I can’t keep up with him.
On a recent September afternoon, Jude Law is running away from the set of “Black Rabbit,” a Netflix miniseries where he plays a Manhattan nightclub owner who welcomes his troublemaker brother back into his life. Today’s setup, shot in the South Street Seaport, involves a flashback sequence between Law’s character and his scraggly sibling, played by Jason Bateman. Law and I are supposed to meet in the lobby of a hotel after the scene wraps, but filming goes over, and his assistant, Ryan, texts me that Law wants to talk to me as he walks to his trailer a few blocks away. But by the time I make it outside, he’s already a distant figure on the horizon.

There's no shortage of Stephen King shows on TV. The prolific horror author's works have been translated to the small screen no fewer than two dozen times across five-plus decades, beginning with Tobe Hooper's "Salem's Lot" miniseries in 1979 and spanning all the way to an upcoming "Sleeping Beauties" adaptation and Mike Flanagan's highly anticipated take on "The Dark Tower." Plenty of King shows have enjoyed celebrated runs and completed the stories their creators planned to tell, but there are a few that slipped through the cracks and were canceled too soon. Among them is "The Outsider," an utterly creepy King adaptation that got the short end of the stick when it debuted in 2020.
"The Outsider" earned rave reviews when it premiered on HBO in January of that year, but by the time its finale aired, the world had other things on its mind.

Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy was celebrated on Thursday not for having one of the biggest movies of the year, but for his philanthropy alongside wife Serena.
The couple were honored at the A Sense of Home Gala, benefitting the non-profit that aims to prevent homelessness by creating first-ever homes and a community for youth aging out of foster care. Ted Sarandos and Nicole Avant hosted the event at their Los Angeles home, with a guest list that included Jason Bateman, Tobey Maguire, Edward Norton, Michelle Rodriguez, Terry Crews, Emile Hirsch, Scott Stuber and Molly Sims, Mayor Karen Bass and L.A. County Supervisor Holly Mitchell.
“We both got interested in the work that was being done when we started thinking about the connection between aged-out foster youth and homelessness in this city — a complicated problem with a seemingly simple answer,” Sarandos said of himself and Avant during the event.

Kaley Cuoco, Chris Messina, Tom Bateman and Liana Liberato are back with more murder and mayhem in Based on a True Story season two. And this time, there’s a new pint-sized accessory in tow.
Based on a True Story is based on (or partly inspired by) a true story. The series, which satirizes true-crime tropes, introduced Cuoco and Messina as Ava and Nathan, a down-on-their-luck couple who crossed paths with an infamous serial killer, “The Westside Ripper,” in Los Angeles. Ava, a pregnant true-crime obsessive, suggested making a podcast with the killer as a way out of their marital rut.
Now, after the events of season one, season two opens with Ava and Nathan as new parents who attempt to now get out of the true-crime game — but, as the trailer shows, those aspirations are fleeting. The season opens on Ava and Nathan struggling to balance parenthood with waking away from their obsession.

Exclusive: Amazon MGM Studios has moved to preemptively acquire The Killing Kind, a psychosexual thriller pitch from screenwriter Zach Helm (Stranger Than Fiction), which Ryan Reynolds’ Maximum Effort is attached to produce, sources tell Deadline.
Amazon MGM declined comment. Specifics as to the plot of the film are under wraps for the moment.
Helm comes to The Killing Kind after working in the same vein as the co-writer of Deep Water, the erotic thriller, starring Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas, from Fatal Attraction‘s Adrian Lyne. A few years ago, audio platforms and media companies threw enormous amounts of money at creators to build their podcasting slates. Spotify, which spent more than $1 billion on its push, inked deals with the Obamas, the Sussexes and more, in addition to bankrolling its biggest star, Joe Rogan. Now, after a content spending pullback, it’s a different landscape. One that, in the telling of SiriusXM president and chief content officer Scott Greenstein, has matured to the point where it’s clear which big players in the audio space still can write checks. Namely, SiriusXM, Spotify, Amazon’s Wondery and iHeartMedia.
SiriusXM has been particularly aggressive in making rich talent deals this year, snapping up both SmartLess and Call Her Daddy, two of the most popular podcasts in the industry. Taron Egerton and Jason Bateman star in festive thriller Carry-On, which will stream on Netflix in December. Here’s the trailer:

Last quarter, Netflix poured cold water on its rivals’ plans to put together streaming bundles and, three months on, it is going a step further.
The streamer has slammed the idea of streamer bundles after delivering its latest financial results, which saw it add 5.1M subscribers.
“Programming for such a large, engaged audience, with so much variety and great quality, is hard. It’s why streaming services which lack our breadth of content are increasingly looking to bundle their offerings. Netflix is already an extraordinary package of series and films (licensed and original), and increasingly games and live events — all in one place and for one price, easy to use and great value for money,” it noted in a letter to shareholders.

