Leanne Morgan’s current tour is called Just Getting Started, and the 58-year-old comedian is living up to that with a comedy series and two more specials at Netflix. The streamer has given a 16-episode order to an untitled multi-cam sitcom, headlined by Morgan in her TV acting debut and executive produced by top comedy showrunner Chuck Lorre. Additionally, Netflix has picked up two more stand-up specials from Morgan following the success of her first one, the 2023 Leanne Morgan: I’m Every Woman.
Co-created by Morgan, Lorre and Susan McMartin, the Untitled Leanne Morgan Project will follow Leanne whose life is upended when her husband of 33 years leaves her for another woman. Starting over when you’re a grandmother and in menopause isn’t exactly what she had in mind, but with the help of her family, she will navigate this new chapter with grace, dignity and jello salad.

“Abbott Elementary” star Lisa Ann Walter has been ready for this moment. And actually, as someone who has been covering the TV business for a few decades, I’ve been waiting for Lisa Ann Walter to have this moment as well.
When I arrived in Los Angeles and first started covering television, it was summer 1996. I was a young 22-year-old kid suddenly thrust into reporting at events like the Television Critics Association press tour, where nearly everyone else around me was a crusty newspaper journo twice my age.
That first TCA was a boot camp in learning how new TV shows are launched, and I still vividly remember that freshman crop of fall 1996 series. In those hopeful months before September premieres, anyone has the chance to break out and go the distance. One of those sitcoms was ABC’s “Life’s Work,” starring a promising, brash, hysterical comic named, you guessed it,...

“Fantasy Island” will not be returning for Season 3 at Fox, Variety has learned.
The reimagining of the classic series originally aired during the summer on Fox, while the second season has been airing as part of the network’s midseason schedule.
“We were very pleased with Fantasy Island’s fun and escapist creative, which we had hoped would gain strong traction among viewers. Sony Pictures Television is an important partner of ours, and we look forward to continuing to work with them on ‘Accused,’ ‘Alert: Missing Persons Unit,’ ‘Doc’ and the upcoming animated series Universal Basic Guys/Hoagie Bros. We’d also like to thank Fantasy Island’s cast, led by Roselyn Sánchez, Kiara Barnes and John Gabriel Rodriquez, crew and executive producers Liz Craft, Sarah Fain and Anne Clements for their partnership on the series,” said Fox in a statement.

The ‘90s comedy Grace Under Fire followed a family much more hardscrabble than that of Home Improvement, the sitcom it was initially paired with on ABC. The show, created by Chuck Lorre, starred Brett Butler as Grace Kelly, a single mom raising three kids, while recovering from alcoholism and an abusive marriage, with the support of her colleagues and neighbors in the fictional town of Victory, Missouri. Unfortunately, Butler was struggling with addiction in real life, dealing with Vicodin abuse off-screen. And after a curtailed fifth season, a ratings downfall, and plenty of behind-the-scenes tumult, ABC pulled the plug in 1998. “At the bloody, bitter end, I really was difficult,” Butler told The Hollywood Reporter in 2021. “I was out of my mind. Drugs will do that to you. The show should have been pulled sooner than it was.” Nevertheless, the show started off a big hit with viewers, ranking as the...

"Hello, Wisconsin!"
It's time to face the hard truth — we are now as far removed from the 1990s as "That '70s Show" was from the 1970s when it first ran from 1998-2006. I'll give you a moment to pick yourself up off the floor after having to accept the crushing passage of time, but the good news is that Netflix is debuting their 10-episode, live-action sequel, "That '90s Show," early next year. The streamer convinced show creators Bonnie and Terry Turner to follow up with the Forman family after all these years, with almost the entire original cast returning, except for Danny Masterson (who is currently on trial and charged with three counts of rape) and Lisa Robin Kelly who tragically passed away in 2013.
The original series focused on Eric Forman (Topher Grace) and his friends, Donna (Laura Prepon), Kelso (Ashton Kutcher), Jackie (Mila Kunis), and Fez (Wilmer Valderrama) as...

