson are the latest to post their letters joining a mass of other top industry names including Steven DeKnight, Alexi Hawley, Tim Doyle and Chrissy Pietrosh. Most are very cordial to their agents but not the wire creator David Simon who has been outspoken.
Lindelof, who is currently working on the forthcoming Watchmen adaptation for HBO, posted his letter to CAA on Instagram. My agents signed me in 1999,” he wrote. “When no one else believed in me, they did. For that, I will be forever grateful. Twenty years later, the business has radically transformed… as such, it is time to remember and reinstate the principle upon which “representation” is based. My agents have become my friends… I am...

For those who were hoping for a miracle bargaining session between the WGA and Ata this afternoon that would break the stalemate between the two sides over the new Agency Code of Conduct before the midnight deadline, there was no miracle, and there was not much of a bargaining session either.
I hear that, right off the bat, the leaders of the WGA negotiating committee told the agency representatives that they were rejecting Ata’s latest proposal, introduced yesterday, which included the agencies sharing a percentage of their packaging fees with the writers. The WGA did not offer a counter proposal.
The sit-down was well attended on both sides by the top negotiators as well WGA and Ata’s legal teams. I hear that included WGA West President David A.

There was no respite for the two sides in the WGA-Ata dispute to absorb the news that their negotiations had broken down. As the writers guild informed its members that the talks were over, it sent each member a personalized form letter they can use to fire their agency if it has not signed the new Code of Conduct.
The new Code of Conduct, approved by the WGA membership last month, includes the elimination of packaging and agencies’ affiliation with production entities, and all of the major agencies have said that they will not sign it.
The form letter was linked in WGA’s missive to members this afternoon for each to sign electronically. The letter, the guild says, “in plain and respectful language accomplishes the task” of notifying the writer’s agency that they cannot represent him/her until they sign the new Code of Conduct. According to the WGA,...

NBC’s midseason comedy “Telenovela” is produced by Eva Longoria‘s company UnbeliEVAble Entertainment, but the “Desperate Housewives” star wasn’t always planning to be the female lead. The idea was initially pitched to writers Chrissy Pietrosh and Jessica Goldstein, with Longoria attached as an executive producer, but by the time it came to casting the show, the actress’ on-screen role was inevitable. “I kid you not, the first draft they wrote was so funny, the first draft,” Longoria said at an NBC press junket for their midseason comedies. “And by the time we shot, it was 20 drafts later, but the first draft.

It's a bidding war! Eva Longoria is being courted to star in pilots from both NBC and ABC, individuals with knowledge of the situation told TheWrap. NBC is offering her a telenovela-style show from “Cougar Town” co-executive producers Chrissy Pietrosh and Jessica Goldstein with studio Universal Television, an NBC representative confirmed to TheWrap. With Longoria onboard the project, it would get a straight-to-series 13-episode order. If not, it would get a pilot order. She would play a telenovela star whose life off-camera is just as dramatic as her life on-camera. Shondaland is on fire! Don’t worry; I don’t mean to say there’s an amusement park out there that’s modelled after all the series created by Shonda Rhimes and it’s caught fire. No, what I mean is Rhimes and Betsy Beers’ production company, Shondaland, has sold yet another developing drama to ABC. It’s almost as if she can do no wrong. She, or people working under her, come up with amazingly well thought out projects and they sell faster than anyone could possibly imagine. Sure, not all of them will get series orders, but it’s impressive enough that they get scooped up as often as they do.

After setting up six projects at ABC, the ABC Studios-based Mark Gordon Co. is venturing out with a drama sale at CBS and a comedy one at NBC, both produced by ABC Studios. The CBS project, Darkness Falls, brings together the key auspices behind long-running procedural Criminal Minds — CBS, which airs it; the Mark Gordon Co., ABC Studios and CBS TV Studios, which produce it; and the series’ executive producer/showrunner Erica Messer. Messer will write and executive produce Darkness Falls with fellow Criminal Minds executive producer Janine Sherman Barrois. The project is described as a character procedural that will explore the complex dynamic of an FBI psychologist and a homicide specialist as they journey into small communities around the country to solve the darkest, most twisted single murders. Cougar Town co-executive producers Chrissy Pietrosh and Jessica Goldstein have signed their first overall deal, a two-year pact with the series' producer ABC Studios. Under the deal, the two will continue to work on Bill Lawrence's comedy series starring Courteney Cox, which was given an early renewal in January. Additionally the duo will develop new projects. This season, they wrote the script Besties for ABC Studios and the Mark Gordon Co, which was in serious contention for a pilot pickup at ABC. ICM-repped Pietrosh and Goldstein's previous series credits include My Name Is Earl and ABC's Big Day. While female comedy writing teams are a rare species in TV, ABC seems to be the most receptive to such duos. The network's solid comedy series The Middle hails from Wbtv-based creators/showrunners Eileen Heisler and DeAnn Heline. And ABC Studios this spring signed a rich overall deal with the...
