The Flash: Cause and XS (2019)
Much better episode than last week, but...
The Flash has never been better when it deals with time matters. Temporal distortions, travels to the past and future, temporal duplicates and how these phenomena impact the timelines of human beings, this is what make both the comics and this show so special and fascinating. From this point of view, this episode has not failed and stays faithful to its roots. I would definitely love to see more like this one.
That being said, we watched another problematic issue: the writers have given up to both accuracy and consistency! Nora has returned so many times in the past, saved one by one the characters from certain death, but surprisingly never once it affected the timeline. While Barry only once saved his mother from death and created Flashpoint with the dramatic consequences that we witnessed in the season 3. So what is the logic there? I wish at least there was a bit of an explanation to this. Like Eobard Thawne finding a way of returning to the past without changing the timeline thanks to the timecodes Nora sent to him in the future or something like that. But it does not seem to be the case and we will probably never get an answer.
Blindspot: Check Your Ed (2019)
Blindspot Schizophrenic Direction...
It seems that Jane is not the only person to be struggling with vacillation and indecisiveness. Writers created this episode with the aim of resolving the internal conflict between Jane and Remi, but this decision put an end to what was supposed to be a surprising change of direction with Jaime Alexander's character and, thanks to it, a promising new season.
My interest in season four was all about Jane Doe's return to her previous persona as Remi. It would have been a brilliant idea to see Jaime Alexander portraying this character, but throughout the whole season and maybe closing the show in a dramatic fashion with several possible betrayals and deaths of main characters. It would have been interesting to see how far Remi would have been with her plan to reenact Sandstorm and to which end this project would have led. But now it is too late. This plan has been scrapped and now the show goes backward... The only reason for watching Blindspot now is to see if Jane Doe will die or find a cure, but the answer seems pretty obvious considering the risk taken by writers has been eventually minimal.
The Flash: Goldfaced (2019)
A laser game episode...
Another episode of The Flash which sounds like a waste of time. It brings almost nothing new to the main storyline of this season. It is badly written to say the least.
Iris stabbing Cicada with a knife looks not believable and makes no sense at all. Cicada was portrayed as invincible since the beginning of the season and now looks weaker than ever...
The assembly with Sherloque Wells' ex-wives is no better than a soap opera. The introduction of comic elements is irrevelant again and starts to be really annoying in this tv show. It also brings lot of paradoxes. Curiously, Eobard Thawne who has minutes to live finds plenty of time to advice Nora how to entertain Sherloque with a love romance...
The Flash and Elongated Man fighting Goldface with laser guns and the way they defeated him look like a bad video game. We have yet to see this season how The Flash's powers will evolve, what kind of new transformations or abilities he will acquire through his confrontations with villains. Instead the producers decide here to strip him of his powers and there are too many episodes where the Flash uses the same power again and again like he has reached his own limits.
This show has become too family friendly up to the point that it lost a good part of its dramatic intensity and its interest all together. The first three seasons were the most interesting by a large margin. I wish the show returns to its old roots.