Netflix’s “Carry-On” is now approaching.
The new thriller, directed by journeyman filmmaker Jaume Collet-Serra, stars Taron Egerton as a Tsa agent who is being blackmailed by a very bad guy (played by Jason Bateman) into letting a suitcase slip through security.
The action movie debuts Dec. 13 on the streamer, and a brand-new trailer out Wednesday gives a taste of what to expect from this Christmastime thriller. Watch it below.
Sure, the trailer is brief, but it gives a sense of what fun will be in store this holiday season. Plus, Collet-Serra has directed several terrific thrillers that involve public transportation, including “Non-Stop” and “The Commuter,” so this is very much in his wheelhouse. And Egerton makes for a very sympathetic hero.
“Carry-On” also follows in the footsteps of “Die Hard,” “Lethal Weapon” (or pretty much anything screenwriter Shane Black wrote) and, more recently, “Silent Night,” in terms of action movies set during Christmas.

"All you have to do – is nothing." Netflix has revealed a first look teaser trailer for a holiday thriller called Carry-On, landing to watch in December later in the year (on Netflix worldwide). It's a new action thriller from Jaume Collet-Serra, who is giving us this present of a B-movie with some cheesy direct-to-video vibes. The mysteriously vague synopsis only explains: A young Tsa agent fights to outsmart a mysterious traveler who blackmails him into letting a dangerous package slip onto a Christmas Eve flight. The impressive ensemble cast features Taron Egerton as the Tsa agent, Jason Bateman, Sofia Carson, Danielle Deadwyler, Logan Marshall-Green, Dean Norris, Sinqua Walls, and Jason Bateman. The coolest thing about this is Bateman as the bad guy?! This actually looks like the best kind of chilling schlock to enjoy during the holidays this year. // Continue Reading ›...

Jason Bateman has gone real no-more-Mr. Nice Guy on us.
The “Ozark,” “Horrible Bosses,” and “Game Night” star puts on a domestic-terrorist face (and hat) in the teaser for Netflix Christmas movie “Carry-On.” It’s, ah, not exactly “Elf.”
In “Carry-On,” before Bateman can terrorize a Christmas Eve flight, he first must make Taron Egerton’s job a living hell. Oh, and he might just kill the young Tsa agent’s significant other, played by Sofia Carson, as well.
“One bag for one life,” is Bateman’s blackmail offer.
We’re guessing he doesn’t have Clear.
Basically, Bateman targets Egerton to let his mysterious suitcase through the security scanners and onto the airplane. We don’t quite know (yet) what is in the package, but considering the gunfire and Tom Cruise-esque sprinting through the airport, Bateman’s cargo is probably a bit worse than nail clippers.

Netflix has a holiday gift for fans of trash cinema. Jaume Collet-Serra, the director of "Non-Stop," is returning to the skies for a new action film, this one entitled "Carry-On." Collet-Serra is a maestro of this particular genre, having devoted a good chunk of his career to making ludicrous Liam Neeson action thrillers that are often ludicrously entertaining, and this one looks like it's cut from that same cloth.
Taron Egerton stars as a Tsa agent who has to outsmart a mysterious terrorist figure, played by Jason Bateman ("Arrested Development"), who demands that the Tsa agent let a dangerous package slip through security at an airport, or else the terrorist will kill someone the agent loves. It's the type of high-drama, "what would you do?" scenario that permeated action movies in the '80s and '90s, and it looks like this could be a fun way to kill a...

Carry-On centers on an inexperienced Tsa agent (Egerton) who ends up in a battle of wits with a mysterious traveler (Bateman) after the stranger blackmails him into allowing a dangerous package onto a flight on Christmas Eve.

Collet-Serra (Black Adam, Jungle Cruise) helmed the movie from a script by T.J. Fixman. Dylan Clark produces the film, while executive producers on the project include Collet-Serra, Holly Bario, Brian Williams, Seth William Meier and Scott Greenberg.

After getting sucked into the Dwayne Johnson abyss of tentpole filmmaking, Jaume Collet-Serra is getting back to what he knows best: thrillingly calibrated B-movies. Next spring will see the theatrical release of his Danielle Deadwyler-led horror thriller The Woman in the Yard, but first he’s teamed with Netflix for Carry-On.
Returning to the aviation-centered thriller after Non-Stop, his latest film follows a young Tsa agent as he fights to outsmart a mysterious traveler who blackmails him into letting a dangerous package slip onto a Christmas Eve flight. Written by T.J. Fixman (the Ratchet & Clank video games) and Michael Green, Carry-On stars Taron Egerton and Jason Bateman.
Ahead of a December 13 release on Netflix, see the trailer below.

We’ll say it once, and we’ll say it again: Spanish filmmaker Jaume Collet-Serra has never met a transportation thriller that he didn’t love. He’s directed “Non-Stop” with Liam Neeson, about a Federal Air Marshal who must find the killer on an international flight from New York to London; he’s directed “The Commute,” staring Neeson, again, of course, about a man unwittingly recruited into a murder conspiracy after meeting a mysterious woman while on his daily train commute, and sure he’s dipped and detoured, “Jungle Cruise” (2021) and “Black Adam” (2022).

