Weeds creator Jenji Kohan is here to harsh your sequel series buzz.
Speaking at the Seriesly Berlin TV conference in Germany, the Emmy Award-winning scribe sounded less than enthusiastic about Paramount+ With Showtime’s long-gestating follow-up to the pot dramedy. Now that weed has been legalized in nearly 40 states, “I don’t really know if there’s more story to tell,” she said, according to Deadline. “I think Weeds was done, and I think it’d be a money grab.

Another player is interested in returning to Weeds. The possibility of a revival was first reported in May. Showtime is developing a revival of the popular comedy-drama series that aired on the cable network for eight seasons between 2005-12. Christian Torpe would write and executive produce the series.
Mary-Louise Parker, Elizabeth Perkins, Hunter Parrish, Kevin Nealon, Alexander Gould, Justin Kirk, Andy Milder, Allie Grant, and Romany Malco starred in the original series. Parker is set to return for the new incarnation. The original comedy follows housewife and mom Nancy Botwin (Parker) as she finds creative ways to support her family after the death of her husband. The revival would reportedly take Nancy to Copenhagen.

If the long-gestating Weeds Revival gets the green light, another original star is interested in stepping back into the world of Nancy Botwin.
Elizabeth Perkins appeared in five of eight seasons during the show's initial run on Showtime.
In an interview with Variety, Perkins stressed that the new project was very much "talk" at this early stage in development.
The Afterparty Season 2 star admitted she would be ecstatic to get the opportunity to work with her former co-stars.
"I loved working with Mary-Louise Parker," she added.
"I love those two characters together, Nancy and Celia!"
Indeed, fans would be interested in checking back in with Celia, who was missing from the show's final three seasons.
By the end of Weeds' eight-season run, the series had changed so much that many of the original elements of the show were missing.

Elizabeth Perkins is high on reprising her role as Celia in Showtime’s possible Weeds revival.
In May, it was reported that the premium cabler — on which all eight seasons of the Og series aired from 2005 to 2012 — is developing a sequel series that would feature the return of Mary-Louise Parker’s Nancy Botwin. (The project had previously been in the works at Starz.)

As has been teased for several years, a return to the world of Weeds is in the works.
Initially, a sequel series was in the works at Starz, and now, the revival is set to sprout at Showtime.
Deadline says the series is in early development but that Mary Louise Parker is set to return to headline and executive produce.
Additionally, Showtime is also working on an update of Nurse Jackie, with Edie Falco in line to return.
The Weeds sequel will be written and executive produced by Christian Torpe, creator of the popular Danish series Rita, and would feature Nancy (Parker) in Copenhagen, the outlet reports.
Both series are said to be on the fast-track, with an eye of getting them on the air as early as quarter one of 2024.
However, the deals are still being ironed out, and a potential pickup could be contingent on what happens with the Writers Strike.

Exclusive Updated: Showtime is looking to bring back two of its signature comedy series, Nurse Jackie and Weeds. Both hail from Lionsgate Television and former Showtime chief Robert Greenblatt who has a deal at the indie studio.
Reps for Showtime and Lionsgate would not comment but I hear the followups, now in early stages of development, have the original leads, Edie Falco and Mary-Louise Parker, attached to star and executive produce. Sources stress that the projects are still coming together and deals are being negotiated.
The Weeds revival would be written and executive produced by Christian Torpe, creator of the popular Danish series Rita, and would feature Nancy (Parker) in Copenhagen, I hear.
Meanwhile, I hear the Nurse Jackie sequel would be written/executive produced by Abe Sylvia and Liz Flahive who were writers-producers on the original series. The concept is still being finalized.

It’s been nearly four years since we learned that a “Weeds” sequel series was in the works. When Variety exclusively broke the news of the revival in 2019, which was then at Starz, Mary-Louise Parker was set to executive produce and reprise her role as Nancy Botwin in the potential new series. But Justin Kirk, who played her charming and unfiltered brother-in-law Andy Botwin, isn’t so sure about it.
“Even as a fan, do you really want to see us all old and coming back? By the time of Season 8, I don’t think the general idea was, ‘We should keep doing this!'” he told Variety. “Look, I love those people, I love that character. I probably know as much as you do about any future reboots.”
In Variety‘s original report, the logline for the new “Weeds” was: “The new show picks up with the Botwin family...

