Explicit in emotional subject matter, the GIRLSTORIES trilogy reveals a diversity of problems adolescent females have in society when faced with misunderstood mental health issues. Untreated clinical depression, body dysmorphic disorder and battered spouse syndrome are some study points visited by the filmmaker and clinical social worker Joey Huertas. GIRLSTORIES doubles as an examination of the plight of the U.S. educational system, and the failing effects that budgetary cuts are having on Creative Arts and Special Educational programming for our kids. GIRLSTORIES explores the fine line where conventional television narrative and unconventional experimental storytelling devices intersect. PIXELVISION, OPTICAL PRINTING, SUPER 8mm, SURVEILLANCE, INFRA-RED 35mm PHOTOGRAPHY are some of the devices used to collide against three very moving and intimate adolescent faux narratives. GIRLSTORIES will premiere in 2011, before being released on DVD, museums and digital platform viewing. The series has been overwhelmingly well received at select theatrical private screenings as individual short films, which have become events and experiences in themselves, provoking debate within the shared audience environment.
