Zombie Bloodbath (1993)
Zombie Bloodbath was fun - but I am Noticing a trend here
Zombie Bloodbath is a movie made by zombie fans for zombie fans with a true love of the Horror genre. As I understand it from the commentary and things I have read, it was made during the huge Midwest flood of 1993 when half of Missouri was underwater. Buildings were under water. cars and houses were underwater. One article said that zombies and the crew from this movie would help sandbag the river after shooting each day. The fact this movie got made at all is a miracle. It is like a huge mashing of every zombie movie ever made put through a Troma filter. It is a party movie to enjoy with friends who like loads of splatter and goofy characters. And it is fast paced and energetic and really funny.
A toxic spill accident in a nuclear power facility causes people to melt down or turn into zombies. The local Government covers it up, tears down the factory and builds houses over it. Some ground shifting (?) causes a cave opening to develop and some new residents find the cave and unleash the undead on the newly built community. From there it just gets crazy and gory and fun.
I have read these reviews on here a few times. And it seems obvious to me that the same person attacked this fun little movie three times as a different reviewer, using fake names. They use the same words and sentences. Zombie Bloodbath is cheap. It is raw. It has some bad acting. So does half the movies made. There is much much WORSE out there than this fun movie. If you hate this film so much, don't buy it. There is no need for personal attacks and to call the crew or cast "Trailer Trash." And it is obvious you are not from Australia or England. It is just upsetting that this great service, the IMDb does not catch people using it just to trash others. There are bad reviews and good reviews, and I don't mind those. I give both bad and good reviews myself. But it is painfully obvious that some fool just wants to use this forum to personally attack the director of this movie. Sad.
Some of these so called "Reviewers" even basically sue their "review" just to promote their own movies. One called this film Boring - well, love it or hate it, one thing you can NEVER say about this film is that it is boring. It moves fast and never has a dull spot.
Oh and this reviewer from The Netherlands??? Um - LIAR. You tried to post this same review at Amazon and it got yanked there. The SAME review only it said it was from Missouri.
This nonsense HAS to stop. Love it or Hate it - give it a real review or type nothing. It is obvious you have not seen the films.
But for the record, I have and though this one is not nearly the best that I have seen, it is far from the worst. And even the worst I would give an actual REVOEW and would not attack the director personally.
Hope this review helps some people see through the stupidity going on here.
The Messengers (2007)
Full of jumps, jolts and a case of the creepies
Yes, I watched The Eye and found that the Pang Brothers were indeed two very talented people to watch in film. I eagerly found their back catalogue of movies and bought them. I waited for them to get noticed by smart studios here in the USA. Well, finally here they are! It took Sam Raimi once again to bring Asian talent to the US and though the film has it's share of flaws and some clumsy moments, overall it is a solid American Debut.
To tell much would be to give away the story. I will just say it has to do with Ghosts and that they are scary, but there are some clever twists and turns along the way and I truly think that most audiences will enjoy the film.
It is very well made as well. Visually striking and it has a cool look without resorting the the "film bleaching" format of so many movies now.
Rush out and see it in a theater - and tell them to crank it loud!
Smokin' Aces (2006)
It wants to be Tarantino and almost succeeds!
The film was fun but seemed like I had seen it all before. For the talent involved, I felt it should have been more. But it is like a cartoon come to life... fun and it moves fast, if not always coherent, it is at least never dull! I am kind of tired of the "look" that is happening right now in Hollywood. Everything is close-ups, shaky cameras and fast edits. I am not sure why, but this has become the norm. This one is not quite as bad as others have been, but far too many times I had to really strain to follow what was happening due to the editing. It is my hope that these issues are ironed out in future movies. The acting was over the top as you could predict, and the action was pretty good other than CGI enhancements. I am sure there are others out there that miss movies before CGI. It needs to stop. now.
Zombie Bloodbath 2 (1995)
Zombies and Madmen
Finding this one was not as easy as I hoped it would be, but I did track it down and threw it into the VCR, ready for some splatter. And the coolest thing about it is I was not disappointed. It seems that some newer zombie films have not been doing the blood and guts thing very well. This one does. It was a but confusing at first, trying to figure out what was going on and why. But when the middle hits and the characters all come together, the loose ends are tied up and things made sense pretty well. It had zombies and killers and convicts and a reanimated scarecrow.
Now is the movie any good? It was well made, I think. Artistic even. care was taken and it shows. The people who made this film worked hard and it shows. The acting has improved, the effects and editing have all improved. But most of all. I was never bored. I was entertained. I had a lot of fun. And isn't that all we really should ask from a movie with such a low budget?
OK, I have read a couple of really foul, mean spirited reviews for this little movie that make no sense. First of all, you should not use this place as a forum to ATTACK a person for no good reason. It's a MOVIE. No one forced you to watch it. Some people are just here to be jerks. But there are rules and maybe the IMDb should watch some of these things closer. I have seen MUCH worse than this film. But not many zero budget ones are better. And just because you don't like the work of a director does not give a person the right to assault them verbally. Todd Sheets makes low budget Horror flicks. His body of work speaks volumes to his dedication to Horror movies and the progress as an artist from one to the next is on the screen. Where it counts.
