Bigfoot (2009)
HILARIOUS! Big Foot is Da Man!
I watched this on You Tube with ads and at first thought it was a documentary. Turns out it is a REALLY FUNNY FAMILY FILM. The 15yo hero, Geeky but Cute Percy tries to woo his love The Popular but Sweet Madison. In the process he stumbles upon Bigfoot and an offbeat friendship, fueled by Bigfoot Power Bars, begins.
The entire movie was so much fun and very watchable. The Highlights being The Abbott and Costello type duo that try to capture Bigfoot, of course. They are both clumsy and comedic as they try to trap Mr. Foot. Angie Everhart was also a big surprise as the "mom".
The acting, stunts and ending are really watchable for any age especially children, teens, and grandparents.
Whoever watches this movie and does not appreciate the tongue-in-cheek humor also probably does not believe in Bigfoot!
Jusqu'au déclin (2020)
No Zombies...but I LOVED IT!!!
I had to give this film a 10 to boost it's ridiculously low score. I've seen many, many thrillers in my day and this was really EXCELLENT. There were no Zombiez, no CGI, no flying superheroes, but it did a great job of wanting The Villian to die. The Heroes fought valiantly and the setting vast & creepy.
Really worth watching!!!!! Two thumbs up!
Stowaway (2021)
HUH??? Like a Bottle of Flat Seltzer.
After watching The Trailer and seeing the Stellar Cast, I had such HIGH HOPES for this film. Wonderful scenery and excellent acting plus a mind-boggling premise keep The Viewer engaged. But the entire story builds up and just seems to fall FLAT like an opened bottle of Seltzer. There doesn't even seem to be any rhyme or reason as to how the Life and Death dilemma is solved.
Yes, it is a very calm movie with some great soundtrack in the back. So watch it for these reasons. But if you are expecting a Big Bang or some life altering resolution, don't hold your breathe! Ha ha.
Booksmart (2019)
Beanie, Beanie, Beanie...WTF???
I endured this movie to the end only because I heard a great and hopeful interview with Olivia Wilde on NPR and because Beanie Feldstein was wonderful in The NYC Broadway Production of "Hello Dolly". Also as a real Booksmart kid myself, I thought I could identify with these twerps...UGH. All I learned is that studying gets you nowhere (FALSE) and that Booksmart kids cannot express themselves without resorting to at least three F Bombs per sentence (FALSE) Save yourself and go read a good book instead!!!
Homecoming (2018)
Janelle Monáe is Mesmerizing
I watched Season 2 FIRST because I loved Monáe's performance in "Hidden Figures". I had never heard of this show and had no idea what to expect. From the very first moments, Monáe's performance was mesmerizing. She is so believable and we really got get into her head and mental confusion. At first I thought this would be another variation of "Lost" with endless plot twists and new characters. But this series ended neatly in the last episode while still leaving a crack open for a possible Season 3. The only reason why I gave this a 9 is due to the overuse of the F Bombs which really did not have to be exploded so often. I am now going to watch Season 1 and hope there is a next season.
2012 (2009)
Name the Plagiarized Line!
I always thought Cary Grant in "North by Northwest" was the only hero who could outrun a plane and keep his shirt sparkly white, but clearly "2012" proves me wrong. When Cusack leaps on the plane he yelps, "We are going to need a bigger boat...er...plane." And so continues the badly misplaced, plagiarized lines/scenes/actions/ideas from the truly great films. It would be a fun film exercise to name every great movie that this disaster of a film has copied and botched. If you manage to survive this disaster film, I highly recommend that you decompress and restore your film sanity by watching a Hitchcock or Spielberg Film.
The Twelve Days of Christmas Eve (2004)
QUIRKY FUN...had to give it a 10...
...to offset all The Scrooges who gave it less than 4 Stars. OK, so it's Groundhog Day Goes Christmas, but it still is so much FUN. The main character is very believable as a Workaholic Dad and without giving any spoilers, his attempts to win over his son are hilarious. The movie also has a cute final ending with a cliched surprise...but sill FUN. Stop pointing a HUGE FINGER at all the flaws and just enjoy the show...with Family of course!
