The Mummy (2017)
Banking on Tom Cruise
If you like to see Tom Cruise, you may like this movie. It's full of the action of Tom as in Mission Impossible, but nothing new. If you expect to see a story like the previous movies of Mummy, forget it, this is a completely different ball game. However, if you have something else better to do, do not waste your money on this movie. I gave a rating 2 out of respect for Tom Cruise.
To begin with, the introduction of the story takes too long. Going all over the place from the Crusade to London and Iraq/Mesopotamia. To make it legit, the director seemed to remember that there was some armies who were shooting stone statue. Next come an woman who is an expert on the stone which so clean and fresh like she was just out from taking a long shower. I really must say that the costume designer of this movie has no idea what an female archaeologist should look like when they are dressed for work. Surely not with a long flowing hair and silk scarf plus some neat trousers.
To make it more ridiculous, Tom Cruise is playing as an absent minded American troops, who seems to have his commanding officer under his thumb. This is really a disgrace for the US army. It is more confusing later when the archaeologist is actually working for a British officials. People would have thought that a US army will bring whatever they found to the US base, but not on this one. They carried the finding to the UK ? Why ? Can't they come up with a more logical story line ?
If you want to destroy something bad, I would have thought that the most logical sense would be to destroy it when they found it. Why would somebody split the bad item in 2 and keep them separated ? It does not make sense, but then with a title "The Mummy", common sense does not work. On the other hand, please give the benefit that the viewers of the movie are not all the idiots who like to keep dangerous stuff as a memento.
Despite all the hocus-pocus of powerful mummy that "defy human comprehension", the ending is very disappointing. Is it because the director or the screen-writer is already out of ideas ? I would have expected a bigger bang on the ending.
Like I said at the beginning, the story line is so bad. I am very disappointed with Tom Cruise's acting. Annabelle Wallis is just like somebody who just started to act and all her expression are just dumb. If want to throw away $20 or $15 or whatever the cost of the ticket, just buy a lottery ticket. You might still have a chance to win. Watching this movie is a sure loss bet.
Marco Polo (2014)
Not even close
For a company like Weinstein & Netflix it is a disgrace to produce such a series like Marco Polo. Granted this is a fantasy or historical or cultural or whatever, there should be more attention paid to the whole details of the event. You can not make a "historical" series and do not follow the history at all.
Let me begin with the setting. When you talk about geographical Mongol area, I don't believe that even in 1200s they have forest. As far as everybody knows, the Mongols have a lot of desert... not trees. This is a basic knowledge. How can a director miss this kind of basic information ?
The actors are doing quite well. They performed wonderfully, however they have to follow the script. Whoever wrote the script, has/have no clue whatsoever of the culture of China/Mongol during 1200s. Women do not attend the court of war. This is not Game of Thrones. Having so much freedom as depicted by this series is really out of context. When you want to historical series, try to stick a little bit to the historical information, specially when you try instill the woman's lib idea into the series.
I do understand that it may not be easy to find a good actors/actresses who willing to play on this series, but a Mongol ruler having an Indian looking sons ? And on top of that they are using the Arabic name ? The time is 1200s, not 21st century. There was no artificial insemination at that time and you do not produce Indian looked offspring by marrying a Chinese woman. Why can't the director find more Chinese/Mongolian actors to play this series ? Is this another Hollywood things that the main casts have to be white, regardless of the context of the story ?
The series is about historical travel of Marco Polo to the Far East or say China around 1200s. Granted the timing is also very close to the Templar movement, but are there Templar's army in Mongol during that time ? Does the director know how far is Mongol from Jerusalem ? How could you have an army of Templars in Mongol in 1200s ?
All I can is this, if you are looking for naked women running around and fighting, you may get it here in some episodes. Acting is good, the actors & actress are doing their job well, but don't expect a good story line. A lot of ridiculous and stupid setting (I can not explain everything without spoiling the story) to see as well.
I gave 4 for the hardworking casts who have done their job well and BIG 0 for the script writer.
