A shameless case of network synergy results in one of the silliest late-night sketches in quite some time.
In the video above, CBS funnyman Stephen Colbert enlists the services of Tracker star Justin Hartley when his favorite Late Show coffee mug goes missing. Despite Colbert’s refusal to refer to him by name and not “Tracker,” Hartley drops what he’s doing — he was just about to watch the guys from FBI wrestle the guys from NCIS! — and leads a chaotic search through the Ed Sullivan Theater. It all culminates in a wild foot chase through the studio audience.

May of 2003 was almost bone-dry for big-screen horror until 20th Century Fox released Wrong Turn; director Rob Schmidt and screenwriter Alan B. McElroy’s collaboration arrived in theaters the weekend after Memorial Day. Later on, the fairly successful film inspired a whole franchise of follow-ups, which exceeded the original in terms of sheer gruesomeness. However, this underrated offering of backwoods horror still delivers in areas its direct descendants do not.
As a reflection of the real world, horror steadily became urbanized. The late 1990s had all but abandoned the great outdoors as a dreadful destination and backdrop, especially in the wake of Scream. No longer did characters have to leave their neighborhood in order to feel threatened. The next decade, however, saw a comeback for travel terror; vacations overseas and across borders commonly unfolded in horrific fashion, and local sojourns, like that of Wrong Turn, did not turn out any better.

In the shadowy corners of the horror genre, where slashers and ghost stories reign supreme, there lurks a movie that’s been criminally overlooked. Enter Cry_Wolf, the 2005 teen thriller that cleverly played its audience like a fiddle. It’s time to rewind the tape, folks, and give this hidden gem the kudos it deserves. Though you may have missed it under the slasher ressurgence of the late 90s-early aughts, Cry_Wolf is not your run-of-the-mill post-Scream era slasher.
Cry_Wolf is a tangled web of truth, lies, and AOL Instant Messenger. The story kicks off with a group of prep school students who concoct a devious game: spreading a fake rumor about a serial killer to scare the entire student body. The game takes a dark turn when the fictional murders start happening in real life, and the game they invented is no longer in their control..

Sam Esmail’s years-in-the making adaptation of Fritz Lang’s classic 1927 sci-fi film Metropolis became one of the first major casualties of the 2023 Hollywood strikes. Seven weeks into the WGA work stoppage, the UCP studio, where Esmail has been under an overall deal, pulled the plug on the big-budget series, which had been prepping in Australia with a partial cast set, including Briana Middleton and Lindy Booth.
Because of the strike, Esmail could not comment on the cancellation at the time. He shared his reaction tonight on the red carpet for his upcoming Netflix movie Leave the World Behind starring Julia Roberts and Mahershala Ali.
“Obviously, it was heartbreaking,” he told Deadline. “But during the strike, we all understood. And I got to work with a lot of talented people out in Australia, where we were mounting the production. It was a really good experience, and I don’t regret it for a second.

A passion project for Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail, the TV series Metropolis, inspired by the 1927 sci-fi classic directed by Fritz Lang, was officially ordered by Apple TV+ fifteen months ago. Earlier this year, Briana Middleton (Sharper) and Lindy Booth (The Librarians) were cast to star in the show. Sam Esmail‘s (Mr. Robot) big-budget sci-fi series Metropolis, based on the 1927 Fritz Lang movie of the same name, has been scrapped amid the ongoing writers strike and rising production costs. As reported by Deadline, the ambitious Apple TV+ series, which had been prepping in Australia, has been permanently shut down, with the crew being notified the project will not be moving forward. Lindy Booth is a literary novelist in this baffling, post-postmodern bookworld tale of sex and rivalry
Decidedly weird – clearly intentionally so but not always in a good way – this pretzel-shaped black comedy stars Lindy Booth as a successful literary novelist named Eryn Bellow, first encountered working the bookstore promotional circuit via chauffeured cars and first-class flights. She’s not so much accompanied as pushed from behind by her caustic agent Carrie.
But Eryn is blocked and can’t seem to land on a concept for her next book, the follow-up to The Chartreuse Misnomer, a name that in itself is a pretty good send-up of literary pretension. A bad-tempered spat with rival novelist Theo Mencken (Peter Bogdanovich) on a TV show precedes a strange diversion down a narrative rabbit hole that sees Eryn trying to live out scenes in another novelist’s book with sexual adventures with assorted guys (including...

Our genre television podcast hosts discuss lesser known shows that sci-fi/supernatural stars were in before they were famous.
Television stars don't always achieve fame on their first project. But beyond all of the guest spots and hopping between commercials, films, and procedurals, it can be somehow satisfying to realize that some of our favorite science fiction, fantasy, horror, and supernatural actors were in earlier, lesser known series in those same genres before they were in the show that we know them for. Sometimes, this previous work is best left to obscurity, but that's part of the fun of discovery.
In this episode of Sci Fi Fidelity, we talk about some notable examples of well-known genre actors that had other large roles that didn't exactly win them the notoriety they would later achieve. We start of with Lindy Booth of The Librarians, who was surprised...

Horror film franchise Wrong Turn is the latest property to get the reboot treatment.
A Wrong Turn reboot movie is in the works. – Whether or not moviegoers were clamoring for such a thing remains to be seen.
Regardless, Deadline reports that the Fox-distributed Wrong Turn slasher series is coming back to the forefront, thanks to original company Constantin Films, which has tapped franchise creator Alan B. McElroy to write a script that updates his original cannibal-killers-in-the-woods concept. This reinvented Wrong Turn movie will see Mike P. Nelson occupy the director’s chair.
Martin Moszkowicz will serve as executive producer joined by Constantin’s Robert Kulzer. As Kulzer lauds of the reboot effort:
“Alan’s re -interpretation of his own work and Mike’s vision are a frightening reflection of our world today: one person’s American dream is another’s worst nightmare.”

Turner’s TNT has renewed its hit fantasy-adventure series The Librarians for a fourth season.

While retrieving this week's MacGuffin, Cassandra and Jake encountered the titular Reunion of Evil in The Librarians Season 3 Episode 3. The attendees were, of course, Norse Frost Giants, much to the dismay of our heroes.
Naturally, this resulted in all sorts of hilarity and shenanigans as the two Librarians tried to blend in with this less-than-savory crowd.
"And the Reunion of Evil" was directed by none other than Noah Wyle (Flynn Carsen) himself, and he acquitted himself quite well behind the camera with this episode.
The real measure of any work — whether literature or a movie or an episode of television — is whether or not it entertains the viewers. And I confess to having a lot of fun with "And the Reunion of Evil." Was the premise silly? Sure. But I felt that they made it work.
