An original comic book to film adaptation is quite an impossible task. Although there may be films that are authentically true to the source, then there are films like Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel that change the rules.

The MCU has a rich history that began with the release of Iron Man in 2008, and it continues to expand with many new characters joining the franchise.
However, despite its massive success, there are certain individuals who have been blacklisted by the head of Marvel Studios, ruling out their return to the franchise, regardless of the success of their past projects.
Kevin Feige has been quite transparent about his preferences for collaboration, and unfortunately, two individuals have ended up in the category of those he prefers not to work with. In the book MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios, authors Joanna Robinson, Dave Gonzalez, and Gavin Edwards investigate the behind-the-scenes issues at Marvel Studios that led to Feige banning Joss Whedon and Edward Norton from future MCU projects.
If the Inhumans could be rehabilitated, apparently everyone in MCU history was on Feige’s call list. Except Edward Norton, the franchise’s first Bruce Banner,...

At this point, MCU has a long history. Starting with ‘Iron Man’ released in 2008 the cinematic universe keeps expanding and we can look forward to plenty of new faces joining the franchise.
Still, despite its enormous success, we can also definitely rule out some faces possibly forever since the head of Marvel Studios blacklisted them despite the success of their projects.
Feige has been pretty open in the past regarding who he likes to work with and who he doesn’t like to work with, and two names, unfortunately, found themselves in the latter category.
In the book ‘MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios,’ authors Joanna Robinson, Dave Gonzalez, and Gavin Edwards explore behind-the-scenes problems at Marvel Studios that resulted in Kevin Feige banning two individuals from future MCU projects. The individuals in question are Joss Whedon and Edward Norton.

The MCU, after successfully merging its films into a unified narrative, has also ventured into television, with several shows now considered part of the official MCU canon.
Managing such a vast array of storylines and characters takes immense effort, making it intriguing to explore the creative process behind this ever-expanding universe.

The MCU, after effectively combining its films into a single-narrative fictional universe, has now spread to television, with a number of shows becoming a part of the official MCU canon.

At the very start of the noughties, the horror genre was churning out some decent, if unspectacular movies. We saw the re-emergence of the spoof with the first entry in the Scary Movie franchise, Pinhead and co. continued to wreak spiky havoc in Hellraiser: Inferno, while the werewolf genre would get revived with the fun and well received Ginger Snaps. We also got a pretty poor Blair Witch sequel, and let’s face it, the first movie in that series only got traction due to an ingenious marketing campaign, and the media spouting bollocks about people being sick in the cinema from shock. Not the incredibly shaky camera work. Requiem for a Dream provided some messed up thrills, as did the similarly perverted Hollow Man. However, for every decent horror movie that was released, we also got howlers like Da Hip Hop Witch with Eminem. My point is, what the...

Marvel Executive Sets the Record Straight on Agents of Shield's MCU Canon Status - Main Image
Marvel Studios executive Brad Winderbaum recently addressed the canon status of Agents of Shield in the McU's Multiverse Saga.
For years, fans have been debating whether the beloved ABC series has its place in the MCU, especially now that it is exploring the multiverse where they have the opportunity to acknowledge its placement.
So far, we haven't seen any of the Marvel Studios projects recognize the storyline of Agents of Shield even if its earlier episodes have tie-ins to the MCU movies. Now, it looks like there may be some connection, after all.

The debate about Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s "canon" status continues to rage, especially with conflicting reports and comments about whether the ABC series took place on Earth-616.
Early seasons tied heavily into MCU movies thanks to appearances from characters like Nick Fury and Sif. The show's leads, meanwhile, played a pivotal role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Avengers: Age of Ultron.
However, as tensions between Marvel Studios and Marvel Television continued to rise, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. became increasingly more standalone felt like a completely separate entity when it ended.
Talking to Screen Rant at D23, Marvel Studios' Head of TV, Streaming, and Animation, Brad Winderbaum, largely danced around whether Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. should be considered MCU canon.
"I think that S.H.I.E.L.D. is a really great show and there was a long time where some of the best reveals in that show were during the Winter Soldier era where Hydra emerges and you're like,...

Note: This story contains spoilers for the Season 2 finale of “Criminal Minds: Evolution.”
Whether you consider it Season 2 or Season 17, “Criminal Minds: Evolution” ended with quite the explosion in Thursday’s finale. While fans were concerned for Paget Brewster’s Prentiss going into Episode 10, it was Zach Gilford’s serial killer Voit (aka Sicarius) who ultimately met his end — or did he?