Better fasten your seat belts and return your tray tables to their upright positions, because we’ve got some new Carry-On cast members coming in for a landing: Joining Taron Egerton and Jason Bateman in the airport Christmas thriller are Sofia Carson and Danielle Deadwyler.
Carry-On tells the story of Tsa agent Ethan (Egerton), who’s blackmailed into letting a dangerous package get through security on a packed Christmas flight. There’s no word yet on who Carson and Deadwyler will be playing, but we hope they’re ready for some unexpected turbulence.
Carson is coming off a summer spent burning up our screens in the hit romantic drama Purple Hearts, but you might also recognize her from dance dramedy Feel the Beator her recurring role as the Evil Queen’s daughter in the Descendants films. Kamala Harris’ media whirlwind of the past few days may not move the needle much in the tight race against Donald Trump.
Still, in all of the VP’s sit-downs this past week, a very Bill Clinton moment from last’s night Univision town hall might prove the most memorable in capturing voters’ attention.
“She connected, she humanized herself with the way she listened more and spoke less with that poor woman,” a top Hollywood publicist says of Harris’ interaction with a sobbing Ivett Castillo, who told Harris and viewers of the Enrique Acevedo-moderated primetime event of the death of her undocumented mother six weeks ago and the shadows that “subgroup of immigrants” live in.
“The viral moment, when the vice president went over to her after the town hall was over, that’s more important that anything else, anything that was said last night,” the publicist said.

In an industry saturated with superhero movies, Hancock is perhaps the weirdest of them all, and Charlize Theron, for one, is proud to be its star. With an abundance of projects that range from epic (Avengers: Endgame) to vicious (The Dark Knight), from disturbing (The Boys) to hilarious (Deadpool), from solemn (Joker) to cringeworthy (Batman & Robin), there exists a space for films outside Marvel and DC for films like The Crow and Kick-Ass to thrive without getting stampeded on by the comic book industry.

You might have to wait a while to get an appointment with Lindsey Ferrentino — her diary is looking pretty packed.
The playwright and screenwriter has become one of Hollywood’s most in-demand creatives and is, at this very moment, writing a staggering five films for Netflix, including an adaptation of a book by celebrated fantasy author Rebecca Yarros.
The Florida-born Ferrentino, 36, sat down for coffee with THR in sunny central London to discuss her extensive slate of projects on the horizon. On Thursday, her newest production, The Fear of 13, opens on the city’s West End with Adrien Brody in the lead. It tells the true story of Nick Yarris, who spent 22 years on death row before his exoneration.
The show is based on a 2015 documentary by filmmaker David Sington. Adapted for the stage by Ferrentino, tickets at the 251-seat Donmar Warehouse in Covent Garden sold out in two hours.

Few television characters played by the same actor are as different as Walter White from "Breaking Bad" and Hal Wilkerson from "Malcolm in the Middle," both of whom were portrayed by Bryan Cranston. Hal is a happy-go-lucky dork who doesn't really raise his five sons so much as he grows up alongside them, while Walt is a narcissistic egomaniac who goes from high school chemistry teacher to methamphetamine kingpin. In fact, the characters are so different that executives at AMC originally didn't think Cranston could portray Walt after seeing him shave his whole body as Hal. It's understandable that they might have their doubts because Hal is so very, very silly, but Cranston is also an incredible actor with stupendous range.
A few nervous execs weren't the only thing that nearly stopped Cranston from playing Walt, either. On an episode of the podcast "SmartLess," hosted by Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes,...

Shawn and Serena Levy have found their place with A Sense of Home.
The couple will be honored at the nonprofit’s fourth annual gala, set to take place at the L.A. home of Ted Sarandos and Nicole Avant on Oct. 24. The Levys are longtime champions of the organization, which works to prevent homelessness by creating first homes and a community for youth aging out of the foster care system. Their support is said to have been vital in furthering A Sense of Home’s work.
In a joint statement, the Levys said it’s an honor to be acknowledged for their support “but it is even more of an honor” to contribute to A Sense of Home’s mission and the lives changed by its work, led by founder and CEO Georgie Smith.
“Our involvement with A Sense of Home for close to a decade now has been...

Dr. Crane thinks that he is getting a new life but his plans are interrupted when his father moves in with him. The comedy of the series came from the highly dysfunctional relationship between Frasier and his father Niles Crane. Frasier provided laughter to its audience for 11 eleven brilliant seasons and ended its run in 2004. Eighteen years later we go a great revival and new life for Frasier Crane on Paramount+ with him living with his son. So, if you loved the cringe comedy and compelling characters in the original and the new revival...

The 71st Primetime Emmys were held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on September 22nd, 2019. While it was a big night for shows like “Game of Thrones,” “Fleabag,” and “Chernobyl” in their respective genre fields, there were a fair amount of surprises that the Gold Derby odds didn’t predict. Perhaps the biggest shock of the night was Jason Bateman winning Best Drama Directing for “Ozark’s” season two premiere, “Reparations.” How was he able to overcome his sixth place odds and win his first Emmy for directing?
When the nominations were announced on July 16th, 2019, “Game of Thrones” led the drama field with 32 bids for its eighth and final season. It was followed by “Better Call Saul,” “Killing Eve,” “Ozark” and “This Is Us,” all earning 9 noms each. “Game of Thrones” was touted to handily win its fourth Drama Series Emmy as well as its third for directing.
