Kansen (2004)
Another great J-Horror
I found this movie to be one of the best I have ever seen. True, they could have chosen a different lead actor and the beginning was a little slow, but everything else was great. The movie takes place in a old hospital, one that is in serious need of some more funding and staff. Most of the other nurses and doctors have quite and the rest of the staff are starting to become stressed from all the overtime. Suddenly a new patient is brought in, and then things start to get good.
Although the movie may have you feeling very confused and cheated at the begging, all explains itself, and if your clever enough to figure out the somewhat complicated story line, then it will quickly become one of the best you've seen in a while. The whole film is intertwined with suspense and a deep psychological aspect that makes this movie worth watching. Unfortunately, not everyone will end up enjoying this film due to the complexity of the plot and the fact that it is easy to get lost, especially since most people watching it here in North America and Europe, will be trying to watch the film and read the sub-titles at the same time.
Over all the movie is definitely worth the time and effort used in trying to find it in the first place; it is truly a must see.
Hide and Seek (2005)
Good... for a while
This movie was not so bad, except for the lousy ending. It is great at scaring you psychologically and really kicks up the suspense meter. The problem? About 1 hour and 15 minutes into the movie. Right as we get to the big plot twist, it goes all wrong. The twist in itself is very good, one of the best I've ever seen, the problem lies outside of that. Right as we learn the big secrete, the movie should have just ended. Stopped right there, we should have seen the credits and moved on with our lives, but we don't. They keep going and end up turning this great film, into a really lousy piece of work. I had to force myself to finish the film. They go so off the path, that even the great acting, excellent effects and awesome story line can't fix the damage that had been done. They literally ruin the movie, making it into stupid American horror film. This movie lost points and fans with that one little glitch. The movie is worth seeing, for sure, but as soon as you come to that fateful scene, watch it, love it and then turn it off.
The Fog (2005)
Very poor attempt at horror
I found this movie to be rather awful. The whole thing seems to be made of cheep scares. The plot made almost no sense, and it took almost the whole movie to even figure it out. When the ending arrived (thank god) it made so little sense in itself, I'm still trying to figure out what happened. The movie was really just a big set with a fog machine and a truck load of corpses (dolls). it seemed as though they attempted to scare the audience by showing every marred corpse at least twice, and unnecessarily killed of characters to 'add' to the effect. The acting was terrible, the ending sucked, and you can name more then a dozen impossibilities. (not counting the whole ghost story) even the leapers were designed wrong. The movie sucked over all and I don't recommend wasting any time or money to see it.
