Delta (2008)
unfinished movie but still beautiful
The main actor died half way through the movie. Thus a film which was supposed to be about revenge must be changed into a film about love. The ending was i felt a little weak maybe because of this.
But still despite this the scenery was superb. The sounds and immenseness of the delta. The tough primitive life of the folk. The ignorance the drink. The subject was real.
That brothers and sisters who have never met and the meet can form strong sexual bonds is well known. This subject is covered well here.
A couple who where hurting no one are destroyed by the dark forces of bigotry and violence.
Mouchette (1967)
A young girl is shunned and rejected in small village in France.
A beautiful film with superb photography. The story of a young girl who has to care for a dying mother in a small village in France.
She is shunned by everyone. She is raped and used and rejected.
But her simple innocence and beauty shines through. It is like Fat Girl a film without much faith in humanity without hope. The scenes of the poacher and the hunter the girl lost in the woods in the storm are breathtaking.
The bullying by her school teacher and followed by her beautiful singing where great. Her simple goodness and total exclusion is heart wrenching.
The ending like in Fat Girl is shocking but fitting. Good film.
Pretty Baby (1978)
A preteen prostitute and her abuse in New Orleans.
A film of a young girl who lives in a bordello and becomes a prostitute. Set in New Orleans the film is suitable filled with jazz music. The seedy atmosphere and the decadent opium smoking madam are superb.
Brook shield his as beautiful as ever. I don't know how this film got past the censor especially the naked shots. The auction scene is bizarre and sordid.
Brook forms a relationship with a pedophile who "rescues her". The film shows there relationship and conflicts. I think it shows a reality that existed and still exists today. Well worth seeing.
The age difference shows in that she is still a child and wants to play rather than behave like an adult.
À ma soeur! (2001)
A tale of seduction of a young Lolita followed by heartbreak and a shocking climax.
I really liked this one. It was so true to life. People concerned only about themselves. No sympathy for another. The cold harshness of reality.
The film begins with a bet over who will lose there virginity first Elena 15 or Anais 12. Elena wants it to be someone who lover her Anais someone who doesn't care because he will only leave her anyway.
The seduction of the 15 year old Elena while her sister Anais 12 listens is believable. Because she wont let him take her virginity the first night he persuades her to let him take her anal instead. Her screams of pain and his lustful gasps fill the room.
Eventually he takes her and leaves her heartbroken.
The family ride back at night. The feeling of emptiness of life. The photography superb. Builds up for the final climax which is very violent and shocking. The second sister gets her wish to have her virginity taken by someone who doesn't care about her.
I was speechless for two hours after watching this film. It stunned me. It was haunting.
Black Moon (1975)
A rather bizarre and silly film
I found some parts interesting. Especially the nature photography. But i found the plot and characters not interesting. The acting was as bad as it can get.
The film is supposedly over a battle between men and women. But one could easily also imagine Bosnia.
On the one hand a rural landscape where everything appears normal but on the other scenes of death and destruction. The long scenes in the bedroom of the ugly old lady bored me to distraction.
The hordes of naked children did give a bizarre aspect: but this is a film where nothing really seems to happen. A girl who is always running seeking but never seems to find.
Kids (1995)
The sex and lusts of kids in the USA. A world of emptiness drugs and random encounters.
Modern day existentialism? I don't know. The nihilistic drug and sex filled world of todays teens and preteens seems to be betrayed here in this voyeur trip into there world.
Maybe it is true there is nothing but sex and emptiness. People drift and float around without any purpose except copulation and drugs. A film without real plot about from the HIV infection of a young virgin from her first sexual encounter.
The rape scene of the same girl when she was unconscious from drugs was quite shocking but at the same time it seemed to fit into story somehow. Not a film to give one hope in humanity. But still a unique film and worth seeing.
The Pledge (2001)
A man so obsessed in his search for a child killer that he befriends a mother with child so he can use the child as bait for the killer.
Maybe its just me but i see this story a little differently from the other watchers.
This is a man so obsessed with his search for a child murderer that he befriends a woman with a child and uses the child as bait for the murderer. That he loves the child is irrelevant to the betrayal.
He allows the child to dress in red a color he knows the murderer likes. He even places a swing next to the road so that the murderer will see the child and talk to her. When eventually the weirdo he suspects is the killer stops and chats with her he allows the contact to continue instead of warning the child to ovoid him.
The overall movie was fantastic. Especially the photography. One felt the loneliness and vastness of the landscape hiding the grim secrets of the child killer.
The sense of loneliness and isolation as he drinks himself away where good. For a brief moment it looked like he had found happiness with the mother and her child until the moment of betrayal.
At the end he allows the child to be the bait in a sting operation to get the killer and doesn't even tell the mother. He is so obsessed with his pursuit for the killer he is prepared to risk the child.
What was also nice was the simple goodness of the child who believed the killer was a magician and something magical.
Also watching Nicholson alone in a boat fishing and just enjoying the vastness of nature where very good scenes indeed. The ending was unexpected and shocking. That Nicholson ends up a crazy drunk all alone is on himself to blame because of his betrayal to the child and the mother.
Nicholson always plays slightly seedy strange characters. I think he plays himself. Apart from the shining i don't think i've seen a bad movie from him. This one is well worth watching.
God's Lonely Man (1996)
A film over child prostitution, snuff and drug abuse. A tale of loneliness and chaos.
I find this film excellent. The depiction of Ernest's isolation and loneliness where haunting. Especially the scene where in order to feel something anything he cuts his own finger off.
The plot is similar to Taxi driver with an ending equally unclear. It appears that Ernest loses his scruples over Christiane being underage and ends up having a relationship with her. The scene where she has toothpaste smeared over her mouth at the end is very erotic. Heather McComb although 19 at the time played a very believable 14 year old.
The scene where Ernest takes revenge on the killer's of Christanes sister was effective. Overall a Lolita movie with perverse themes as snuff and peepshow and drug abuse. Child prostitution is also highlighted.
Overtoons of Christianne F. and Taxi driver.
Would like to know more about the directer Frank Von Zerneck Jr. It appears to be the only film he ever made. I wonder if he was as weird as his film.
Still i like weird Lolita films and this was a great one.
