Rachael Ray's Italian Dream Home (2022)
Everything That is Wrong With Society
We live in a me, me, me society. She is one of the worst examples I have seen of this in my opinion, though I did have a recent horrible experience with a realtor that was worse. Rich, entitled, unable to see anyone else's point of view or take into account anyone else's feelings. Surely she can't be happy being like that; but then again, maybe she has no conscience and making people nervous and terrified of displeasing her makes her happy. Worst of all, the renovation is not that good thanks to her very, very average design ideas. She, of course, thinks everything she does is wonderful. It would almost be comical if she weren't making so many people miserable in her wake. In my opinion, she is a reflection of the self-centered, materialistic society we live in. No one seems to care about anyone else anymore. So very sad.
Rico to the Rescue (2023)
Typical Contractor
In the one episode I sat through, (cringing the whole time) Rico came in to help a couple who had been ripped off by multiple contractors. You could clearly see the work they had paid a lot of money for was very shoddy and needed to be ripped out. He promised to speak to a couple of the contractors to see if he could negotiate something for them. He spoke to both contractors who, of course, dissed the homeowners. Rico instantly bought everything they said. They, of course blamed the homeowners saying they were picky and demanding, and Rico seemed to characterize them in that way too based solely on what the two contractors said, even though they had taken a lot of money from them and the only work they had done looked terrible. Rico even tried to rehire one of the guys!
He took the contractors' side and said over and over that homeowners should just leave contractors alone and let them do their job. That is ridiculous! Most contractors are not honest and not that skilled in my experience and will do whatever they can get away with. A lot of them will give you a bid and then suddenly need more money when they haven't even done the work they were contracted to do or do shoddy work. You have to watch them and make sure you are getting what you pay for.
Rico charged the homeowners 200k to remodel their tiny house which was very expensive given the little that they got. The prices they were quoting were very high and they just seemed to come up with them off the top of their head. The house got finished but wasn't great in my opinion.
The home owner's were not allowed to site visit or have any input during construction as though they were naughty children. Rico did everything to his taste and chose all the finishes. That is not how he normally does things apparently but he believed the contractors that the couple was difficult. He said, we don't like to be micromanaged. That is the sign of a bad contractor in my opinion. If someone is giving you 200k to do a basic remodel of some rooms in their tiny ranch home, then they have the right to check on the work, choose finishes themselves, and make sure things are done the way they want. It's not the contractors house and it's not their money after all. They are paid to build what the homeowners want and should just be happy they get paid so darn much for helping someone else realize their design vision. They are supposed to work for the homeowner, not the other way around.
Doctor Doctor (2016)
One Note Main Characters
This show had some potential but the way Penny is constantly so attracted to a guy who sees women as objects to use and throw away is a bit surprising in this day and age. Hugh never seems to evolve in my opinion and Penny should have realized from the start that he's not worth her time. Not a good example of how anyone should behave and, given the influence TV clearly has on society, I think we should support something with higher standards for both men and women.
Lucky Dog (2013)
Heavily Staged, Boring
This show was better with Brandon McMillan, though it was still a little predictable and faked. The new revised show is terrible; boring, every show is basically the same. The new cast are boring in my opinion. Brandon seemed to genuinely care at least. Maybe it needs a more creative production team and fewer owners who want the dogs for selfish reasons, like to calm their anxiety. What happened to adopting a dog because you simply want to provide it with a great home? People are way too focused on themselves nowadays. Maybe they would be less miserable if they focused on helping others.
Home Town (2016)
Love the Show But Not Season 4 so far
I don't like the new season so far. In the first episode they "rescued" what clearly looked like a dead dragonfly from inside a house and then cut away to what was clearly a film of another dragonfly flying away. I don't like those kinds of tricks. Be honest.
I also don't like the situation with the first house they renovated. Something doesn't smell right. It was supposed to be a situation where an actor from California (can you spell publicity boys and girls) wanted to buy and renovate a home for a poor family to RENT to own. They talked about a young family moving in. In the end, they chose a single old man who would not ever be able to pay off the home before he kicks the bucket. Seems strange to choose to "help" one man when they could have helped a family actually eventually own the home. In a rent to own situation, the owners maintain ownership until the house is paid off. It can be profitable. Maybe they loved the results so much that they didn't want a bunch of kids messing up their house? A tornado came through right after it was finished and wrecked the house. The TV hosts have vowed to rebuild it....for the rich actor from California.?????? Maybe if they had disclosed more details of the financial deal I would feel better about it but, as it stands, I'm not feeling nearly as good about it as they would like or probably expected us all to.
Buddy vs. Duff (2019)
Buddy Ripped Off - Show Must be Fixed
If you watch the wedding cake episode and the finale, you will see that the fix was in. Buddy and his assistant's work blew Duff's assistant's lame work (Duff's assistant did all of the work on his cakes) out of the water. It seemed like the judges were giving Duff more points solely because of creativity but, in the finale, Buddy far, far surpassed Duff on creativity, execution, style, presentation, etc. and still Duff won. Duff's lunar cake was a total fail in every category. It was a joke. Duff never did much on his cakes anyway. His assistant did almost everything while Duff spent all of his time doing some miniature design work. It was like he was overwhelmed and just doing something to calm himself and pass the time while his poor assistant took on all of the stress and work..
He may have set this up to humiliate Buddy but Duff is the one who should be embarrassed and humiliated. It makes me question all of those competition baking shows that I have watched with Duff now. They are likely all fixed. He comes across as a nice guy but may not be at all in real life. The judges on the show were clearly biased towards Duff and I have no respect for them. I'm not sure how Sherry whatever her name is got hired but, if they continue the show for another season, I hope they fire her. No taste and questionable integrity in my opinion..