Holiday Engagement (2011)
EXTRA FEEL GOOD Rom-Com with a CUTE Doggy too!
OK, so this isn't an Oscar Worthy film, but I had to give it a "10" to offset the horrible Scrooges who gave it "1" star. The premise of hiring a fake fiancée to replace your awful ex-fiancée is far-fetched and predictably the two leads do fall in love, but what do you expect for a Christmas Romance? I especially enjoyed sidekick Edi Patterson as the zany, but rational best friend and Shelley Long as the over doting mom. Sure, there were some wacky stereotypes, like Surfer Dude, but the overall effect was fun and super feel good. And who wants to feel bad during the holidays anyway?
Christmas in the Wild (2019)
Wonderful, heartwarming and REALLY Down to Earth!
As someone who has lived in The REAL Wild and delayed following her own passions, I watched this movie thinking it would just be a little holiday kitsch. It started out as a cross between "How Stella Got Her Groove Back" and "Out of Africa" and a mish-mash of other Gorgeous Divorceé meets Gorgeous Widower movies. But as the movie progressed, it developed some wonderful fresh lines, funny innuendos and a true message about frivolous spending on pets as "designer toys" vs saving real wildlife and the true threat of poachers. Yes, there was much predictability (like all the names beginning with K: Kira, Kirk, Kate.) Yes, there were contrived scenes (Don't want to give spoilers!) Yes, there were clichés ("Ah, I see we both are surrounded by Wild Life.") But the overall effect, combined with gorgeous scenery and excellent acting make this a WONDERFUL must see holiday film which brings the message of following one's true path to vivid intensity. All hail, the mighty elephant!
Law & Order: Judge Dread (2001)
"Are you gonna need those?" 😄
I've watched EVERY episode of L&O and this is one of my (MANY) favorites. Someone attempts to assassinate a Draconian Judge aka BICH and person who orders the hit is a complete surprise. Green and Briscoe track down all The Usual Suspects and the Investigation zig zags until they fit the pieces together in under 30mins, of course. My favorite scene is the final "verbal" catfight between Judge Dread and The Manhattan DA...2 very powerful women with very powerful ideations and ethics. It's The Enforcer vs The Compromiser....who is correct? You be The Judge.
My Big Fat Fabulous Life (2015)
HUH? Pointless & Annoying
I don't get it? I was only able to watch about 20min of this show before I had to turn it off. All I remembered is an extremely overweight woman whining & complaining about how miserable (not fabulous) her life is. Other shows highlight people who have a congenital or inherited conditions and use courage & tenacity to overcome their problems. Where is the value of crying over a treatable problem? Do we really need another show in America about a spoiled whiney brat where Food Insecurity, Obesity & Diabetes are National Epidemics?
Dr Pimple Popper (2018)
Heartwarming Show where Courage & Beauty are Skin Deep
At first I thought this might be just another gimmicky, sensational reality show. NOT the case! Patients come to Dr. Sandra Lee with the most extreme dermatalogical abnormalities that hinder & destroy their lives. These are ordinary human beings with extraordinary challenges that in years past would have destroyed their lives or relegated them to a colony of "lepers". Many are fearful of operations, have no insurance or just don't know where to turn. Enter Dr. Lee-an experienced doctor with wonderful bedside manner. She is not fearful of the most disfiguring skin condition and her caring manner helps her patients feel human again. She uses the latest techniques at her disposal to fix conditions as best as possible.
This is the part where people who cannot stand needles, medical fluids or ugly conditions should shut off the show. But for the rest of the audience who either have some medical training or just enjoy seeing humans regain their dignity, this is a wonderful show.
People who have "normal" skin can no longer take their health for granted. They sometimes complain about the tiniest imperfections, This program shows how lucky are people who simply have "non-malignant" skin.