Killjoys (2015)
The Usual Craps of TV Sci-fi
There is a certain recipe when you make a TV series, one of them is that the story should be simple. This has been achieved by the first episode of Killjoy. I will go too much into the story, otherwise I will be banned for giving spoilers unintentionally. My comments will most about the back set-up of the story.
The story was happening in some remote Galaxy, but strangely enough, there is only human in that galaxy. All the customs indicates that the "galaxy" is earth, but it is not. As always in the sci-fi video or movie, the background is not clear. On one hand they have the hi-tech space shuttle that can travel over inter-galactic travel, but next to that you will see a slump area which is more like Europe during the middle age plus wiring all over the place. I do not know whether this make any sense for the director, but to me this is really ridiculous.
On this remote galaxy, we will see that slavery is normal and street fight is legalized as an entertainment. Their sport is more like the wrestling championship with.... of course... gambling.
The only missing thing that is not available or shown on the first episode is people using drugs. Either they have different drug mechanism or the guy who wrote it forgot completely about the drug scenes. Let's face it, all the bad things about the world is there, why no drug ?
The action is too lame. No enough gory being shown on supposedly wild street fight. All the fighter came out from the ring, clean as a whistle. How's that possible.
Anyway, don't expect too much of this movie and for your information, until the end of the show, watch it only if you really have nothing else to do. By the way, I still don't understand fully what "Killjoy" really means.
Dragonheart 3: The Sorcerer's Curse (2015)
Dragon again..... ????
One of the main feature of this kind of movie is that the protagonists are always people who hold the justice above all while the antagonists play with their own set of rules. And of course the general rules of Hollywood applies as well; i.e.: the hero is always full of hesitation when it comes to make a final decision. This is so annoying when you watch a movie that defy logic of common sense. However, that is what Hollywood is all about and as long as there are suckers who will pay for this kind of video, there will be people making it.
The story begin with all the wrong theme. It start with some historical fact but then it digress into something of a fantasy which was what it was originally intended. To make it more complicated, a castle is created with the "king" who can knighted a commoner to become a knight just because this guy can collect tax for him ? And of course a dragon which looks enormous during the fight but small during rest ? To complete the fantasy, a female protagonist is created with the feature of an American Indian complete with the face tattooed with lines.
One of the things which I could not understand is why people with money in Hollywood always fall for this kind of stupid video. Don't they have any brain and common sense and choose to finance a better story....
Outcast (2014)
Another stupid idea by the Hollywood writer or maybe producers
There have been times, many times that Hollywood has proved itself that making a Chinese movie is not one of their strong point. To begin with, the story has to be a believable one. The Templar war was during 12th to 13th century (if I am not mistaken). That was during the Mongol time and there was no power struggle in China because they simply have been annihilated by the Mongol power. That's the first mistake.
Second mistake is the equipment. Chinese army or warriors never use a broadsword. They used slim sword and sabre. The king's guards uniform is very similar to that of the Templar. Should do more study about the army/soldier uniform. There are a lot of information about this on the internet. The garments used by the people represent more of the western culture during that time (maybe ???).
Of course this kind of Rambo style movie is one of Hollywood's speciality. One man against the whole battalion of army and still the one man army won the battle. And of course the heroism of the western style. The story writer just didn't have a clue of how the culture in China at that time. A prince and princess on the run will not sacrifice their well being to save a peasant whom they do not even know.
To complete the screw-up, they put some Indian style medicine man to help the hero. Where and who did they learn about the culture from ? There are too many western faces on the Eastern story movie ? How's that for gross ignorant ? My advise would be the Hollywood producers should realize that they just financing high cost movie (because of Nicolas Cage) on something they don't really understand is stupid.
If you want to waste your time, please continue to watch this move. I gave 1 point because that is the lowest possible point. It should have been BIG ZERO.
Sleeping Beauty (2014)
Out of ideas
I do not believe in copy-right thingy, but this is one thing I agree with the copy-right, patent-right or whatever they call it. Trying to use the same movie title to gain entry into the mind of the viewers is acceptable, but when you make a lousy movie out of a good title, then it is a different case all together.
