Perfect Days (2023)

A perfect film
17 April 2024
Such an unusual movie. There is little dialogue, when people speak they switch between English and Japanese in a such a way that you aren't really aware that you are watching a foreign film (for those who aren't Japanese) the cinema at the end was completely silent, something that happens rarely in my experience and is a sign of the impact it made on the audience. Small things happen, though you sense that behind them are very large things in this man's life. A beautiful beautiful movie extraordinary acting from the main character. In fact I intend to see it again soon and get friends to see it as well.

It just keeps going on and on...
6 April 2024
The only saving grace in this heap of tripe is some great action scenes.

It started well and had some good characters, but the script was just a shocker. Made little sense, kept flip flopping between comedy and tragedy , every time it looked like finally ending it switched around again to move off in another direction.

Ralph Fiennes is a very good actor, lord alone knows why he got involved in this disaster, I can only think that he needed the money.

But it was a very wet weekend, and no where to go. So I guess it gave us something to watch . I don't know what its actual running time was, but it must be close to 3 hours.

Amazingly different movie
3 February 2023
The most unusual movie I have seen, I think. Yes, it is long, but so worth taking it through to the end. Visually it is spectacular, the story is constantly in motion, the special effects amazing. A difficult movie to explain, an element of science fiction, but ultimately a movie about the human heart. If there is a flaw,it is that it is really very, very long, like all modern movies the makers don't seem to understand that sometimes less is more, we actually paused an hour and a half in, and went back to watch the last hour a few weeks later, not sure I could have watched it at the cinema. But ultimately a really worthwhile movie.

Underrated
26 January 2023
I really enjoyed this movie. It comes under the heading of intelligent romantic comedy, a rare category indeed. It is sumptuously filmed, the colours are beautiful, particularly during the trip to Lahore. The movie considers what is important in a marriage, the weighting of love against family commitment. Emma Thompsons role isn't huge, but adds a lot of comedy. My usual gauge with a movie is whether it would hold up to a second viewing band I personally will see it again. The critics may not think much of it, but I think the moviegoers are going to love it, I think it will be in the cinemas for a while.

Ultimately disappointing
31 December 2021
Some great action scenes, particularly before the titles. But a very ordinary script. Far too long, they could have lost half an hour at least and made a better movie. Rami Malek was very underused, as the main villain he had very little screen time. Daniel Craig had a much better farewell in the last movie. A big waste of celluloid as far as I'm concerned, felt like they were just trying things out for the new Bond.

Star is amazing but...
30 May 2019
The production values are terrific and Egerton is amazing. The music is just wonderful. But what spoilt it for me was the point in the middle where I just felt it was all about all the people who'd been mean to Elton. With Bohemian Rhapsody you fell in love with Freddie, who obviously adored what he did. But not the same feeling at all with this one

Laugh out loud funny
10 May 2019
So rare to be in a theatre where people are actually laughing at a comedy. This movie is hysterical! Just pure fun from start to finish. I loved the original but the musical version is just so much better. Even Will Ferrell does a great job (not my favourite actor)

A little gem

I didn't know much about this movie before I went. It was very engaging and very funny, with very appealing characters. Well worth a look

Very disappointing
28 April 2019
I was looking forward to this movie but it really didn't deliver. I found myself unable to care about any of the characters who all seemed very 2 dimensional. A great waste of emma Thompson's ability

Best bit is Lady Gaga's voice
11 November 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Of course you know what will happen, because this is the 4th version of this movie. But, as my daughter said (and she HATED this movie with a passion) nothing happens, then he dies. (And I don't think that is a spoiler, given it is the 4th version.

Both the stars have great songs, and do great at singing them, but it is really a pretty interdependent relationship, not my idea of a great love story.

Did I enjoy it? It was OK- but I wouldn't bother seeing it a second time.

Not too many movies where the audience claps at the end, but this is one of them
11 November 2018
And then I'll buy the DVD!

Yes, I'm a Queen Fan- but at least 2 of the people who came with me the second time weren't, and still loved this movie. Is it a bit formulaic? It's a biopic, of course it is! But it is so full of humanity- it is just fun! As so many others have said, Rami Malek is amazing- I can see awards coming for this portrayal of Freddie. All the other actors are great too, many of them with an eerie physical similarity to the people they play.

Seen it twice, planning on a third time, and this is one I have to own
