I Am Not Okay with This (2020)
Brilliant
When I first saw this TV show being advertised, I didn't know what to think. I had no clue if I was going to like it or it was just going to be a cringy, lovey dovey kinda thing, where the actors/actresses can't act.
Then, I sat down and watched the whole show in one night because I was hooked. The acting was amazing, since quite often, sometimes it can be hard to find young actors and actresses, and I know that isn't always true. The story line was really cool, and took turns that you weren't expecting, particularly the ending, that really took me by surprise. It was comical but also emotional, and I can't wait for a new season.
Let It Snow (2019)
#theytried
It tried to be love actually, but was it...............take a wild guess............no.....
The acting, in some cases wasn't bad from everyone and the film picture wasn't bad by any means, but the story line really did attempt to copy that of Love Actually, which is a movie I thoroughly enjoyed and I'm not really one for rom coms (Rubbish Old Manky Cringey Overated Movies).
I just thought the story lines and character development were in no way good. At times, you could sometimes feel a glimpse of sympathy, but not really. I liked how they incorporated LGBTQ+ into it, expect for the fact they messed up that story line too, but please don't get me started on that.
The tin foil lady thing.....didn't really........make sense. It was like an attempt at comedy but.......it didn't work.
I thought this could have had the potential to be a good film, if, on personal opinion, it wasn't rushed as the plot could have been okay, but they didn't take much time with developing those plots and the script writing wasn't great.
Comedy is a hit or miss, which I do understand. It can be incredibly hard to hit it right with comedy, but I'm afraid it didn't really make me laugh.
It might be just me, but I didn't overalls enjoy this movie.
Maze Runner: The Death Cure (2018)
Amazing
I thought this was an absolutely superb ending to a great trilogy. It was filled with action, adventure, comical moments and some quite sad parts.
The acting was phenomenal, especially that of Dylan O'Brien and Thomas Brodie Sangster. I thought the soundtrack was good as well, but it wasn't a Hans Zimmer, but who can be?
I think you need to see these films for what they are. I know many people will rate a trilogy like this down because it wasn't as good as the book, or they left out some vital parts. Coming from someone who has also read the books, I know you can't include everything, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it. You really begin to feel for the characters. These films definitely deserved higher and better ratings than what it has got, and I'm sure many would agree with me.
Another thing is, some people came to this trilogy thinking it was going to be 100% realistic, which it is, but in its own way. It is woven together tightly so is hard to unthread it, but it is science fiction, but people didn't seem to know that when they came to watch it. If you're going to enjoy it, you need to let yourself become engrossed in the movie, like I did.
Special effects weren't amazing but they are what they are. They were saved by an awesome plot line. You need to respect these films for what they are to enjoy them, and understand sometimes you need to let your mind drift a little.
I recommend watching this trilogy because they are incredible, and very entertaining.
How It Should Have Ended (2005)
Watched it for years and I love it
Hishe (How It Should Have Ended) is so funny and it really makes you realise some things about different films you may not have known, of course with the mocking side of things.
I think what most people worry about with hishe is that they put down movies, which I am here to say that they don't. What they do is show where the story may have gone if one of the characters took an alternate route or what another possible ending could have been.
As well as that, hishe do have there own jokes and special twists. If you have been watching for long enough or seen many of there videos, you would know about the super cafe, "do you want to know my secret identity" and "because I'm Batman". For those of you who don't know, the super cafe is where batman and superman are always seen hanging out. Usually, the main characters from the movie they were making a video on, would go and sit with them and they would talk. These are usually funny little chats or arguments where usually, Batman or superman (usually Batman) starts competition between them.
Basically, it is all just a bit of a laugh. It is so funny and if you are into movies like I am, I would suggest watching these videos as they definitely know what they are talking about. Some videos can be a little bit rude so not for all ages but those videos are in the minority. There really aren't that many. Normally those that are slightly rude, are the ones where the film is rude in the first place.
Paul Blart: Mall Cop (2009)
Loved it. For all the family
I loved this movie. I thought it was very funny and meant for all the family. I think the reason why it was given a slightly lower rating was because most people were expecting a full on spy movie or police investigation, which I am here to tell you, it's not. It kind of gets to that towards half way through the movie, but it's meant to be a comedy, so isn't necessarily going to be taken seriously.
The storyline overall was great and easy enough to follow. A man got a job as a mall cop and all the way through the movie is trying to impress a girl. I won't say any more than that as I don't want to spoil anything, as there are some plot twists.
