Stephanie Collie, the acclaimed British costume designer whose work on Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Peaky Blinders moved beyond the screen and made its way into mainstream culture, has died. She was 60.
Collie died Saturday at St. Christopher’s Hospice in South London following a terminal cancer diagnosis six months earlier, a publicist announced. Her husband, director of photography Hubert Taczanowski, died in June, also of cancer, at age 63.
Collie’s résumé also included Michael Winterbottom’s The Look of Love (2013), starring Steve Coogan, Anna Friel and Imogen Poots; London Has Fallen (2016), starring Gerard Butler and Morgan Freeman, and its 2019 sequel, Angel Has Fallen; and Patrick Hughes’ The Hitman’s Bodyguard (2017), starring Samuel L. Jackson, Ryan Reynolds and Salma Hayek, and its 2021 sequel, Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard.
Collie had a career breakthrough with the British gangster film Lock, and Two Smoking Barrels (1998), directed by Guy Ritchie and produced by Matthew Vaughn.

Rather than taking the obvious route with an action-heavy, fictionalized portrait of French thief Bruno Sulak’s criminal misadventures of the late 1970s and early ’80s, filmmaker Mélanie Laurent shrewdly treats “Freedom” as an introspective, tragic romance centered on one man’s purpose and passion. Her creative instincts prove correct, though flawed and not exactly all that unique given the existence of “Heat,” “Thief” and a litany of other titles that traverse similar thematic territory. While she and co-writer Christophe Deslandes hit tonal notes at an efficient pace and introduce fascinating angles connecting the three leads, their spin on true-life events, exploring the psyches behind all involved, barely scratches the surface, leaving its impact severely blunted.
When we first meet rebellious mastermind Bruno, he’s knocking over small-town supermarkets for sport with his getaway-driver girlfriend Annie (Léa Luce Busato) and burly bagman buddy Drago (Steve Tientcheu). They’ve been raking...

Stephanie Collie, the UK costume designer who created the iconic fashion look on the first season of Peaky Blinders, has died at the age of 60.

Collie based the look for Tommy Shelby and his early 20th century Birmingham street gang on criminal mugshots of the period. Her costume choices had significant influence on British fashion, and their effect continues to be felt 10 years after the show premiered.

Producers and distributors heading to Las Vegas for this year’s American Film Market, which runs Nov. 5-10, are betting big that indie action is primed for a comeback.
The AFM was built on action movies — the leading independent film bazaar launched in 1981 at the start of a decade defined by the cinematic stylings of Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger, Steven Segal, Chuck Norris and Jean-Claude Van Damme. But in recent markets, with the headline-grabbing success of breakouts like Neon’s Longlegs and Cineverse’s Terrifier 3, action has taken a backseat to horror.
There will be scares-a-plenty at AFM 2024, but many of the market’s buzziest projects sit squarely in the action space. Even a few that don’t star Liam Neeson, Gerard Butler, Jason Statham or Nic Cage. How buyers respond to this new generation of would-be action stars — Daisy Ridley, Amber Midthunder, Alan Ritchson — will determine who...

After rising to prominence in the 2000s, Gerard Butler cemented himself as one of the leading men in Hollywood, thanks to the success of Zack Snyder’s 300 and P.S. I Love You. While the former was a much more intense movie in comparison to the 2006 rom-com, behind the scenes, things went south within the first two days of P.S. I Love You‘s filming.

Johnny Depp’s new film Modi: Three Days on the Wing of Madness will close out the Rome Film Festival on Saturday, Oct. 26, and the denizens of The Eternal City can’t wait for the star to arrive.
Indeed, the highlight of an otherwise unremarkable edition of the 10-day-long fest will undoubtedly be Johnny Depp’s appearance on Saturday to present the biopic Modi, which premiered at the San Sebastian Film Festival and chronicles three chaotic days in the life of Italian painter and sculptor Amedeo Modigliani.
Meanwhile, at an event that is separate from the film fest, Depp’s film will on Friday night receive the coveted Capri Cult Award.
The producer of Modi, Barry Navidi, a long-time friend of Al Pacino, will pick up the Capri prize on Friday night.
The Capri Cult Award is bestowed by the Capri Institute, the non-profit organization that organizes an annual film fest on the eponymous island.