In 2020, the Hollingsworth family — parents and educators Javoris “Jay” Hollingsworth and Arlene Gordon-Hollingsworth and their daughter, Graceyn “Gracie” Hollingsworth — were inspired by the lack of diverse children’s entertainment to create an animated show that featured their daughter and used music and dance to educate young viewers.

"You play things kinda close to the chest, don't you?" Gravitas Ventures has debuted a brand new trailer for the indie drama Age Out, the new name for the film formerly known as Friday's Child. This premiered at the SXSW Film Festival last year, and we ran a trailer last year as well, but it's only now getting an official Us release in the fall. Tye Sheridan stars as young drifter Richie, fresh out of foster care, trying to figure out what to do with himself. He ends up on the streets involved in petty crime and meets two other people: Joan, played by Imogen Poots, and Swim, played by Caleb Landry Jones. The film's cast also includes Jeffrey Wright and Brett Butler. This looks like a very artsy, intimate film with some intense shots by Dp Jeff Bierman. It definitely has that Terrence Malick-esque feel, for better or worse.

Gravitas Ventures has landed worldwide rights to A.J. Edwards’s crime drama Age Out (formerly known as Friday’s Child), which premiered at 2018 SXSW Film Festival. The pic, which will be released in limited theaters and on demand November 22, stars Tye Sheridan, Imogen Poots (Green Room), Jeffrey Wright, Brett Butler (The Walking Dead), and Caleb Landry Jones. The plot follows Richie (Sheridan), a fresh out of foster care 18-year-old who is forced to navigate a stark life on his own since his emancipation. Richie must survive despite a glaring environment of poverty, addiction and run-ins with the law. Tony Piantedosi, Vice President of Acquisitions at Gravitas, negotiated the deal with Alan Elias at OnBuzz.

(Major spoilers ahead for the March 24 episode of “The Walking Dead” on AMC)
(For real)
Fans of “The Walking Dead” by now are pretty used to the brutality of the show, with so many major characters being killed over the years. But nothing that has come before on “The Walking Dead” could fully prepare us for the emotional devastation that came at the end of this past Sunday’s episode — the next-to-last episode of season 9.
While maybe not as overtly severe as the season 7 premiere in which Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) beat Abraham and Glenn to death with his baseball bat, it certainly beat that episode in terms of quantity — this episode saw ten protagonist characters murdered and their heads placed on spikes.
In a sequence ripped nearly straight from the pages of the “Walking Dead” comics, Alpha (Samantha Morton) and her Whisperers managed to capture Daryl (Norman Reedus), Michonne...

This past weekend, The Walking Dead viewers experienced the calm before the storm.
Not that it was entirely calm, mind you, as Sunday’s episode still brought about a lot of major plot developments that will no doubt spill over into the season 9 finale, “The Storm.” Chief among them being Alpha’s next move. Her actions became the core talking point of Entertainment Weekly’s recent interview with Angela Kang, series showrunner on The Walking Dead and the person responsible for bringing an end to season 9 – and, presumably, setting the stage for season 10 ahead of its own premiere in October.
But before we get too far ahead of ourselves, let’s draw our attention to Alpha, leader of the Whisperers and our worst nightmare. Below, Kang reflects on the moment when Daryl, Michonne, Carol, Yumiko, and Siddiq discover their friends have been killed Game of Thrones-style with their heads mounted on pikes.

[Editor’s note: The following contains spoilers for “The Walking Dead” Season 9 Episode 15, “The Calm Before.”]
This Week On “The Walking Dead”
“The Calm Before” is complicated. On the one hand, it’s an effective piece of horror, skillfully playing out the dread of what, exactly, Alpha is going to do as reprisal for her stolen daughter, culminating in a truly memorable and ghastly image. The performances are strong, many characters are reunited, and it’s a vastly superior hour (plus) than the last big shocker episode, “The Day Will Come When You Won’t Be.” But as another chapter in the ongoing narrative, it just makes me want to throw up my hands. Here, again, is another pile of agonizing misery for our heroes. Here, again, the audience is strung through the emotional wringer so a new Big Bad can prove how super dangerous they are. It’s an exhausting and exasperating hour of television. Between this episode and “Scars” last week,...

