In My Dreams (2014)
Somebody dreamed that architects build bridges instead of civil engineers
There are no spoilers in my review. Somebody must have dreamed that architects build bridges. That would be under the purview of civil engineers. In My Dreams is a very shallow simpleminded movie full of cliches. Do high school libraries really have stacks? Does a restaurant owner plop down a dessert in a glass copa without a liner plate-and without an ounce of grace? Why is the owner folding napkins on her bare thighs? Did she not have to pass a health department training course to get licensed? The film stereotypes and belittles. It is not thought provoking in the least. It's not an awful film, but it sure is corny.
This Is Me... Now: A Love Story (2024)
Unwatchable...sorry
Love JLO. She's beautiful. Great dancer, Great singer. I've even bought some things from her clothing line. She seems to be a very likable person. BUT, this movie is not one of her successes. I feel sorry for her. It just doesn't work. And you can tell that she worked really hard to make this movie. It's like if someone was trying to make a salad, and they threw in two cups of rotten meat and then a fistful of kale, and then a can of baked beans, and then a ton of cinnamon, and then leftover stale doughnuts, and then a slab of tofu... Too much production and not enough genuineness. Sometimes less is more.
Groomzilla (2018)
Very sweet movie, a feel-good film
I enjoyed this movie and thought the cast did a great job. The actor who played Tucker brought a lot of energy to the part. He was also funny and cute. The character of Alyssa was played with sensitivity and emotion. I loved the Grandma and all of the other family members, as well as the two friends who had a baby. The whole cast was very good. Also, the production was nicely done. I liked all of the sunny pleasant locations. The only place that needed more light was Olivia's kitchen. It's nice to watch an upbeat film.
Girlfriend Killer (2017)
Tried to like this movie, but just couldn't
Lifetime movie with good photography, nice locations & sets, good lighting. The acting/direction was not great. The villain and the second male police officer looked alike, so that was confusing. The daughter was pretty good, but it was hard to like her much because she was not nice to her father and his girlfriend, and there was nothing explained to justify this. The mother's boyfriend was also ok, but he always looked like he needed to shower and wash his clothes. I also didn't see any chemistry between him and the mother. The mother looked too elderly for the role, and the storyline didn't explain why two younger men were interested in her romantically. She also had an annoying "baby talk" voice that sounded so fake. The female detective was good and reminded me of Michelle Pfeiffer, but the camera angles didn't often show her face from good angles. The male detective was kind of funny, and I wish the movie had a few more quirky characters like him. The plot was only interesting from the aspect that the villain was filthy rich and this apparently made him feel entitled to commit crimes with impunity. But even this aspect was not developed. There were several continuity issues such as the daughter entering the home without setting off the security system alarm. Overall the production was not bad, but the story and acting were bland.