The casting was spot on perfect. It wasn't like 'woah that acting is amazing' because it is hard to pick those people out when they don't have a scene where something has gone wrong or given a very powerful line. Nothing very special but at the same time, I doubt we could have gotten any better. There were no weak moments from any of the actors.
The comical side of things was also perfect. They didn't try to force jokes or funny scenes, you could tell it just all lead on naturally, which is a good thing. You can really tell when ideas have been forced and then it doesn't work.
The music wasn't anything you'd really pick up on but it was still there and wasn't bad but wasn't absolutely amazing either.
This movie is definitely for all ages. It is a family film as well, and fit for most people, unless they don't like a good laugh.
For some reason, the guy at the beginning who goes round with Paul Blart reminds me of Moriaty from the TV series Sherlock, no clue why but he does. (Moriaty in the TV series is absolutely brilliant, just saying).
Dumbo (2019)
Good
The film was good but I wouldn't go as far to say it was brilliant. Parts of it were brilliant but not all. Definitely for all the family and if you have seen the original, Dumbo is a sweet story, as you may already know.
The storyline is simple enough to follow but complex enough to enjoy. In terms of storylines, it was perfect as it was balanced out. Dumbo wants to get his mum back. To do that, he has to do well in the circus so they can buy the mother back.
Special effects were superb. Dumbo looked very real, along with when people were to touch Dumbo, and it did look like they were touching him, which can be a common mistake in films like these but this one avoided it.
The acting from most was good. There were some parts where you could easily pick up on where they should have been more or less dramatic. The casting could have been better from some but not all, like Michael Keaton who was great.
The music was good, not something you'd point out but it was still really good. In my opinion, the first things you would point out are the special effects and storyline, and rightly so as they really deserved lots of attention when in the making of the film, and that's what they gave it.
Costume designs were good, again, not something you would point out in my opinion, but still good.
What I did think was good was the amount of thought they put into Michael Keaton's character's place later on in the movie. It was very Disney and magical. I thought that was great.
This movie is, pretty much, for most audiences. There isn't a particular age group that wouldn't go and see this movie. Unless you have a problem with Disney films (which I honestly don't see why), I would say this is for everyone.
Captain Marvel (2019)
Brilliant (no spoilers)
I honestly thought this movie was great! I loved it so much and it had a lot to offer. If you can't deal with science fiction then I may understand why you wouldn't like the movie, so if you don't like that kind of stuff then this movie wouldn't be the first movie I'd recommend.
The story is basically trying to give us a little back story on Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers, as she will be in the new Avengers movie, Avengers Endgame (which we are all looking forward to). Although this story doesn't relate to Endgame in any way (apart from the end credit scene), it does explain why Captain Marvel wasn't present for the events of infinity war. It is basically the story of Captain Marvel figuring out who she really is.
The casting, as always, was perfect. Brie Larson was great and Samuel L Jackson, as always, was brilliant as Nick Fury.
Graphics and quality was amazing. The special effects were awesome as well
Plot twists were unseen and caught many people, like myself, by surprise.
Marvel are always full of surprises and great stories and movies and this is certainly one of them. As many know who have watched marvel for a while now, most stories are different in there own ways. There is always a lot of comedy and character building (which is important so we feel for the character). Normally, there is some form of plot twist which takes us by surprise. Although most marvel films run along that sort of structure, they are still all very different, Captain Marvel being no exception.
Really enjoyed this film. I would recommend to most audiences, except for those who aren't in science fiction. Even for someone who doesn't like superhero stories, I'd still recommend it. The only element some people may struggle with is the science fiction
Sherlock (2010)
Wow...
This is honestly such a great show, checking all of my boxes. It is intense, funny, exciting and the story line is amazing.
So first, the way they interpreted the books that was set in Victorian England into a TV show couldn't have been done better. The thing is, this would've been hard to do since this version of Sherlock is set in modern times.
The story line, of course, keeps you on the edge of your seat. They, pretty much, kept the story line the same, apart from the things they changed to make it modern day.
The music, in my opinion is really good. Yes, it is no Howard Shore or Hans Zimmer, but it still has a great feel to it, making the movie a lot more intense in places and wasn't over the top.