The Witching (1993)
Not sure what went wrong
The script seemed pretty good from what I got out of it. The effects seemed to work in that hokey low budget way. It was made waaaay before morphing and cgi was the norm but has a bit of both. The acting is all over the map. The direction poor and there is no blood or gore. Todd Sheets is one of my favorite zero budget guys, but I could tell right away that though he is listed as producer, he did not have anything to do with this. No gore was the first giveaway. The camera work is horrible. No cool lighting. It is slow paced too. Love Todd's films or hate them, they are fast paced and never dull. And bloody. This one wants to be good. It has good ideas. It is in the execution that it suffers. Bad sound and music does not help. A few good actors struggle to carry a film that refuses to come to life. It's almost a bad David Decoteau movie, only no nudity. Nothing to keep me awake, really.
Shaolin Dolemite (1999)
Shaolin what?
This one is not what I wanted. It has Rudy, but his footage appears to have been shot on video and spliced into an old Karate movie from 1977. It does not match. At all. I was very upset by this. Come on Rudy, you can do better. Not much plot, just Rudy walking around and talking a bit and then some old footage with very bad dubbing and silly fights. Rudy is always fun to watch and I understand that it may not be his fault, but I have liked most of his films so far, and he should not use the Dolemite name if it is not a Dolemite film. watch Human Tornado again instead. Or watch Violent New Breed for a great part that Rudy really seems to enjoy.
Zombiegeddon (2003)
What was this?
First fo all, I am a huge Zombie fan. I read that this one was shot in Kansas, and almost got it confused with the far superior Zombie Bloodbath 3: Zombie Armageddon, also shot in the Kansas area. I am sure these film-makers knew they were stealing the title as Zombie Armageddon was made three years before this film, maybe four. So I was a bit confused at first, thinking it may be a simply retitle of a film I already had.
I was wrong. This one is a zero budget effort with some good make-up and a few good ideas that somehow goes horribly wrong. Ari Bavel I see was also in this film. He was in Zombie Armageddon too!!! Now I KNOW the people behind this film knew of the other film. Nothing like a rip off. But again, I wanted to give it a chance. I still have no idea what I watched. No plot really. Some bad cops do bad things and zombies show up. There's a few seconds of OK gore and tones of Cameos by B-Movie vets. I sent an e-mail to Ed Neal asking WHY and he said he was suckered. I have no idea what that means but it's a waste. For some reason Tom Savini shows up for 3 seconds to play Jesus!! Again, no idea what it's about and all the horror Cameos in the world does not make up for the fact that it smells like bad fish - el stinko. Maybe they should have used more energy on a script or making a film rather than driving back and forth to an airport and paying for all the Cameos. Just not a good film, it has long stretches of dull talking and bad composition and lighting. I urge more people to take longer on the script. It really does make a difference. And never bore an audience.
It opens with the worst director that is allowed a budget to work with in my memory, Uwe Boll (House Of The Dead) telling us how bad this movie stinks. Nice intro. And if anyone should know, Uwe should know.
Bloodletting (1997)
Good Idea, dull execution
The problem with so many zero budget films is that they really spend too much time on talking. Too talky equals dull. Scenes of talking heads that go on forever pretty much ruin many low budget efforts. this one is no exception. It feels like the author thinks he has something important to say so he makes sure every member of the cast says it. For an hour and a half. Talk and talk and then kill a person and talk while doing it and then talk some more. The film wants to be edgy. A nd shocking. And it may have worked, if I had not been talked to sleep. The ultimate sin for any movie is to bore an audience. This one has a budget against it. Uneven acting. Bad lighting. But to bore me, now THAT is the final straw. I love low budget films. I like zero budget films like films by Todd Sheets, Mark Polonia, JR Bookwalter and more. But this one is not able to sustain tension, suspense or interest. The direction is flat and takes no chances and the ideas behind the film deserve more. Watch natural Born Killers again instead.
Masters of Horror: Imprint (2006)
Artful, beautiful and shocking
Thsi one has something for all of us... a best of for true Horror fans and fans of Miike's work... yet it's clear to me that the film should have been shot in the original language, not English. It is troubling that the film was not allowed this luxury. Otherwise, it is powerful and disturbing and will stay with you long after the credits roll. New Mothers, do NOT watch this film. It packs more in 60 minutes than many films do in 2 hours. Amazing. It is also upsetting that out of all the Masters Of Horror episodes, this one was singled out and banned from Showtime. Clearly an anti-Asian attack on this incredible piece of work.
Zombie Bloodbath 3: Zombie Armageddon (2000)
Great film with a surprising twist or two
I am not sure why people come here and simply INSULT the people who make the films. One of the reviews on here is just mean spirited and nasty and there is no need for it. To attack someone personally is ridiculous. It's a movie, and in my opinion a damned good one. I for one want these people to grab any camera they can and keep making movies. This one is fun, wildly energetic and gory. Good use of simple CGI effects (this was made before so many PC movies were being done) and some amazing camera-work and lighting really bring this one up a notch or two from other no budget efforts. This movie is NOT to be confused with Zombiegeddon - also known as Zombie Armageddon and shot by people AFTER this movie was done (three years after) from the same general area in Kansas. Oh, and that movie was awful.
This movie is kind of like an undead tribute to the Breakfast Club only with new twists and turns and I really never knew where it would go next. The acting is a tad uneven, with some good acting tossed in along some campy, bad acting. There's a few cameos from popular B-Movie vets and a standout performance from Abe Dyer. You will probably love this one as much as I do if you like fun party movies. Zombies ahoy!