I just borrowed this movie from my friend who bought it. Unfortunately he did not warn me about the movie. I thought it was something similar to the old Hollywoody movie, but was I wrong big time. I hope this is not considered as spoilers.
The prince is played by a character that is so disgusting. I could not imagine where in the world they found this kind of prince, specially when you make a fantasy movie. He could be a leader of biker gang for all I care, because the way his followers behaving. Of course to add insult to the injury, you have to create a cowardly prince to lead a group of people to fight the denizens of the magical realm which was created by the evil wizard (or is it evil queen ???)
The CGI is very lousy. It looks like the work of grade 2 & 3 students during their art class. The whole idea of scary is completely different and really confusing. If you are afraid of the unknown, the most logical place to sleep would be as far away as possible from the source that scares you. But not here, the gang sleep next to the source but in a place where all the source of danger lay, not a single monsters come out during the night. The monster only come out during the day...., how convenient...
If I as an ordinary (no movie star) person can see all these disgusting flaws, how is it that the director, the script writer and most importantly the financier can not see how bad this movie is ? Is it that they are so desperate to do something so that anything is better than nothing ? Is there no other way to invest the money other than this shitty movie ? My recommendation is get as far away as possible from this C grade movie (B grade is too good for this one....)
Believe (2014)
A title that has nothing to do with the story
I do not normally write a review for a TV series because it is so difficult to judge the whole series based on one or two episodes. However, when there is a uniformity of the content of the episodes, it is easier to make a summary of the whole sets.
As you may well know already, this story is about the little girl with a potential high power ability which has yet to be developed. Of course in this kind of set up there will be a bad guy who always seem to win on every chance but then never quite catch it. He always looses on the last moment. You could say something like this is normal to happen in a TV series, but there is time when you should say that the good guy should have enough brain as well. It is silly to make a series where the bad guy lost to the good guy every time based on luck and not on the action or the plan of the good guy.
There are several characters who are acting on the good guy side; however, the thing which I don't really understand is why all these persons are so indecisive when it comes to make a decision. Nobody seems to know what are they planning to do and how are they going to achieve it. The fact that there a person on the run from town to town in the US from the police or rather from the FBI does not make sense to me. Is it really true that the FBI is so useless that they can not even catch a person who is on the run with a little tailing behind him ? Did the director ever discuss this with the real FBI to make it more believable ?
And the bad guy is sooo powerful, that even the FBI has to follow his call when it comes to do the action. Is there really such a person in real life ? The fact that this bad guy is just a private citizen with a lot of money and connection can do so much in the US makes me wonder whether the US is run by people like this or they have a real government who can do something without consulting this kind of guy.
Anyway, I am very disappointed for spending my time on this series. If you have some free time to enjoy, I don't recommend this series, the story is too slow and always end up in the same pattern. So far I have watched 10 episodes and they all look alike to me. Of course the title is another matter, but believe me it has nothing to do with the whole story....
Walk of Shame (2014)
B grade comedy ?
I was hoping to see some funny story, but instead I see something that is not funny at all. It is beyond my understanding that somebody with the responsibility like Meghan could be so reckless in her behaviour. It does not make sense at all, unless this is what really happened in real life.
I've never been to LA and I know it is a big city. However, for a news anchor not to know the city where she lives is a bit too much. How is that possible that she got lost in her own city ? How stupid can she be ?
To make the matter worse, this girl dressed up in a mini bright yellow dress. Can you imagine more obnoxious dress to wear ? Of course, to support the whole story are some characters who are acting like they are still in the acting class.
And you know what else, the rating "R" given by MPAA was clearly given to jack up the movie. There is nothing sexual about this movie or bad language. Let's be real, this is not a movie for the kindergarten, but giving a "R" is really pushing it.
If you want to waste 90 minutes of your life, then go ahead watch this movie. I gave 3 because I feel sorry for Elizabeth Banks for her poor choice in accepting this movie....