The acting in this TV series is brilliant and couldn't have got the casting better. Yes, you do have Robert Downey JR who plays and excellent Sherlock in the movies, but in my opinion, the two aren't compareable. Robert Downey Jr was definitely excellent as his way of performing Sherlock in the Victorian adaption and Benedict Cumberbatch was great for the TV series. Also, Martin Freeman took on the character of Watson very well too. Just like Sherlock, you can't really compare Jude Law, from the movies, to Martin Freeman because they are just too different.
The comedy in this show is just hysterical. It really helps build the characters and makes the show open to a slightly wider audience.
This TV show is extremely intense and the way they build the suspense is just incredible .
The character building, for me, is one of the really important things when telling a story, whether it is written down on paper, or filmed. I honestly think that they got that nailed on the head. They built their characters up enough so that we could connect with them, and almost think about how certain things in their lives are relatable. It also helps understand the story line.
There were no gaps left in the story, and all those gaps that they do open, which are a lot otherwise it wouldn't be a detective series, get covered at some point, and I will say, the reveals are really impressive. Sometimes, those gaps aren't revealed straight away and you are left on a cliff hanger or something that wasn't completely explained, which you would know what I'm talking about when you get to S2E3.
The age for this is a 15, but I think it is more like a 12 so I suitable for a younger audience, which I think that is good. There is some bad language in it, but really there isn't that much. The swearing isn't bad at all. There are no scenes where nudity comes in to play. Also, there isn't any blood and gore. I think it is perfectly suitable for most ages. I think if you had a really young audience then it could be a bit scary. Also, a really young audience might not understand certain parts.
Overall, this is a great TV show and ticks all of the boxes. If you are looking for something else like this, you could watch maybe Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, which is also a 15 but has more blood and gore in it, or the Sherlock Holmes movies with Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law, all which are also on Netflix
Mary Poppins Returns (2018)
Magical
Personally, I think this movie is great for all the family. The acting is wonderful, especially from Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins, that couldn't have been a better choice. The storyline is practically the same as the first one, but in my opinion, slightly more clear for a younger audience to understand. It is made for the whole family and is worth watching, child or no child. There are comical elements throughout the film and quite deep meaningful messages. The CGI is represented very well in the films as it is represented in a painting and the way they use that makes it look quite fantasy based yet realistic at the same time if that makes any sense. The music and songs are great which I think was really important. The songs were not unnecessary which I was quite relieved about as it really annoys me when characters in musicals burst into song for no apparent reason. I would go and see this movie if I were you and I wasn't even a fan of the original yet loved this!
Aquaman (2018)
It was good but the same typical DC
It was a good movie. Acting was brilliant and hair and make up was great. The CGI was quite good, not something in particular I would point out but still good. The costumes overall were great except for the last costume aqua man wore which looked...well... different is the word. The storyline was a bit all over the place at times but about a quarter of the way through the movie it becomes a bit more clear. This film unlike most other dc films had some comedy in it rather than another 'seriously dark' dc movie. Most dc films are quite dark and barely have any comedy. It needs that balance of comedy to get the audience laughing but still a deep movie at the same time. Too much comedy and the movie feels like a joke but too much deep stuff and you feel like your eternally falling through a black hole, if you know what I'm saying. There was the 'I'm going to blow you up every five seconds' which is pretty much in every dc film (apart from wonder woman and the original batman trilogy). It was a good film and by any means watch it but if you are looking for a go to dc superhero/hero film, the batman trilogy is the way to go. Or you could look at some of the marvel stuff as well.
Black Panther (2018)
A great film
The acting was brilliant and the CGI was reasonably good. The sound track was great and the storyline became very clear part way through the movie. It was full of plot twists and unexpected actions which were good. The plot in general was also fairly strong and the script wasn't poor. Great for the family and once into it the story line is easy to follow for younger audiences. It had its comical elements along with its sad ones so I would recommend watching this movie!
The Polar Express (2004)
Wonderful
It is a magical Christmas tale about a boy who doesn't believe in Santa Clause, so this train appeared outside his house called the Polar Express which would take him to see Santa. But, along the way, he goes through many obstacles and problems. The songs are great. The animation was okay but I wouldn't go out of my way to criticise it. The voiceover was great and had no problem with any of that. It's for the whole family and has a real magical feel to it.
