Detroit 1-8-7 (2010)
Was Going To Be My New Favorite Series
I will admit that the first episode was pretty hard to sit through and I was a little disappointed. I'm not sure what they did but it seems that the show quickly moved in a new direction for the better. I started out with Blue Bloods being my favorite new crime series after they made the horrible mistake of cutting the original Law & Order.
However, by the season's end Detroit 1-8-7 was by far my favorite winning over Blue Bloods and Chicago Code. I mention these two titles since the rumor is Detroit 1-8-7 is being canceled leaving these two as alternatives for anyone interested.
If there was a police drama out there to replace NYPD Blue this would be it. Each character is unique and engaging as well as having depth. I started out not liking Imperioli's character in the first episode but like I said they toned it down and refined the atmosphere of the series. I really like the idea where a few episodes revived cases from the past that the more veteran detectives were originally a part of. The setting being in Detroit is a key part of the series and really plays a roll well.
I would highly recommend this series and would ask another station to pick up this series if canceled.
Body of Proof (2011)
Decent series but too predictable/generic to keep my interest.
I really like crime series like Law & Order, NYPD Blue, Life, Blue Bloods, Detroit 1-8-7, and Chicago Code but this one lost my interest within the first 5 minutes. In order to properly review it I watched the rest.
This is very similar to House only with the existence of criminal elements. I like House unfortunately I don't feel Delaney's character is anywhere close to being as strong as Hugh Laurie's.
Most people should be able to figure out most of the elements of where this series will go as well as the characters' synopses within the first 10 minutes which I find unfortunate.
I will agree that Law & Order can have very boring and generic/predictable dialog from time to time which is the same as this series but for some reason I have trouble getting passed it on this show.
So I would chalk up Delaney's character as a weak House character with mild generic overtones similar to Goren on L&O: Criminal Intent, Gibbs on NCIS, and Horatio on CSI: Miami only without the over-the-top comedic values of Horatio. I am tiring of the know-it-all, super-hero, arrogant type characters in TV series these days...
I may catch an episode later to see if there have been any improvements but I won't be setting this up on the DVR yet.
I am curious how they will be developing the beer truck driver as Deputy Chief Medical Examiner though...
...Something else I just discovered is that this seemingly Horatio-inspired series will most likely replace Detroit 1-8-7. I can't help but think there was some politics involved...I would think this was a horrible move but the CSI franchise remains alive and well so what do I know...
Hawaii Five-0 (2010)
Nice Action Series, Beautiful Scenery.
So I DVR this series but I'm not sure I'll be able to continue watching it. I'll have to see how it goes. The scenery is awesome, especially to watch it while it gets cold and depressing where I live. The cast of characters mix very well and the two main characters have a good dynamic. I wish Scott Caan was as good of an actor as his father...The episodes are very fluid and keep the viewers attention pretty well. The plot lines are usually pretty transparent and filled with action. There is also a little bit of Hawaiian culture thrown in which I like. Unfortunately I perceive a little bit of a CSI:Miami(Horatio=Too Cool) Factor that produces one-liners that are too cheesy and I find really distracting. These seem to have gotten a little worse from episode to episode but I'll hang on and see if things improve. Otherwise I'll be left with Blue Bloods as my only local broadcasting series holding my loyalty/attention.
