Sonic Unleashed (2008)
Half-Good, Half-Infuriating. All Fun, in a Way. :/
Sonic Unleashed is considered by some the Super Mario Galaxy of Sonic games. Is it really? It's been highly praised for it's music and Day Levels. But that can get drowned out very fast by the extremely frustrating puzzle/brawler aspect of the Night Levels. The story follows Sonic trying to literally put the world back together from an ancient monster awakened by Eggman. The gameplay at first was a blast, and Chip was a good sidekick character. But then came the Werehog levels. These were supposed to be brawler like levels. With puzzles mixed into the gameplay. Then the input of many, MANY quick time events. It was not good, and that's what put Sonic Unleashed in the "meh" category. But in a way it's still genuinely fun. It's given us some great levels that are considered the best Sonic Levels ever. The open world aspect is also a good touch. To me, this is a great comeback from Sonic '06. In conclusion; 7/10. It's music and certain levels are a blast to play, but gets drowned out easily by the more, unnecessary antics.
Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (2001)
An Extremely Overlooked Milestone for Animation
2001 was a revolutionary year for gaming. The first Xbox was released, along with the award-winning Halo: Combat Evolved, the first fully 3-D Grand Theft Auto game came out, Devil May Cry, Animal Crossing, the Gamecube, and let's not forget, Metal Gear Solid 2. So, it was a huge deal when one of the biggest RPG games was getting a AAA high budget movie. The movie was conceived by Hironobu Sakaguchi, the creator of Final Fantasy. The animation look, was beautiful. Many people praised the lead, Aki Ross' look, and you can tell that they wanted the movie to be as realistic as possible. The cast was a huge ensemble. Alec Baldwin, Ving Rhames, James Woods, and Steve Buscemi. Now, here's why it BOMBED. Many FF fans and die-hard moviegoers wanted a more, fantasy-like game. They didn't feel the more Sci-Fi-esque tone. This was around the time when Final Fantasy X was released. The tone of that and Spirits Within was ultimately the downfall of the project. Now, 17 years later, it's very easy to thoroughly enjoy the movie, The overall experience should've been extremely praised. It's another example of a movie coming at the wrong time. The movie is good. It's animation is revolutionary. This was simply a huge milestone for animation. You will probably not see a movie like this for a long while. In conclusion, 8/10; It's misleading title will anger some fans, but this movie is pretty good overall.
Kidding (2018)
Dark, Funny, Heartbreaking, We Got an Emmy Winner, Folks.
One day, I was wondering what was Jim Carrey up to. Then I stumbled on a trailer for a show named Kidding. A show about a popular Fred Rogers-esque philanthropist who suffers a very tragic personal event, and how he struggles to still be the happy neighbor that everybody knows, while everybody forces his dark side out. It's an unbelievably good idea. It brings back the question I had about Fred Rogers. "What if he had a really bad problem behind the scenes, like, really, REALLY bad?" That question gets answered thoroughly in this show. With the ever talented Jim Carrey playing the title character, his comedic experience and dramatic dominance, it plays well. The story centers on Jeff Pickles, a host of a long running kid's TV show, who loses his son in a deadly car crash. His other son is a bit, how you say, of a jerk. He's separated from his ever-grieving wife, and he tries to cope with his grief through his show, but keeps getting rejected by his producer. So we see a great person slowly growing more and more destroyed when time passes. I'm only 2 episodes in and I'm very ingulfed in it. I'm sure that this will be one of the best Showtime shows since Ray Donovan. I'm ready. In conclusion, 8/10; even though it's extremely sad, theres always an element that keeps you wanting the next episode. And the next, and the next, and the next.
Hellbenders (2012)
This Lost to Mr. Pickles... You Screwed Up, Adult Swim
From Chris O'Neil, aka Oney, creator of the NG sensation Leo & Satan, as well as the viral Dragon Ball Pee Pee, and Zach Hadel, aka PsychicPebbles, known for making various toons on NG and YT, and is responsible for Get Out of My Car, we get one of the best and most overlooked crossovers in all of the internet's history, Hellbenders. This started as a quick goof toon, but became extremely viral. The more popular one, Applooza, is one of the funniest videos I've seen in a while. The quickfire jokes make you go "what the hell?" but you just start to laugh at the randomness. This show was pitched to Adult Swim, but lost to..... *shudders* MR. PICKLES. Now, Chris & Zach has put Hellvenders on an indefinite haitus. Hopefully we can get another shot at a full show, but one can only dream. In conclusion, 8/10: while some might not like it's randomness, more people will surely enjoy it.
Good Luck Charlie, It's Christmas! (2011)
Maybe The Last Good DCOM
This, is a good movie. The cinematography and quality is actually pretty good. The plot is a LITTLE cliche, with the show's main protaginist, Teddy, and Amy getting separated from the boys & Charlie, and their quest to get to them. The chemistry between the actors is actually good. The story is a little cheesy, but is still enjoyable. Is this the last good Disney Channel Original Movie? Well, let's see. After this, we get Frenemies, Radio Rebel, Girl v. Monster, you get the pitcure. In conclusion, 8/10: A little cheesy, but still an overall good time. And a great treat for die-hard fans of the show.
