Pulp Fiction (1994)

One of my favorites

I am not a huge fan of Tarantino, but I love Pulp Fiction. It is so unique and weird and it's so fun to watch. It's the type of movie that you feel compelled to watch again because you think you missed something. Although there are multiple character plots going on at once, it all feels very streamlined and easy to follow. One of my favorites.

Taxi Driver (1976)

Everything about Taxi Driver is excellent, but Robert De Niro has some of the best acting I've ever witnessed in it. It was so convincing and chilling that it kept the movie on track and made it great. He is the reason I will be re-watching Taxi Driver very soon.

Bonnie and Clyde (1967)

Iconic

This movie made Bonnie and Clyde a pop culture icon. The film's popularity is testament to the performance of its actors. It may be a poor translation from the real Bonnie and Clyde, but it is a quality action movie.

Notorious (1946)

Another Hitchcock Classic

The Wizard of Oz (1939)

Magical Experience

Wizard of Oz never gets old. It may have been released eight decades ago, but it could be released tomorrow and several people would still go to see it and they would enjoy it. The use of color in it was nearly revolutionary and it was done incredibly well for being the first of its kind. It is truly unique and a gem in cinema.

For a film released in 1950, it seemed to be very provocative in the way it displays the dark side of Hollywood. Of course, the writing and acting should also be noted as being exceptional. The plot is that of a classic film noir and I had no trouble following and I just wanted to know what happened next.

Orson Welles is celebrated in American cinema as one of the greatest filmmakers of all time, and Citizen Kane proves why. The perfection of the storytelling and the characters was a pleasure to watch. This movie is an educating experience for all filmmakers that wish to tell a compelling story.

Fantasia (1940)

Timeless Classic

I just watched this movie for the first time and I was amazed by the animation excellence. If I didn't know that Fantasia was made in 1940 I would have guessed it was made much more recently. I grew up watching Disney movies and this gave me a nostalgic feeling that put in a state of ecstasy. It was truly a cinematic milestone that everyone should watch and appreciate.

The Women (1939)

Hilarious

This was a hilarious movie. I honestly did not expect anything amazing from this for it being a 1939 movie with an all female cast, but I was pleasantly surprised by it. The stereotype of upper class women was a big part of the theme and it worked very well. The chaotic feel of everything kept me captivated and amused the entire time even if some scenes were a bit much. Overall I really enjoyed "The Women" and I would recommend it to anyone that likes old comedies.

Bringing Up Baby (1938)

Perfect Screwball Flick

Bringing Up Baby is a perfect screwball comedy because it is chaotic, fast-paced, and hilarious. The relationship between David and Susan is greatly complicated and captivating in a way that makes you feel bad for David while also routing for Susan. I would recommend this movie to anyone who needs to be introduced to screwball comedies.

King Kong (1933)

Excellent monster movie!

I remember watching the 2005 King Kong movie in the theater and not thinking much of it because it wasn't anything too special. However, watching the original makes me appreciate the idea of King Kong. Not only were the effects revolutionary, but the story and characters to go along with it were stellar. It takes the classic idea of a misunderstood monster and puts a more emotional twist on it. You feel for both the damsel in distress and the monster alike.

City Lights (1931)

The Tramp Does It Again

City Lights is a comedy-romance that excels in both respects. It starts off with a hilarious moment that got me laughing and the ending was a very heartfelt, romantic moment. The relationship between the Tramp and the rich man is one of misadventure and hilarity. On the other hand, his relationship with the blind girl begins with tragedy and ends with a beautiful conclusion.

Sherlock Jr. (1924)

Comedic and Creative

This movie took awhile to pick up, but once Sherlock's dream sequence began I was invested. The story of the world's greatest detective was comedic gold and very creative. However, I think the dream being more interesting took away from what was happening in reality. That being I thought the ending was still funny and I was happy for the protagonist. It was overall good film, but it took a quick minute to invest me.

The Circus (1928)

A Fun Silent Film

This is my first silent film and I was pleasantly surprised by it. I wasn't sure how I was going to like it, but I ended up really enjoying it. The humor seemed to be very ahead of it's time even though it was done it was all in black and white and the dialogue was only presented with intertitles. Although humor was at the forefront of this movie, it also had a compelling love interest, it had conflict, and the pacing was perfect. I can not think of negative aspect of "The Circus" that would deprive it of a perfect score from me.