The Writers Guild of America has issued an edict: do not work for Millennium Films.
The production company, which initially formed as an offshoot of 1980s schlock house Cannon Films, is behind the “Expendables” franchise and other low budget action movie fare like “The Hitman’s Wife” (and its sequel), “Olympus Has Fallen” (and its two sequels) and the two latter “Hellboy” revivals.
The note the WGA sent out to its members states that the company is “not signatory to the 2023 Mba,” which runs for three years. The guild says that Millennium has repeatedly not paid writers on time or provided them with owed residual payments. Members who have been contacted by Millennium for work are urged to reach out to the guild’s legal department.

The filmmaker returned to that world with 300: Rise of an Empire in 2014 with a tale that took place before, during, and after the events of 300. Snyder co-wrote the screenplay with Kurt Johnstad while Noam Murro took on directing duties.

The Writers Guild of America is telling its members not to work for Millennium Films, the production company behind the “Expendables” franchise.
In a memo sent to WGA members and obtained by IndieWire, the guild says Millennium is not a signatory to the 2023 contract and that it has a history of failing to pay writers both compensation and residuals on time.
“The Guild has determined that Millennium is not financially responsible and requires the posting of an adequate bond before it can become signatory. “The Guild has determined that Millennium is not financially responsible and requires the posting of an adequate bond before it can become signatory,” the union said. “Millennium has, to date, refused to do so.”

The franchise maintains a core narrative structure of political conspiracy endangering the heads of the state of first-world superpowers and a superspy, Mike Banning, played by Gerard Butler in the movie trilogy, using his skills and wits to save the day. Gerard Butler and O’Shea Jackson are both back for Den Of Thieves 2: Pantera, which is confirmed for January 2025 release.-
Happily and proudly drawing influence from Michael Mann’s Heat, the heist thriller Den Of Thieves is a really entertaining movie. Released in 2018, it stars Gerard Butler and O’Shea Jackson, and was written and directed by Christian Gudegast.
The film – rightly – was something of a success as well, and the wheels were soon in metaphorical motion for a follow-up. It’s had to take its place in the queue behind some other Gerard Butler films, including the mighty Plane, but now Den Of Thieves 2: Pantera is readying for release.
The film shot in 2023, with Gerard Butler and O’Shea Jackson again headlining the film. Christian Gudegast is again in the director’s chair too, having penned the screenplay. Lionsgate, which backed the first movie, has put money into the second,...

Big Nick is back! That's right folks, everybody's favourite morally iffy, day-drinking LA County Sheriff's Department detective is back in the saddle, revved up and ready for more cops and robbers shenanigans in Christian Gudegast's heist movie sequel Den Of Thieves 2: Pantera. But whilst the first film was basically a down-and-dirty Heat, with Gerard Butler playing the Al Pacino to Pablo Schreiber's Robert De Niro, this time around — if the new trailer's anything to go by at least — it looks like our man Nick O'Brien is eyeing a slice of O'Shea Jackson Jr.'s World Diamond Centre pilfering pie for himself. Check it out below;
At an epic nigh-on three minutes long, you'd imagine there's a lot to unpack from this first look at the latest from the man who wrote London Has Fallen. But let's face it, we know exactly what we're here for with Den Of Thieves 2,...

After six years, the first official trailer for Den of Thieves 2: Pantera has arrived, giving us our first look at the upcoming heist thriller starring Gerard Butler and O'Shea Jackson Jr., although it looks like there will be a slight twist to their dynamic this time as, instead of trying to one up one another, they'll be teaming up to pull off the diamond heist of a lifetime.
However, the synopsis is not quite as revealing, telling us that "Big Nick (Butler) is back on the hunt in Europe and closing in on Donnie (Jackson), who is embroiled in the treacherous and unpredictable world of diamond thieves and the infamous Panther mafia, as they plot a massive heist of the world’s largest diamond exchange."

Calling all dudes and dudes at heart: "Den of Thieves 2" just unleashed its first action-packed trailer. Clocking in at almost 3 full minutes, this sequel to 2018's action hit looks like just what the doctor ordered, provided your doctor wants you to eat fried cheese and chug PBRs. "Den of Thieves," written and directed by Christian Gudegast, was essentially "'Heat' for dirtbags" — a big, greasy pastiche of a bunch of far better crime thrillers that came before it. It was derivative, it was silly, it was kind of amazing. The common consensus about "Den of Thieves" is that its trash — and I agree, but I don't mean that in a mean-spirited way! I love trash, especially when it's handled with care, and Gudegast worked hard to craft a surprisingly entertaining shoot-em-up about cops and robbers.

