The Diplomat (2023)
How did it get such a High Rating?!
I love political dramas, noticed it on Netflix and decided to give it a go, especially as it has such a good rating.
Well, I'm fairly disappointed. It's watchable. It's not utterly bad. But It's rather dull and boring. And I just don't get how did it get such a high rating?
Whole series is about figuring out who attacked UK aircraft carrier, keep pointing fingers in different directions and planning the response, also, throwing in some marriage conflict.
I also not fond of Kerri Russels performance. She's supposed to be experienced diplomat, about to become a VP. But she looks more like a hectic and panicking assistant. David Gyasi and Rufus Sewell had more credibility in the role.
Only Murders in the Building (2021)
Loved it! Great show!
My first attempt to watch it was over a a year ago. I watched the translated version though and I hated it. I couldn't even finish the first episode.
Now I noticed it on the Disney+ and decided to give it another chance, this time with no translation.
OMG! It made such a difference! The irony, the jokes, the characters. I loved all of that. And being a fan of the detectives and the comedies, it just made a perfect mixture for me of both. I watched it with a smile on my face. I loved the characters and their chemistry. I loved the twists and turns of the plot. Absolutely loved it!
Now I will be eagerly wait to the season 3 :)
The Little Mermaid (2023)
Not Bad Not Great
Just watched the movie in 3D. My daughter loved it and wants to watch it again.
As for me I have mixed feelings about it. It's not bad but not great either. I did like how colorful the movie is, the visuals were also amazing and the atmosphere was cheerfully positive. I also liked how carefully and seemingly with love they recreated beloved characters on the screen.
However, I was not not fond of Halle's performance as Ariel. She is very beautiful and charming. But I had a feeling that she was trying so hard to mirror animated Ariel that she didn't feel her personality. Ariel is courageous, adventurous and fearless and not a shy, naive little girl. Also I felt as she wasn't as confident in the role, there was no presence on the screen... as if she is too shy of the role big as this.. In terms of the singing, she has an amazing voice, but I didn't understand why would she would sing so many consonants... it just ruined the songs for me, especially Part Of Your World. Was it done deliberately!? Well, I didn't get it.
I also didn't understand the need to give additional information like Prince Eric is adopted son and Ursula and Triton are siblings. What does it do the plot? Basically nothing. Then why do we need to know it? Or that Ariel forgot that she needs to kiss a Prince? So what? She stills loves him and wants to kiss him....
The rest of the characters also try to stick to the originals. All are lovable. Flounder got really small, I like Sebastian, he was very funny, Triton felt a bit "wooden".
Overall I had a pleasant and cheerful 2 hrs. Might go once again as my daughter asked for it. Maybe I will love it more after the second time. Who knows :)
Avatar: The Way of Water (2022)
Amazing visuals, but stretched and illogical story
When I heard negative reviews of the movie and saying that's way too long .... I was perplexed as I thought no way Avatar movie with it's visually amazing world and charismatic characters could be long! I loved the first Avatar and really wanted to dive into this magic world once again, the more, the longer the better!!!!
But here I am, just watched it in the theater ... And while I was sitting there and watching the movie I realized what people meant! There really could be too much of the Avatar, especially when the storyline is not that catchy. Don't get me wrong, the visuals are amazing, but I had a feeling that the directors focus was on the visuals, show more and show it in a more creative, visually beautiful way and unnecessary stretching this visuals shots and the movie as a result!
In regards to the story itself, I don't get it!!! To my understanding Jake Sully decides to leave (read abandon) HIS people in the middle of the war and run/hide to save his family??? And what about the responsibility of the leader of the people??? (I don't buy the they are safer without me justification! - they are still fighting, and he is the most skilled at war with the army people). Then he hides with water people and basically brings the war to them, threatening their own peace and existence ... and then at the end he decides to lead them to war???? I honestly don't get the logic!!!
House of Gucci (2021)
Really disappointed! With all the hype around it expected more!
It's a chaotic storytelling and if you are not familiar with the real story behind it (as I was) it's very hard to understand what's going on. I had to google the events and the history behind it to make some sense of the movie.
Also, while many critics praised the acting, especially Lady Gaga, I found it to be fake and staged. And Jared Leto looks more like a Joker than Paolo.
Hei$t: The Great Robbery of Brazil's Central Bank (2022)
Couldn't watch it because of the poor English translation
I can't believe that Netflix couldn't invest into a better English translation. Why would you layer English translation over the original Brazilian Portuguese??? Stopped watching it after few minutes cause It was really hard to focus on English then there's a simultaneous background voice going on!
Bad Vegan: Fame. Fraud. Fugitives. (2022)
It could have been told in one episode.
Very slow and boring story telling, that could have been told in one episode. Feels way to stretched. Story is very similar to The Tinder Swindler and the Puppet master stories.
Not worth the time.
Marry Me (2022)
A bit disappointing :(
I love Jennifer Lopez, but this film is such a cliche ... and even feels more like a music promotion than an actual movie. Moreover, the fact that Owen Wilson plays the same character over and over again in every movie makes this movie feel even more artificial, cliche and fake.
I'm very sorry for that, I wanted it to be a good movie ... but I have to say that I watched it till the end just out of respect to Jennifer :(