The Adventurer: The Curse of the Midas Box (2013)
Imitate and worse
The movie was produced with the idea of similar like Indiana Jones, Lara Croft and all the other similar movies. However, there was one important thing the producer forgot. There is so such thing as Midas Box. Midas was a king with the touch that can turn other things into gold and in order to do that, he just had to touch the item. But it is a fantasy movie, anything goes....
The story line is not very clear and sometimes even confusing. It shows an American train style and the set was supposed to be in England. On top of that the kid actor was acting like as if it was on stage performance. I can not understand what they see behind the camera that they did not catch this kind of bad acting...
And of course, there is this Hollywood things. Part of the act was when they try to steal something from the office. Being a thief does not make somebody being cautious, but hey.... take as much time as you need and explore instead of getting the important information. There is no sense of urgency that you can see on the face of the actors who's doing it. And if you have something valuable given to you to safeguard; flaunt it so that everybody can see that you have it so they can steal or take it.
For something with a budget of $25 millions, I expect more on the script. Better make-up, better plot and consistent story are the least that they can do. I would have considered this one as a B grade movie, but the budget seems a bit too much for a B grade. If you don't have anything to do and have a bit of extra money to waste, then this might be the movie to see.
Hart of Dixie: Something to Talk About (2014)
A town full of nosey and indecisive people
Okay, this is a soap opera, where logic does not exist. I like this series originally because of the character Zoe Hart and her innocence. However, after 3 seasons, her attitude does not improve. It seems that the writer of the story has made a decision to make the main character of this series an immature girl with surprisingly high education. And furthermore, is it making any sense to have the whole people in the city (be it a small city like Bluebell) to have a combination of immaturity, nosy and self-righteous all at the same time. How could a city function with so many people like that ? Everybody like to impose their own standard to next person and surprisingly with that kind of behaviour the town is functioning quite well.
I agree this is a soap opera, but is it too troublesome to add some common sense into the story as well ???
Vikingdom (2013)
Kungfu expert in Viking movie ?
Any Viking movies will always picture the Viking as giant of a human being and they live bare-chested in a country that is covered by snow. There is not much CGI in this movie except maybe the "colossal type army gathering" which cause the earth to tremble.
If you want to see a huge muscular male, then this is the right movie. These Vikings do not seem to feel the cold. To make it more ridiculous, you have a Chinese kungfu master to from time to time talking in Mandarin and able to beat a person who is twice his size with his kungfu movement. And of course you have a girl who is so skinny but yet so powerful and of course she has to wear something like a bikini in the land where the snow is falling. Now, how great is that.
Again, even when you make a fantasy movie, try to make something which is reasonable. A tiny girl beating a giant Viking does not make sense. The story is simple, so to extend the movie time, the scenes were extended to the point of boring. The war takes too long, the sailing takes too many minutes to make it relevant to the plot.
I said earlier that there is very little CGI. In fact it is too little that a little bit more would be welcome. A gory fight without blood is not very interesting. But then again, what would you expect from a B grade movie with some body builders acting ? A vote of 2 is too much already, but I like the girl...
Thor: The Dark World (2013)
Amazing CGI
One thing for sure about this movie is the CGI. It is quite impressive and amazing. A lot of effort has been put to make this movie a good science fiction movie.
However, as in most of the science fiction movie or the stories from Marvel. there is always the nagging thing which bothers me. In the set up where the character is using laser gun or whatever they call it, there is still some army who is fighting with a sword, lance and using shield. This does not really making any sense. If they could create something weapon of laser class, why would they fight using a sword ? And to make it worse, the party with the sword is actually beating the guy with the gun. I know this is science-fiction and movie is an imagination of something, but can it be made with more sense ?
Another detail which I find a bit annoying is the "politically correct" selection of characters. This is a story of Nordic god. I have nothing against the African American people, but does it make sense to see one of the God portrayed by a black guy ? It does not matter how good the acting of this particular person, but he is so out of place in the environment of Nordic setting. Maybe for once; drop the "politically correct" attitude and do something for the benefit of the art...