“Happy Anniversary” says new Hilltop member Hilde to her husband Miles. The penultimate episode of “The Walking Dead” Season 9 leads viewers to believe that this happy couple will become series mainstays. But as we chart their relationship through years of anniversaries, their stay on the show is cut short. On the way to the fair, their cart winds up overturned, Hilde’s cache of cute Hilltop pendants strewn across the forest floor. The couple is dead, murdered by Alpha (Samantha Morton). This brutal episode expands upon this opening montage, as joyous characters are destroyed by the end credits. These are the five most shocking moments from “The Calm Before.”
The Charter
Everyone unites at the fair. Ezekiel (Khary Payton) gives a rousing speech about joining to celebrate their accomplishments and friendships. Not everyone is in a celebratory mood however, particularly Tara (Alanna Masterson). She’s angry Lydia (Cassady McClincy) was granted asylum by Alexandria.

The death toll on “The Walking Dead” Season 9 has been staggering. Gregory (Xander Berkeley) was executed. Jesus (Tom Payne) was murdered. Saviors were gunned down and burned alive. In addition, main cast members Andrew Lincoln and Lauren Cohan were written out of the series. My “walker-sense” is tingling and telling me there will be more bloodshed before the season finale, which is scheduled to air March 31 on AMC.

The fair is almost here. Season 9 of “The Walking Dead” is galloping towards this moment, where in theory, all four united communities will gather together for the first time in years. Homemade banners (reminiscent of house banners from “Game of Thrones”) for each community are even unfurled in The Kingdom in celebration. But the road to this festive occasion proves fraught. Some survivors are pursued by Whisperers, while others encounter a strange new group. Check out the five most memorable moments of “Chokepoint.”

(Spoilers ahead for the season 9 mid-season finale of “The Walking Dead” on AMC)
For the entirety of season 9 of “The Walking Dead” so far, Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) has been stuck in one spot: his jail cell in Alexandria. We’ve spent some time with him occasionally, as he taunts those who visit him. This week, it’s Gabriel (Seth Gilliam) who bears the brunt of Negan’s heckling.
And it’s Gabriel who seemingly made a big mistake that will change the course of Negan’s future. Late in the episode, after flustering Gabriel with his usual smack talk — Gabriel was not in the mood to deal with him because he was worried about Rosita but couldn’t see her because he was on Negan duty — Gabriel closes the cell and storms off. That night Negan discovers that the cell door is not actually locked.

Saviors go missing, along with fuel they intended to trade with Hilltop for food. And after her #HilltopFirst power trip last episode, Maggie (Lauren Cohan) has no patience for Michonne’s (Danai Gurira) request to hand over the food anyway. Michonne also questions Maggie’s decision to keep Earl locked up, despite his attempted murder of Maggie. She eventually lets his wife Tammy Rose (Brett Butler) visit the prisoner, and...

The Walking Dead Season 9 Episode 2
Rick Grimes and his friends are working hard to build a new world. The remains of the old world, as established, are increasingly becoming a thing of the past. No gasoline, no canned goods, and a crumbling infrastructure that is making travel and trade between the sprawling collection of city-states difficult, if not impossible. Without tractors, modern farming is impossible. Without food, life is impossible. Sure, plows and wagons will help, but there's only so much that can be done, and the zombie menace is omnipresent, especially considering that bullets must be hand-filled and recycled. The only way to accomplish any big project is via lots and lots of manpower, so that means when the bridge needs to be rebuilt,...