It may seem mainstream these days, but a sequel to the subversive, Emmy Award winning episodic comedy series "Weeds" continues in development at Starz with Lionsgate Television producing, starring Mary-Louise Parker, 10 years after Season Eight, as the 'Botwin' family adjusts to making a living in a new era of cannabis legalization:
"Weeds" was created by Jenji Kohan, airing on Showtime 2005 to 2012, following central character 'Nancy Botwin' (Parker), a widowed mother with two boys 'Silas' (Hunter Parrish) and 'Shane' (Alexander Gould), who begins selling marijuana to support her family.
Other main characters include Nancy's lax brother-in-law 'Andy Botwin' (Justin Kirk), who moves in to help raise her children, foolish acquaintance 'Doug Wilson' (Kevin Nealon), narcissistic neighbor 'Celia Hodes' (Elizabeth Perkins), Celia's husband 'Dean' (Andy Milder) and their daughter 'Isabelle' (Allie Grant), as well as Nancy's dealers 'Heylia James' (Tonye Patano) and 'Conrad Shepard' (Romany Malco).

Starz boss Jeffrey Hirsch rolled up a few hints about the forthcoming reboot of the Mary-Louise Parker drama Weeds.
Hirsch, president and CEO at the Lionsgate-backed broadcaster, said Tuesday at the TCA winter press tour that there’s a “ton of great stories” to be told given that the world of cannabis has changed significantly since the show debuted in 2005.
Speaking during his exec session, Hirsch told Deadline, “Weeds is in development and I’m pretty excited about Lionsgate putting together a great package. Mary is obviously a great actor. The world of cannabis has changed significantly so there’s a ton of story to be told so we’re excited to see what Lionsgate comes up with for that show.”

Starz is working on a sequel series to Weeds, the Showtime series starring Mary Louise-Parker that ran for eight seasons from 2005-12. The news was revealed on Starz owner Lionsgate’s second-quarter earnings call Thursday.
Lionsgate TV produced the original series, which was created by Jenji Kohan. Louise-Parker is attached to executive produce and star in the new project, which Lionsgate says is in development. The reboot picks up with the Botwin family 10 years after the events of the original series in an era of marijuana legalization. Victoria Morrow is the writer/executive producer.
Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer said during the call that Weeds and fellow Lionsgate TV series Mad Men will also be taken into the syndication marketplace next year.
In the original Weeds, Parker played a widowed mother of two boys
(Hunter Parrish and Alexander Gould) who begins selling marijuana to support her family after her husband’s death.

On a scale of 1 to skin-crawlingly uncomfortable, this particular Un-Sub had a calling card that was off the charts creepy. I'm still a bit traumatized, I can't lie. Andy Milder guest starred in "Proof," and pretty much scared the be-jesus out of me and anyone with an eye phobia. Or a tongue one, for that matter. I know this show is about people being capable of the worst atrocities, but sometimes I wish those atrocities came with a little less creative license.
Apart from Milder's depiction of mentally-challenged suspect Cy - which, let's be honest, was acting at its not-so-finest - this episode was decent. But not amazing. Cy's speech issues were forced at best and at times it was really unsettling to watch him mimic the developmentally disabled.

Calling all Criminal Minds watchers; check out the latest casting news. Season seven of the drama will catch a visit from Weeds actor Andy Milder who has signed on to act what TV Line calls a “memorable guest stint”.
Milder will portray a mentally challenged character called Cy. Criminal Minds Season 7 Gets Ex Love
Milder already enjoys recurring roles on Parks and Recreation as Freddy the Snakehole Lounge owner and in The Middle as Principal Sholin.
The seventh season of Criminal Minds is coming Sept. 21st. We also hear Joe Mantegna’s character takes a “painful trip down memory lane” in the coming season.