Person of Interest: The Devil's Share (2013)
The best episode
Person of Interest is one of the best vigilante movie I have come across, simply because the hero does not kill the bad guy indiscriminately. However, there are time when the bad guy has to be terminated and it is done beautifully on this episode.
I like the story about revenge and the fact that a good guy is not always so clean in their life make them more humane. The normal set-up where the bad guy just end up in prison after doing something really bad does not really satisfy my sense of justice. If somebody is so bad, the justice system created by human being is not enough. Justice system will be enough if there is an act of fairness but without it, criminal should be dealt in their own term.
I would have given a 10, but I learned from my lesson, that there is always improvement to be made. So I stick to 9.
Almost Human (2013)
A robot with human feeling
I always like science fiction, because you can always put your imagination to work and there is no limit to it. The movie with android is not a new idea, but with enough work and effort this series should be enjoyable to kill your free time. However, as in the usual case with most of science fiction movie about the future, there is always a problem when it comes to give a picture of what the technology will look like in the future. True enough, there is no time frame being mentioned in the movie, but based on the android technology, the situation should take place not in the near future. Maybe another 50 years from now ? Given the time frame of the computer technology development for the past 10 years, it would be a bit silly to see a present technology being use in the future. We can not even find 3.5" floppy disk anymore now, but you can still find that 50 years from now people are still using memory stick ? Why not be creative and invent something else ? A good movie is not only about the story, but also how good the details being applied to the scene. With all the advance tech that are shown on the series, having a memory stick as part of the tech is really an insult to our intelligence. This little glitch should not damage the whole movie if more attention and creativity be put into work.
Nikita (2010)
Why is it the good guys always have conscientious
One of the typical plot of the action movie similar to Nikita is that the good guy will always to go to all the trouble to save somebody and the bad guys will just kill thoughtlessly to achieve their goal. I am okay with that, but when it become too excessive, then the story become more difficult to plan.
Nikita as a character is a feel-good bad girl turn good and doing the extra mile to save her former colleague. Of course the story would be simple to follow if the opponent in most of the series behaving like a normal human being. As in the usual practice of the TV series, the first season was the best in my opinion (I'm writing it so it is mine). However as the season progress, the script (if it exists) become more and more crazy. The third season is the worst conspiracy theory plot and it twist the story out of context...
It is really difficult for me to grasp the idea that you can substitute somebody that even the person's wife do not realize that she is sleeping with somebody else ? How stupid is the wife ? And a substitute for US president ? Let me ask CIA if that is even possible to do. TV series is a make believe story, but let's make something that is more logical and follow the common sense of general people. If you are making a series about mermaid, anything can happens, but making a story about a big country like US and to show how incompetent their secret service is ?
I gave 3 because of the first season was okay, but guys...get your act together and make something that is more down to the earth.
The Big Bang Theory (2007)
One of the best sitcom
I should have given 10, but then there would be no improvement; so I settle with 9. One of the thing I like about the TV sitcom is that they do not have to go the extra mile to create a complicated story line. The Big Bang Theory (TBBT) is a movie about geek with all their quirk and anomaly and how they deal with their everyday life.
The story line itself is quite simple, just like normal everyday life; but I think this is the trick to make a good movie. Don't create a complicate story (which in other type of genre is always the case) and just follow what any normal people will do in their real life. With this recipe and some funny notes, what you will get is something like TBBT, a very good and funny sitcom.
Let's just say, this is a TV series worth of spending your time in a good and fun way.
The Family (2013)
Funny ? I don't think so....
It is supposed to be funny, but I just don't understand which part is funny. The movie is about a bad guy who is trying to become a good guy. It is a make believe movie, which is quite normal for this kind of movie. However, it goes a little bit too far. Most of the people in the world know that the French are quite proud with their language. When the police try to hide some very important person from a hit-man, it should be the standard practice to hide them in a place where it is so obvious. However, in this particular movie, the whole population of a small village in France speak a very perfect English with the American accent ? Come on, we know when you see a movie, it is something that is made up by the director or the writer; but try to make something which make sense.
