Writer/Producer Richard Kahan was born and raised in the open prairies of Canada, and has worked in film and television for over 25 years.
Richard got his start as an actor and appeared in over 100 hours of television and various films, starring opposite the likes of Dennis Hopper. In addition to his series regular role on USA Network's Emmy-nominated THE 4400, he made dozens of guest appearances including THE MENTALIST and GREY'S ANATOMY.
Richard followed his passion for writing and producing, under the wing of his mentor, prolific writer/producer/show runner Ira Steven Behr. Richard worked on Sony Television/Starz multi Emmy and Golden Globe-nominated series OUTLANDER, writing one of the highest rated episodes of the hit series.
Richard went on to produce LUCKY, a feature film that marks the final performance of screen legend Harry Dean Stanton, with a supporting cast that includes David Lynch, Ron Livingston, Ed Begley Jr., Tom Skerritt, and Beth Grant. The film, which is also the directorial debut of celebrated character actor John Carroll Lynch, made its premiere at the SXSW Film Festival. LUCKY was received with both critical and financial success, selling to Magnolia Pictures for theatrical release in North America, as well as over 50 international markets.
In addition to his work on LUCKY and OUTLANDER, Richard wrote and produced THE ELEVATOR, a web series starring William Shatner, adapted Christal Presley's successful memoir THIRTY DAYS WITH MY FATHER, was hired to write and produce LIFELINE, a feature film for Academy Award-winning The Lagralane Group (Netflix's ICARUS) and produced KILLING ELEANOR, a feature film starring Jenny O'Hara, Annika Marks, Jane Kaczmarek, Betsy Brandt, and Camryn Manheim, set to be released in 2021.
Most recently, Richard was hired to write PONZI: PURE AND TRUE, a feature film based on the preeminent Charles Ponzi biography by Donald Dunn, and is currently writing on the highly anticipated television series BEACON 23, based on Hugh Howey's novel, for Spectrum and AMC.