Good ol’ competition; it makes the free market worthwhile, am I right? Well, even the drug trade sees rivalry, that’s for sure, and Nancy may be getting out of prison on Showtime’s season 7 of Weeds, but she won’t be immune to competitors in her chosen enterprise. And yes, that statement alone insures fans than Nancy is showing no signs of reform, even after three years behind bars.
So, who is the trouble maker? EW reports the young Buffy the Vampire Slayer actress Michelle Trachtenberg has just won the role of Emma, “a low-level pot dealer who gets the attention of Silas (Hunter Parrish).”
Michelle has also been seen in Take Me home Tonight and 17 Again. She starred in Ice Princess and filled the role of Georgina Sparks on CW’s Gossip Girl.

Weeds fans will find our behind the scenes look at season 7 to be priceless for sure, but today the interwebs are a-buzz with casting news regarding Marie-Louise Parker’s Showtime drama.
Pablo Schreiber “is currently filming a five-episode arc” for the show, according to Deadline. His television work doesn’t end there. He graduated to becoming a series regular for A Gifted Man, too. That’s the Patrick Wilson starrer and Schreiber portrays New Age spiritual shaman.
But, drum roll please, Andy Milder, the regular from Weeds season 3, who only showed up for a single episode of season 6, is making his come back. The actor will return in his role as Dean Hodes in a recurring type fashion.
Aidan Quinn and Martin Short are two well known actors about to debut on season 7, which begins June 27th. We have a season teaser and some bold promo art. Weeds fans may also like The Big C,...

Pablo Schreiber has joined the cast of CBS' new drama A Gifted Man as a series regular. He plays Anton, a shaman and New Age spiritual healer to Michael Holt (Patrick Wilson). Schreiber was a guest star in the Jonathan Demme-directed pilot and is now being upped to regular. Schreiber, repped by ICM and D/F Management, is currently filming a five-episode arc on Weeds and also stars in the upcoming feature Recalled. Stephen Root has been cast as a new regular in the FX drama pilot Outlaw Country, which is undergoing tweaking and some reshoots directed by Adam Arkin. The crime thriller/family drama, set against the backdrop of Southern organized crime and Nashville royalty, stars Luke Grimes as twentysomething Eli Larkin, who tries to leave a life of crime; John Hawkes as Eli's uncle Tarzen Larkin, a big-time player in the Southern crime world; Haley Bennett as...

When did Weeds cease to be Weeds? Was it when Nancy left the drug business to be little more than the manager for a maternity-wares store? Was it when Nancy found herself locked into a relationship with a politician from Mexico? If you’re looking for an exact moment, it’s when Agrestic burned to the ground, taking with it Nancy Botwin’s growhouse and all semblance of what made the show relevant. Since leaving Agrestic, the inherent comedy of a soccer mom selling weed has completely vanished with the story of Nancy’s crumbling family taking center stage. What happened to the show I used to enjoy?
The first episode of the fifth season, ends on a note that tells you exactly what has happened to this franchise. Some people will look at it and say, “Awesome, Weeds is still loose.” Others will say “What the hell was that?...

30 Rock -- Something happens when you assemble the right group of actors and give them the right words to say. It's called magic — or, in this case, the cast of 30 Rock. Once again, the ensemble is being recognized for its outstanding work. Obviously, Alec Baldwin, Tina Fey, and the inimitable Tracy Morgan anchor the group. But as with all great casts, the supporting players shouldn't be overlooked — where would Taxi be without Latka and Reverend Jim? Rounding out the noteworthy 30 Rock crew are Jane Krakowski, Scott Adsit, Katrina Bowden, Maulik Pancholy, Lonny Ross, Judah Friedlander, Keith Powell, Kevin Brown, Grizz Chapman, and the hilarious — even when he just stands there grinning — Jack McBrayer. The team magic was never more apparent than in the recent "Christmas Special" episode. As Kenneth (McBrayer) and Tracy (Morgan) listen in the background, Liz Lemon (Fey) delivers toys to a needy family, explaining that she found them through...