Zack Snyder adapted Frank Miller’s historically inaccurate comic book tale of the Battle of Thermopylae to give fans a great David vs Goliath war story in 300. Gerard Butler’s Leonidas led an army of 300 soldiers to face off against the 300,000 soldiers of the Persian God-King Xerxes in the film. It appears that Warner Bros. has invited Snyder back to explore more of the 300 universe.

Image Source: Amazon When the 2009 action film Gamer debuted, featuring a then-emerging Gerard Butler, fresh from successes like 300 and P.S. I Love You, it seemed poised for triumph. The film’s premise was captivating: in a dystopian future, death row inmates battle for their freedom in a ruthless online game controlled by teenage players. It had all the ingredients of a blockbuster—intense action, a thought-provoking concept, and a charismatic lead. However, Gamer stumbled at the box office, failing to resonate with both critics and audiences. What appeared to be a guaranteed hit became a commercial disappointment. Yet, over time, Gamer has cultivated a dedicated cult following through home video and cable broadcasts. Despite its occasionally over-the-top elements, the film remains an exhilarating and thought-provoking experience. Even back then, Gerard Butler recognized something unique in the film. Mutiny is currently filming in UK, with Jason Statham starring and the director of Plane calling the shots. More here.
Jason Statham kicked off the year in some style with The Beekeeper. It remains one of the most fun films of 2024, as The Statham managed to kick seven shades of shit out of people, all while tending to his non-metaphorical hive. Sequels would be very much appreciated.
The Statham hasn’t been sitting back and counting the coins from The Beekeeper’s surprise box office success, though. He’s already reteamed with the director of that particular film, David Ayer, for Levon’s Trade. That’s based on a screenplay from Sylvester Stallone, and in turn on the book of the same name by Chuck Dixon. It’s set for release this coming January.

It’s not often I’d be talking about Agatha Christie, Renny Harlin, Val Kimer and LL Cool J in the same breath, but thanks to the world of Tinseltown magic, here we are! And, before you’re mis-led into thinking this video is about the great Netflix show of the same name, let me just set the record straight. This ain’t that one folks. Nope, the movie we’re focusing on today somehow manages to blend the classic British literary world of Agatha Christie with LL Cool J spitting out lines like. That’s right gore-hounds, twenty years ago director Renny Harlin was best known for action classics, pirate movies, dangling Sylvester Stallone from great heights and giant sharks; way before the likes of The Meg and more recently, Under Paris. Then, an intriguing project came his way that would blend the worlds of Agatha Christie and gangster rappers,...

A superhero, sometimes spelled “super hero” or “super-hero,” is a fictional character known for their extraordinary physical abilities and commitment to heroic deeds for the greater good. The term “superheroine” is often used for female superheroes. While most superheroes have some form of superhuman strength, it’s not a strict requirement for the label.
Superheroes have long been associated with muscular, well-defined physiques, a standard established in the early days of comic books. Actors who portray these characters often conform to this muscular ideal, inadvertently setting a certain appearance standard for their fans.
Recently, a fan expressed concern online about this issue, criticizing superhero movie stars for promoting an unrealistic and potentially unhealthy body image. They argue that this practice is problematic and should be addressed, particularly because it differs from how female models are treated.

A superhero (alternatively spelled “super hero” or “super-hero”) is always a fictional character “of unprecedented physical prowess dedicated to acts of derring-do in the public interest.” A female superhero is sometimes called a “superheroine.” By most standards, a character needs not to possess actual superhuman powers to be deemed a superhero, but that is not a precisely defined rule.
Superheros are extremely popular, and since most of them possess at least some degree of superhuman strength, their bodies are often bulked up and full of muscles, which is a standard set in the early days of comic books. Of course, the actors portraying these characters also have to present such bodies, and whether they like it or not, they are setting a standard with such appearances.
Recently, though, a fan came online and voiced his opinion on this topic, criticizing superhero movie stars for setting an unrealistic and often unhealthy standard for the fans,...