The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992)
Best version of a Christmas Carol
This is my favourite version of a Christmas Carol as it is funny, happy and sad all at the same time but also, the story line is very easy to follow for younger viewers. The songs are all great and the music used to open the film is the same music they use when walking down Main Street USA in Disneyland Resort Paris. I absolutely loved the songs they sang because some were really funny but others made you feel sympathy for another character. I think they captured the character of Scroog very well and the acting from him was brilliant. He really captured how he's mean and nasty but also how he feels feel down when he sees his life right before him. I loved it so much! It is must watch Christmas film for the whole family!
Arthur Christmas (2011)
A Christmas great
This movie is an amazing Christmas film for all the family! (It's a tradition that we watch it every Christmas Eve). It is wonderful for all the family with many comical and funny elements to the film. It's different due to the theories they gave about Santa and how he gets round the world every night! The voiceover was amazing and all the way through it I was laughing. I loved this film so much so for Christmas, I would watch it!
Skyscraper (2018)
Great film
I loved this film! It built up the story line very well as it did with the tension. The soundtrack was quite good but it was no Howard Shore. The acting was excellent, especially from Dwayne Johnson and McKenna Roberts! I could easily watch it again and again and again but who could blame me, it was a great film. The story line is rather complicated at first but once you get into the film, it gets easier to follow. There are many parts that keep you on the edge of your seat. If you get the chance, watch it. I think it is suitable for most ages but I'm not going to say that it's for all the family because there are guns and some bad language (but nothing much). I wouldn't say it is violent really and not gory in any scenes. I would say it'd be quite scary for really young viewers.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018)
Great start to a whole new story
This film was superb! The acting was brilliant and there were parts that kept you on the edge of your seat. The end was phenomenal and came unexpectedly. Overall, the acting was great, especially from Eddie Redmayne who was flawless. The sound track was also enjoyable along with the storyline which had a fairly strong plot. It was most definitely a firm plot and didn't drift away from the original idea of the movie too much. This movie is the start to a whole new series of movies and it is definitely a strong and promising first film in this kind of story as 'Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them' was a story in its own right. The CGI was fairly good but wasn't something I'd point out about things I like in this movie but it was definitely not bad CGI. Honestly, I can't wait for the next films and I highly recommend this film if you love fantasy.
Christopher Robin (2018)
A really feel-good film
Personally, I loved Christopher Robin. I thought that it was a feel-good film, aimed mainly at families. The way they captured the TV show and books made before hand without making it too childish was great. It has a simple story line, yet really effective so it was easy enough to follow for pretty much, any aged child. Honestly, before I watched this, I thought I was over the age limit and it would only really be aimed at young children but having watched it, I now know that I was painfully mistaken as there really was no limit.
Yes, it was no Paddington, but honestly, I was rather happy about that as I don't really want anyone to try and attempt the same thing they did with Paddington in another movie. If you were looking for a movie like Paddington this isn't it. I'm not saying don't watch this movie cause I would definitely recommend it, but it isn't the same style as a movie like Paddington. It had its comical elements, but the film is a feel-good sweet film.
If you are looking for a good family film, I would watch this as it was sweet and simple enough for people to understand it. It is for any age and it was really good, as was the cast, the sound effects and the picture.
Tomb Raider (2018)
Good
It's not my favourite film but I would watch it again given the chance. The casting was brilliant in general. I felt like Lara Croft's character was fairly advanced in terms of characteristics. The story line was strong except you could see the plot twists coming from a mile away. Overall, it was a pretty dark film and there was one plot twist that I thought made the film better which was towards the end and that I didn't see coming. I think it is worth watching if you have the time cause it is a good movie undoubtedly.
The Island (2005)
Superb!
What a great film! I didn't know what to think of this film before I watched it and whether it'd be good or not and I saw Sean Bean was in it, so I was like, I need to watch this film, IT'S BOROMIR! And then I saw Scarlett Johanson and I thought Black Widow and Boromir in the same film, it's got to be good. So I watched it and I was very impressed.
The acting was incredible! Scarlett Johanson, Ewan Mcgreggor, Sean Bean, Brian Stepanek and Ethan Phillips was absolutely amazing. It was flawless. They all really captured the way their character would act really well. They nailed every scene and I really felt for the characters in certain situations.
The whole idea of this movie was very clever and the storyline was very strong. It wasn't like the normal storyline you'd see of the average film because like every good film, it always has something different about it and it's own qualities. The futuristic side of it was very clever and at the same time believable.
The special effects and quality was rather good for something of this time. It wasn't terrible but wasn't like the best special effects you had ever seen and same with the quality. They didn't use that much CGI or special effects really and definitely didn't overuse it.