Who plays Tammy on The Walking Dead? Who is Earl? These are questions that fans of the show are asking about the second episode of the new season. During the season premiere, Ken perished during an attack from walkers. Ken was a resident of Hilltop and had worked as a stable boy for a while. He wouldn’t be considered a main character on the show, but his story is going to become an important one. Ken’s parents debuted when Maggie Greene went to tell them the news about their son. This was when the characters of Tammy Rose and Earl […]

Spoiler Alert: Do not keep reading if you have not seen “The Walking Dead” Season 9, Episode 2, titled “The Bridge.”
This week’s episode of “The Walking Dead” opens with Rick (Andrew Lincoln) addressing an unseen person, whom viewers of the Season 9 Comic-Con trailer already know to be Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). As Rick tells him about the progress all the communities are making together, with the camera moving through a camp the groups have set up as they work to repair the bridge that was seen to have collapsed in the season premiere. Rick rejoices that people not simply fighting for survival anymore, but rather are building something for the future.
Construction on the bridge is moving along, but Rick learns that a herd of about 100 walkers is getting closer and will no doubt be drawn closer when they use the explosives they need to proceed with construction. Luckily, our...

Who is Brett Butler on The Walking Dead? Following the Twd season premiere, many fans have been searching for information about the actress. It’s probably because Butler has such a familiar face and voice, but hasn’t been a member of the ensemble cast until Season 9. On Sunday night, the long-awaited debut of the show took place on AMC. It was a nearly 90-minute installment (including commercials) that revealed what has been taking place after the Season 8 war. Negan has been jailed, four towns are trying to rebuild, and there is suddenly a leadership vacuum waiting for someone to step […]

Angela Kang came in with a bang in her first outing as the showrunner for “The Walking Dead.”
The Season 9 premiere was an impressive mix of action, horror, comedy, and genuine emotion, hearkening back to some of the best episodes in the show’s history.
The premiere opens with a quick look at Alexandria, Hilltop, and the Sanctuary, which are all more built up after the time jump from the Season 8 finale. People are now riding on horseback due to the increasing scarcity of gasoline, while Alexandria has lined its streets with solar panels. Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) spend some time with Judith, while Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Eugene (Josh McDermitt) work on producing corn ethanol fuel at the Sanctuary.

Rick and Negan fought each other for two straight years, and it felt like five. Carl got bit, but before he died he told Rick that “destroy all your enemies” probably wasn’t the best plan for humanity’s long-term prospects. Eugene single-handedly won the war by sabotaging the Saviors’ weapons, and Rick spared Negan’s life (while still slashing his throat). Time to rebuild society, baby!
A Fresh Start
Season 9 has a brand-new showrunner in longtime producer Angela Kang, and with the Negan war in the rearview mirror, Kang wastes no time in establishing the new status quo. The premiere isn’t called “A New Beginning” for nothing. There’s a significant time jump of a year or more (the show has always been a bit dodgy with the passage of time) and the core conflict is not between Rick’s team and a pack of savage murderers,...

Smiles are few and far between in the dozen images from Season 9 of The Walking Dead that AMC dropped Thursday. In particular, Rick (the soon-to-depart Andrew Lincoln) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan) wear expressions that are so grim, they’d look right at home at a funeral.
But the pictures don’t paint an altogether bleak portrait of the series’ new world order. They also give us glimpses of the gang working together and giddy-upping through the woods, and there’s even a too-sweet shot of a couple that apparently has finally officially become a couple. With three well-rated comedies still airing on CBS, Chuck Lorre has had a successful working relationship with Les Moonves for decades. During Sunday afternoon’s TCA panel for Lorre’s new Netflix show, “The Kominksy Method,” the creator of “The Big Bang Theory,” “Young Sheldon,” and “Mom” — not to mention “Two and a Half Men,” “Mike and Molly,” and “Cybill” — responded to allegations that the CBS chairman of the board, president, and CEO sexually harassed six women and has committed more sexual misconduct over the course of his career at CBS.
Though reluctant to answer at first given the “venue,” Lorre responded under a broader context. “I do think it’s important to have a safe work environment. And I’ve been in some unsafe environments. You can read about them,” he said.