[Warning: The following post contains Major spoilers about Snowpiercer Season 4 Episode 2, “The Sting of Survival.”] Peacetime has ended on Snowpiercer, 879 cars long. In Sunday’s episode, Admiral Milius (Clark Gregg) violently boarded the train with his “peacekeepers” and took control of the engine — but only after Melanie Cavill (Jennifer Connelly) opened the unbreachable vault door and let him in rather than allow her partner Ben (Iddo Goldberg) to be murdered by Milius. Once upon a time, Mel wouldn’t have let any amount of dead bodies come between her and the engine room, but like the world at large, apparently, she has begun to thaw. The good news is members of New Eden are alive, and one of Mlius’ key crewmembers, Nima (Michael Aronov) gave her proof — meaning her daughter is still out there. As for what’s next, well, TV Insider caught up with Jennifer Connelly to talk about what’s happened and what’s ahead. With...

It was a meeting of Marvel titans at San Diego Comic-Con, where Marvel editor-in-chief C. B. Cebulski welcomed Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige for a conversation about collecting and the ways comic books inspire films (and vice versa).
Cebulski spent part of the panel showing off famous comic book art, and pared them with the scenes they inspired in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Among them was the iconic cover to 2007’s Civil War No. 7, which showed Captain America blocking Iron Man’s beam with his shield, and the cover to the 1939 classic Captain America No. 1, in which Cap punches Adolph Hitler in the face. Both moments inspired moments in Captain America: Civil War and Captain America: The First Avenger.
Feige remarked that it’d be cool if Disney+ had a feature that would allow one to scroll through a movie, and then see the comic book art that inspired the shot.

If she hasn’t earned it already by now, June Squibb certainly deserves American-national-treasure status for her performance as the indomitable Thelma. Having played supporting roles for decades in films like The Age Of Innocence, Far From Heaven and About Schmidt, in 2013 she was nominated for an Oscar for Alexander Payne’s Nebraska. But, perhaps unsurprisingly for an industry that’s not very interested in women over 40, let alone over 90, this Sundance hit is her first-ever leading role.
And thankfully this indie comedy/road movie/nonagenarian revenge story serves Squibb extremely well. Thelma lives a quiet life after the passing of her husband, enjoying visits from her affable but aimless grandson Danny (Fred Hechinger) who helps her with emails and watches Mission: Impossible with her. In a sequence that will have you cringing in horror, she falls for a phone scam, posting $10,000 in cash to a Po box. She’s...

The choice to readapt Bong Joon Ho’s popular sci-fi dystopian was always a heavy burden. Yet Snowpiercer, which jumps to AMC and AMC+ in its final season, proved a unique adventure. Expanding the world far beyond the scope of the train, the series approaches its final season with patience. However, due to fracturing storylines, some of the most popular characters are pushed to the side. For some, the direction of the final season will be difficult to enjoy. Still, with a new group of antagonists and plenty of emotional farewells, Snowpiercer concludes.

Hayley Atwell is indeed one of the most talented stars in Hollywood, with her sheer determination and commitment to whatever she’s doing perfectly helping her ace her game. To say that the actress is so deeply invested in whatever she does that she hates losing wouldn’t be an understatement, considering how she once did everything in her power just because she didn’t want to lose.

This goes back to when she and James D’Arcy were challenged to fierce competition amidst the hilarious Dubsmash wars raging between them and the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. cast. At that time, Atwell marvelously proved just how competitive she could be by moving mountains and literally traveling across the country just to record a nine-second-long video with co-star Chris Evans!

The sprawling MCU not only includes the movies, but also a plethora of TV series, a fact which may have only come to mainstream attention in recent years due to the release of projects such as Loki, WandaVision, and What If…?

However, the more enlightened fans will know that the MCU’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was arguably the first TV series from the franchise that was met by fans with appreciation. Released in 2013, the 7-season strong show featured Clark Gregg’s Phil Coulson, and introduced several superpowered characters, including Elena “Yo-Yo” Rodriguez and Daisy “Quake” Johnson.
Well, both of those characters are set to make a return to the mainstream MCU via Armor Wars.

2012's "The Avengers" is a blockbuster inflection point, ending the brief reign of grim-and-gritty pop movies kicked off by 2008's "The Dark Knight." After Earth's Mightiest Heroes roused audiences at the box office, Hollywood started chasing cinematic universes, not Nolan-izations. Yet, funnily enough, "The Avengers" itself uses a blockbuster trope often credited to "The Dark Knight" — the villain who purposefully gets captured in the middle of the movie.
"The Avengers" writer/director Joss Whedon understood the key to making a successful movie was to place these six conflicting personalities into a single space and let the tensions boil. That's why the bulk of "The Avengers" unfolds on Shield's helicarrier; Whedon himself invoked "Glengarry Glen Ross" when describing his approach.
Having big bad Loki (Tom Hiddleston) be captured and kept in a cell on the helicarrier keeps him in focus, placing him close to the conflict even when the movie is...