I will definitely watch this film again. It had me on the edge of my seat and why this film has a 6 on rating, I don't know because from my point of view it definitely deserves a higher rating. Whether it is as high as the rating I've given this film, I'm not sure but higher than a 6 for definite. I would recommend this film to anyone but younger children may find it slightly hard to watch in terms of slightly gory scenes. Please watch this film. It is great!
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
My favourite movie franchise ever
This is my favourite set of movies, return of the king (3rd lord of the rings movie) being my absolute favourite movie I've ever seen. The CGI and special effects are brilliant for something of this time, the cast couldn't have been better. Elijah Wood was absolutely superb, along with Sean Astin, Ian Mckellen, Viggo Mortensen, Orlando Bloom, Billy Boyd, John Rhys Davis and Dominic Monaghan. They were all absolutely excellent, start to finish. They are like the books in so many ways and really managed to take the books and put it onto a screen in such a wonderful way. The storyline was very strong and advanced. The way the turned Andy Circus into Gollum was epic for something that came out at that time. It, by far, had the best battle scene in the whole franchise and better than the majority of films I've seen. Those who've seen the film will know which battle I'm talking about but I don't want to give spoilers. I've lost count of how many times I've seen these films. The dialogue was awesome and there wasn't a scene where I spotted a huge mistake that ruined the film. I think there was the odd CGI error but it wasn't major. The make up was extremely believable, especially the orcs and the hobbits' feet. The whole world was just so great. Overall, this was my least favourite out of the three but it is very close. Peter Jackson did a great job and I have no idea how many times I've rewatched these films! I hope the Amazon Series is going to be really good but I don't think it's even remotely possible to live up to these standards.
Pixels (2015)
Enjoyable
Overall, this was a fun, enjoyable, family movie. The CGI was amazing in my opinion and the storyline was fairly strong. There wasn't too much action and the dialogue was quite good and the cast were great as their characters. It was a fun movie and it wasn't as bad as many of the critics said it was. It was a great movie that I'll watch again at some point.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004)
From here it got better
Prisoner of Azkaban, so far, is still my favourite Harry Potter film, still having not seen them all. This is where everything got better, the way the story was put into action and more importantly the acting from the three main characters. I'm going to admit the first two movies weren't great, particularly Harry, Ron and Hermione. It wasn't believable in the first two because those three characters had the majority amount of screen time. In this movie, the acting was so much better and you could believe it was real.
The special effects were good but not brilliant by any means. I thought, mainly, Emma Watson stood out in this film and her acting was great along with Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint.
I'm on the Half Blood Prince and this is still my favourite Harry Potter movie. By choice, I'd rewatch this movie rather than the others. It's not one of my favourite films ever but it's still great. I still find Harry Potter fans slightly overrate these films and say everything is better than any other films and will not admit if there is a mistake in the film. I love Harry Potter but most movies have there flaws.
The Finest Hours (2016)
Overall a superb movie
I thought this movie was great and made very well. The cast were excellent and the storyline was well thought out. The fact that everyone in this movie was based on the real people who were actually in this situation was incredible. I'll probably watch this movie again and it had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I think every character had their own character moment to explain what they were going through making you emotionally connect with the characters. It was an epic journey and I can't wait to watch it again!
The Meg (2018)
Good
It was a good film and wasn't bad by any means. The graphics were great and there were plot twists that took many, including me, by surprise. Overall, the acting was brilliant and enjoyed the film. The storyline was great and rather advanced but there wasn't that many moments where you were like "I've never seen anything like this before". Quite a few of the characters didn't explain their back story completely so when they were stuck in a situation you don't feel for them as there weren't enough character moments for the majority of the cast. Though there were some who you did feel for because of the way they acted and advanced on the characters back story. Overall, I enjoyed the film but it's not something that I absolutely HAVE to watch again but I probably will but not rush to rewatch it.
Mission: Impossible - Fallout (2018)
OH MY GOSH!
What can I say? It kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Every actor and actress was as advanced as advanced could be, all playing their characters to perfection. It was filled with epic and awesome action and some of the cliff hangers it left you on was just amazing. The story line was was very strong and no matter how confusing it was, it all made sense in the end. I haven't seen the other mission impossible films but everyone is saying it's the best one yet. I would go and watch it as it's for everyone. This is a movie I can't wait to see again!