I've never been to any French high-school, but I do not believe that they have similar attitude with the American High School. How about doing a little bit more research on the subject ? And why is it on the movie that the policemen are always so incompetent ? How about giving them a little credit ?
Once Upon a Time (2011)
Season 3
One of the problem with TV series is that most of the time as the season advance, the story get more and more confusing. This is the case with this series as well. It started out okay, even I would say quite good, but as the story progress, the writer get more and more out of control. In a make believe story, you can have anything, but let's put thing is perspective. Adding Mulan (which is the Disney version of Chinese historical story of the Chinese hero) is the beginning. And then of course you have to add Robin Hood, Peter Pan, King Arthur and all sort of characters from any kind of children books. What missing now is the character from Ramayana, Mahabarata, the Eastern Mythology and the Greek Myth.
Let's get organize guys, prepare the plot carefully and do not go too much sideways just to extend the season. Season 1 & 2 are okay, but season 3 is getting a bit ridiculous when you put in Peter Pan and give a picture of him as the bad guy. This is really not the idea of Peter Pan for the children....
The Tomorrow People (2013)
Windows 8 ? Come on... can't make something more creative ?
This is the story about the future of unspecified time. The way I see it is the future is coming in a blur of high-speed camera. People coming in and out of scenes with the smoky effect and vampire like speed. I know this is a science fiction movie and you should expect something unreal, but lets get the imagination straight. In the distant future you still see people using laptop ? And to make it worse, the software they are using still Windows 8. I've seen some future movies that uses computers. Most of the directors of these movies are clever enough to hide the software running on the computer and use a dummy box to make a geeky computer of the future. Can't they do the same here ? My suggestion is that when you make a "future setting movie", try to make the details believable a little bit and be careful with the details or maybe Microsoft chip in on the production cost ?
Man of Steel (2013)
Too much CG
I've always enjoyed Superman movies in the past...., that is when the CG is not like what we have in our movies today. This particular Superman is a a plot that is bit different than their predecessors in term of their stories, but still overall the story is okay. What get's me is the CGI on the movie. It's just too much CGI and the Hollywood recipe of panic has always been the same. People panicking and that is okay, but the fact that they wait until the last moment before they run away from a cataclysmic event is beyond my understanding. Come on, I know this is just a movie but why not make it more realistic. People do not normally wait for something to come down on them, but they try to avoid the danger. When you see building all around you are being destroyed, you do not wait until the building next or the one you are one is being hit. And there is one thing with all the Superman movies. Is it logical that you can not recognize a person just because he or she is taking off his or her glasses ? I don't think so...
Gojira vs. Biorante (1989)
Another giant lizard from Japan.....
The movie about Godzilla has been remake with different "enemy" for so many years. The first Godzilla was made around 1950s. Since then Gojira (as the Japanese are calling it), has been fighting with all kind of "human protectors" and always on the loosing side, yet nothing seem to be able to kill it.
After more than 50 years of trying to kill Gojira, the Japanese director are still using the traditional method of bombs, bullets, fire, laser. Of course all these are useless against the Gojira. The same thing happens again on this Gojira vs Biorrante. The Japanese army must be very dumb and stupid to attack the lizard with the weapon that has proved to be ineffective. Okay, a movie does not always follow the human logic, but let's think.... this is the sequel of the previous Gojira movie. If during the previous one the army can not kill or wound the lizard by using normal weapon, where is the logic for them to use similar weapon again on the next bout ?
The acting on this kind of Gojira movies is always on the low quality. This is something which I can not understand. On other title, the Japanese can have a good performers, but for whatever reason, they do not seem to be able to improve the quality of the actors. The acting is so bad that it is almost like a play and not a movie.
I would expect an improvement on the quality, but sadly I am very disappointed with this one, but maybe this is just for the kid's consumption.....
Haunted High (2012)
B Grade Horror Movie
I normally do not considered the rating given by IMDb visitor about the movie, however, on this particular movie, I should say that the rating was too much on the high side. The rating should be max 1.