If you just finished watching Episode 7 of Interview With the Vampire’s sophomore season, you’re probably teetering somewhere between devastated and inconsolable. But know this: it could have been worse. Much worse.
Spoiler Alert: Episode 7 ended with the brutal, heartbreaking, expertly crafted demise of Claudia. Viewers were left to watch in horror as the 14-year-old vampire was exposed to sunlight, gradually burning through her skin and bones until she was nothing more than a pile of ash. The entire sequence was painfully, excruciatingly dragged out, yet we only saw a fraction of the devastation.

Believe it: “Thelma” is the first leading role in the great character actress June Squibb’s four-decade screen career.
The 94-year-old star, whose guileless way in any movie suggests an actor who shows up to set and hits her mark without any fuss, feels ubiquitous in our screen lifetime. Since earning her SAG card in the 1980s and impressing in small roles on TV and film through the ’90s, she received the Oscar nomination that changed everything in 2014 as Will Forte’s cantankerous, tombstone-flashing mother in “Nebraska.” Squibb also played Lena Dunham’s ailing grandmother, spouting barbs from her deathbed, in HBO’s “Girls.” And she’s had roles in “The Big Bang Theory,” “Bones,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Good Girls,” and recently lent her voice to “Inside Out 2” as Nostalgia. Basically, if you need a granny who shirks nonsense for wisdom, and is a reassuring presence in spite of blunt truths,...

After knocking it out of the park with Poor Things last year, director Yorgos Lanthimos and star Emma Stone are back at the box office with Kinds Of Kindness from Searchlight, which looks set to shake up a sluggish arthouse market with the best limited opening this year.
The best PTA in 2024 so far is The Taste Of Things from IFC Films, which debuted at $43.4k on three screens back in February. Kinds of Kindness at five locations in New York and LA will pull ahead of that, significantly perhaps. The market’s been odd so it’s hard to say by how much yet. Tune in Sunday.
Also this weekend, Thelma, a crowd pleaser with a terrific June Squibb, launches on 1,280 screens, the widest release ever by distributor Magnolia Pictures. A24’s Janet Planet, the first feature by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Annie Baker,...

June Squibb isn’t one to turn down the opportunity to play interesting characters, so when the script for the action-comedy “Thelma” came her way, she was instantly hooked. That it marked the first lead role in her career after over 60 years in the business and was an action movie was merely the cherry on top.
“I don’t quite know what that means,” Squibb told TheWrap of the fact that this is her first starring performance. “But if I look at a script and if the character is interesting to me, then I decide yes. I couldn’t have turned this down. If it had been one day of shooting, I would have wanted to do it.”

When you get to be an actor of a certain age, you have the option of a lucrative career pivot into action movies. Just ask Liam Neeson, or Denzel Washington, or any of the other A-listers who’ve reinvented themselves as late-act ass-kickers. June Squibb has been acting for the past seven decades, and she shows no signs of slowing down at the age of 94, even performing her own stunts in Josh Margolin’s Thelma, in which her character goes on a reconnaissance mission across Los Angeles that metatextually channels the exploits of Tom Cruise from the Mission: Impossible movies. And she does it all with an impeccable sense for comedic timing and an infectious pathos.
The film tells the story of a grandmother who’s scammed out of $10,000 by a man pretending to be her son. When she decides to take matters into her own hands and get back what’s rightfully hers, she enlists the help of an old friend, Ben, and the man’s trusted motor scooter.

Magnolia has unveiled one more teaser trailer for Thelma, from writer / director Josh Margolin. It didn't win any awards, but did win over the hearts of Sundance 2024 viewers as one of the best of the fest (I wrote a glowing review). Inspired by a real-life experience of Margolin's actual grandmother, Thelma puts a clever spin on movies like Mission: Impossible, shining the spotlight on an elderly grandmother as an unlikely action hero. Yes, she kicks all kinds of butt in this. With infectious humor, Margolin employs the familiar tropes of the action genre in hilarious, age-appropriate ways to tackle aging with agency. In the first leading film role of her 70-year career, June Squibb plays Thelma with grit and determination, demonstrating that...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 17 Episodes 1 “Gold Star” and 2 “Contagion.”] The Bau has a new UnSub to track down in Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 17, and the really bad news is they have to work with a previous one, serial killer Elias Voit (Zach Gilford), to do it. Paramount+ is keeping Criminal Minds: Evolution on the case for another season.
The streamer has ordered a third season of the drama, a continuation of CBS’ long-running Criminal Minds that features much of the original show’s cast and is headed by longtime showrunner Erica Messer. The renewal comes a day before Evolution’s second season premiere.
The show’s second season (and 17th in the main Criminal Minds franchise) begins shortly after the events of the season one finale (though in the real world, it’s been 16 months since it last aired), with the Bau team investigating what (or who) the mysterious Gold Star is. “As the conspiracy unfolds,” the season two logline reads, “the Bau is met with an unexpected complication when serial killer Elias Voit (Zach Gilford) negotiates a deal that transfers him to federal custody in the Bau’s own backyard. The team faces its biggest...