Chuck Lorre indirectly addressed the sexual misconduct allegations against CBS chairman and CEO Leslie Moonves during an appearance the TCA summer press tour on Sunday.
Lorre co-created “The Big Bang Theory,” which is currently the highest-rated show on CBS, as well as several other CBS shows. He declined to comment directly on the allegations against Moonves, but did say it is important that people feel safe when they come in to work.
“I’ve been in some unsafe environments in television. You can read about that,” Lorre joked, referencing his infamous falling outs with stars like “Two and Half Men’s” Charlie Sheen and “Grace Under Fire’s” Brett Butler.
“Why would anyone want to go to work in an environment that’s not nurturing?” Lorre continued. “You can’t do good work in an unsafe enviroment. It has to be made safe for everyone….That should go without saying.

The end is near for Rick Grimes. As expected, Andrew Lincoln confirmed on Friday that the upcoming season of “The Walking Dead” will be his last.
“I love this show, it means everything to me,” he told the audience at “The Walking Dead” San Diego Comic-Con panel. “I love the people who make this show. I’m particularly fond of the people who watch this show. This has been the most extraordinary, amazing and beautiful experience of my career. I don’t want to turn this in to an Oscar acceptance speech or an obituary, as we’re deeply proud of the work we’ve done this season.”
Lincoln and the show’s producers declined to elaborate on how Rick would depart the show, but Lincoln added that “my relationship with Mr. Grimes is far from over. He’s a large part of me… I’m really excited about this season.

The cast of The Walking Dead is going to keep growing in season 9, as it looks like as many as 11 new characters could be joining AMC’s hit zombie drama in its latest run.
By compiling information from leaked photos and reports from the set, Reddit user @LastGreene put together a collage of characters and actors expected to appear when the show returns. From what we understand, these new additions are to be played by folks such as Lauren Ridloff, Gustavo Gomez, John Finn, Zach McGowan, Brett Butler and dancer/choreographer Angel Theory.
Due to some recent news, however, we know one of these educated guesses to be incorrect. That’s because Theory is not playing Connie but rather, the previously mentioned Ridloff is. "You know what we call it?" A teaser trailer has debuted online for a film titled Friday's Child, the latest feature from filmmaker A.J. Edwards, who worked for Terrence Malick as his editor before jumping into making his own films. This looks like a very artsy, powerfully intimate film with some very intense cinematography by Dp Jeff Bierman. The score in this trailer is superb, and the footage will pull you in - for whatever you may find in here. This is a good palette cleanser from all the recent Hollywood trailers.

Friday’s Child, a new crime drama from The Better Angels director A.J. Edwards, initially premiered at the South by Southwest Film Festival, and now, ahead of a Shanghai International Film Festival bow, the first trailer has arrived. The film tells the story of 18-year-old Richie Wincott (Tye Sheridan) who, after being involved in a robbery-gone-wrong, must avoid altercations with the police. All the while, Richie’s developing – albeit, implausible – relationship with a friend (Imogen Poots) is intercepted by a mysterious outsider (Caleb Landry Jones).
Taking a look at the trailer, A.J. Edwards’ use of drastically wide lenses, phantasmal camera moves, and an eerily hypnotic score establishes a style strikingly reminiscent of Terrence Malick’s – although this shouldn’t come as a surprise, considering Edwards has been a career-long pupil of Malick. With contributions on Malick’s The New World, The Tree of Life, and To The Wonder, it...

For obvious reasons, episode 1 was all about setup and introductions - introducing the characters, the threat, the world they inhabit - and episode 2 was all about knocking that down. Because it turns out, we weren't watching the start of a new Star Trek series so much as the traumatic backstory that precedes it. Normally, someone would say "this officer was the best! But they screwed up and got thrown in jail. Now we're pulling them out of retirement to go on one more mission!" and possibly describe some effects-heavy sequences. But this time, we actually get to see it! And feel it!
And man, do we feel it.

"What do you keep back there, King Kong?" Gravitas Ventures has unveiled a trailer for an indie horror thriller film titled Nightworld, from Chilean director Patricio Valladares.
