This year’s inductees including Mary J. Blige, Cher, Dave Matthews Band, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Kool & the Gang, and Dionne Warwick are all confirmed to perform during the ceremony.
Unfortunately, Ozzy Osbourne, who has faced numerous health challenges in recent years, is not scheduled to perform. However, he still plans to attend the ceremony for his induction as a solo artist. Dave Chappelle wrapped his four-show stint in New York City to celebrate his 50th birthday with famous friends, including John Mayer, Busta Rhymes, Common, T.I. and Pete Davidson, who said he just finished rehab.
Davidson and fellow comedian Michael Che, both New Yorkers, took in the thrill of performing for a sold-out crowd at the famed Madison Square Garden on Saturday night. Both said they were proud of the moment and proud to celebrate Chappelle, whose birthday was Thursday.
Davidson won over the audience with his jokes, saying he arrived in NYC on Saturday after completing a stint in rehab. The Saturday Night Live star joked about his drug use, saying doing drugs as a 30-year-old — he hits the milestone in November — would no longer be cute.

In the world of late-night television, 2017's biggest media story was the fact that, after initial stumbles – and even rumors that he might get replaced – Stephen Colbert's much-hyped Late Show overtook Jimmy Fallon's seemingly invincible Tonight Show in the ratings. (NBC's boyish, game-loving host still has the advantage in the much-coveted 18-to-49 demo, but that lead keeps shrinking.) There were many reasons to cheer this news. From his time on The Daily Show to hosting The Colbert Report, Colbert has proved to be one of the best, most...

Although Larry David had impersonated Senator Bernie Sanders brilliantly multiple times on “Saturday Night Live,” the men’s resemblance was written off as nothing but a joke. After all, they’re both older Jewish men from New York. Of course they’re similar.
On Tuesday night’s premiere of PBS’ “Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates, Jr.” though, they discovered they have far more in common than just looks. After running a DNA test on the two, host Gates revealed that they share significantly long sequences of identical DNA. In short, they’re related.

It’s a little odd to feel nostalgic for the New York City of 1971, when the streets around Times Square were piled high with trash and danger lurked around every corner. But that speaks to the pure storytelling power behind HBO’s The Deuce (debuting Sunday, Sept. 10 at 9/8c), the vividly grimy new drama from The Wire creator David Simon. He locates the pulse of raw energy underneath all that sleaze and vice, and taps into it to create a rich and colorful tapestry — and one of the fall’s best new shows.

Ed Sheeran teamed up with Jimmy Fallon and the Roots for a ramshackle version of his hit "Shape of You" played with toy instruments on The Tonight Show Monday.
Sheeran pumped a banana-shaped shaker for extra percussion and sang over a mix of xylophone, kazoo and ukulele. The busy arrangement was a far cry from the sparse pop of the studio version of "Shape of You," but the performance still captured the song's playfulness, especially as the Roots hummed the song's rumbling backing vocals.

The Roots invoked Frank Sinatra, Chic and Christopher Cross during a freestyle-themed portion of The Tonight Show on Tuesday.
Jimmy Fallon headed into the crowd to mine source material for his trusty house band. With Valentine's Day and the NBA All-Star Game around the corner, Fallon asked audience members to answer hypothetical-yet-topical questions: "If you could make up your own candy heart, what would it say?" "If you owned your own basketball team, what would it be called?"
The Roots' Black Thought came up with a few whimsical lyrics based around the answers.

Kristen Stewart and Big Sean joined Jimmy Fallon and the Roots' Tariq Trotter for a game of "Facebreakers" on The Tonight Show. Stewart will be hosting Saturday Night Live this weekend, and Big Sean just released his album I Decided.
For the game, the four participants paired off to throw footballs at glass squares featuring prints of Stewart and Fallon's faces. The Super Bowl-appropriate game led to some jokes from Big Sean about having to "throw balls at [Fallon's] face." After a tough start from Stewart, whose first throw bounced off the glass,...

Jimmy Fallon knew just whom to turn to for all of his Golden Globes needs.
Questlove, who is this year’s musical director, revealed that he helped Fallon prepare for his hosting duties — even if it was in the middle of the night.
“Usually with Jimmy Fallon it starts with a call at one in the morning with a bunch of exclamation points,” the Roots drummer told People Deputy Editor Jd Heyman on the People and Entertainment Weekly live pre-show. Like, ‘Hey how about!’ And then you have to make it happen.”

It’s that time of year again. Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon was joined by an all-star cast last night for his (what may be?) annual holiday video sing-along. Metallica unplugged! Jimmy Fallon treated Tonight Show viewers to a very special musical cover with Metallica and The Roots on Wednesday night.
Watch: Adele, Jimmy Fallon and The Roots Perform 'Hello' With Classroom Instruments and It's Flawless
They performed the heavy metal band’s 1991 hit “Enter Sandman” using only classroom instruments.
Metallica’s lead singer, James Hetfield, rocked out on the vocals while also playing a colorful, small horn. Drummer Lars Ulrich banged on a tiny bongo drum.
The entire group wore Metallica, Tonight Show, and Roots T-shirts and looked like they were having a blast on the acoustic rendition.

Ahead of Lin-Manuel Miranda hosting Saturday Night Live, the Hamilton star stopped by The Tonight Show to play another round of "Wheel of Freestyle."
The game, where Jimmy Fallon gives Miranda three random words to incorporate into a Roots-backed freestyle rap, became a viral sensation when Miranda last played it in November 2015. Since the host admittedly lacks freestyling abilities, Miranda faced off against the Roots' Tariq "Black Thought" Trotter.
Although Miranda left Hamilton in July, his hip-hop skills are still on point as he deftly took down a freestyle featuring the words "robot,...

Will Forte sat in with the Roots on Friday's Tonight Show under the guise of guitarist "Gregg Almond," one-half of the famous Almond Brothers Band. "Not to be confused with the Allman Brothers Band, who as everyone knows are a bunch of thieving hacks who stole our careers," Almond said.
Gregg formed the group with his identical cousin Randy Almond. "We bonded in high school over two things: Our love of good, old-fashioned American rock music, and a life-threatening allergy to nuts and legumes," Almond told Jimmy Fallon without clarifying...

Jimmy Fallon briefly made the jump from late-night to early-morning when he and Kelly Ripa pretended to be “Live” co-hosts on Wednesday’s “Tonight Show.” “I’m not doing anything in the mornings, and we do have a little chemistry,” Fallon joked with Ripa, who has been working with a slew of guest co-hosts since Michael Strahan abruptly left the show in May. The two then moved over to a mock morning show set, where they interviewed Roots drummer Questlove about his new book “Something to Food About,” which is an actual book, by the way. The Supporting Actress Smackdown Of 1977 is coming. You already met two of our panelists. And here are the other three (including me).
Meet The Panelists
Panelist: Sara Black McCulloch
Bio: Sara Black McCulloch is a Toronto-based researcher, translator and writer. She has written for i-d, cleo Journal, Adult, The Hairpin, Gawker, Bitch Magazine and The National Post. You can read more of her work here.
Question: What does 1977 mean to you?
1977 seemed to be steeped in so much disillusionment. I think that, like the years that signal the end of a decade but don't quite bookend it, it was...fraught. The year was packed with events that pointed to change and fueled uncertainty. It was the year the U.S. signed the nuclear-proliferation pact and the same year that the U.S. government voted against covering elective abortions through Medicaid. The Apple II computer hit the market and Jimmy Carter...