I was tempted to watch this movie because of Charisma Carpenter was mentioned as on of the star. If you are talking about using somebody's name to sell your movie, this is a very good example. Charisma did appear, although in a total scene of less than 1 minutes. I don't even know why she accepted this part, it is really degrading.
When you see a ghost movie, you expect something that is scary, but on this one due to the bad story and strange script, you do not feel the fear. Instead it is a hollow feeling, like if you want a very unromantic love story.
One of the ghost action which I can not understand is how it is possible that you have a collapse building on one section of the school and the rest of the building seems okay and of course to follow the title, the ghost will have the incredible power of shaking the building like an earthquake. An of course the usual light that is always flickering when you are entering a room in a ghost story is there.
A movie is basically a collection of acts being put together by a director to make sense out of this collection. There is a recipe for each type of movie. But if you do a terrible mixed, then what you will get is a make up story with something supposed to be scary but end up being funny.....
I give 1 out of 10, because there is no zero or more for the effort of making something so bad to annoy other people.....
Cleanskin (2012)
Excellent British Movie
I seldom like like British movie because most of the time the plot is always so slow and the action is so lame. So I was very surprise when I watch this movie. The action is good, the story line is good and Sean Bean is really at the top of his performance. The only thing which I do not like too much about this movie is the excessive violence, even-though it is part of the story. The skin part is not too much and I have a feeling that they are there just to spice up the movie, because there is no relation with the whole story. The ending was not exactly what I expected, which made it even nicer. I should have given a 10 for this movie, but then there is still some room for improvement...
Witchslayer Gretl (2012)
Let's make fun of the Hansel and Gretel
Most people have read the story of Hansel & Gretel during their kindergarten time. It seems that now is the time to make a different version of the fairy-tales. They have done several version of Snowhite, why not Hansel & Gretel now.
The first impression, it is either bad players who don't know how to act properly or a mediocre director who can see that the acting was very bad. This is not something you watch from a movie, but more from a high- school play. The acting was awkward most of the time and on top of that a very low quality costumes and low cost setting.
The story-line takes on the time when Hansel has grown-up and he is back to the place where he lost his sister. A little magic here and there to spice up the performance, but overall a very clumsy warlock in on the scene most of the time and trying to kidnap girls (this is another silly Hollywood recipe...., you have to sacrifice women and not men in order to do something magical....). Of course they have to show that there is magic..., when the witches are killed, their body is instantly disappeared...
My overall rating is 1, that is for making this horrible movie and spending the money to finance it, but don't waste your time to watch it. You will regret it......
Seattle Superstorm (2012)
Ridiculous storyline
We know that the Hollywood movies are produced by a certain recipe which the director of most movies gets when he joined the school somewhere in the US. When they make a certain catastrophic cinema there is a certain recipe that they better follow in order to produce "good result".
Somewhere in the beginning of the story you will see a pair of teenagers arguing about who know what in earnest and the parents doesn't seem to care and then something is flying into the US airspace. I have no idea how the airspace monitoring works, but apparently there is a single station in the middle of nowhere manned by only a single watchman who love porn.
Whatever the thing that shoot into US territory, it was partially destroyed by a missile. When you see the title, you would have expect something of the natural things which cause havoc in Seattle, but of course the this time it is not of nature so that there is a leeway to kill the Superstorm....
If you want to show a disaster in a big city of the size like Seattle, it would be logical to show the activities of the people in the city, but apparently the director forgot about it. You will see some high rise building which looks like an architect dummy models several time. To show the threat of super-storm, a little of FX animation of dark cloud. A very poor presentation of big city facing a major natural disaster.
Again, I do not how good the science project in high-school in the US, but to have some kid beats up a whole group of scientists trying to solve the problem is a bit too much. What are they trying to show ? A brilliant high-school girl or a stupid bunch of American scientists ?
The acting is alright, they behave rather well, except the father who seems a bit of out touch with the scene. Does it make any sense to anybody that a mother is worried about her teenage daughter's ability to reach home on her own ? Specially when she has a strong will daughter ? It just does not compute....
If you have some time to waste..., The Day After Tomorrow will give you a better value for your time.
