The Little Mermaid (2023)
Go see it!
Having been an 80s baby I loved the original Disney animated version of "The Little Mermaid." I knew I wanted to see the live action version but was skeptical they could do it justice. All I have to say is "WOW!" It far exceeded my expectations. Halle Bailey was pure perfection as Ariel. Her voice was beautiful, her non-verbal expressions during the time she had no voice was on-point. Eric was perfectly cast. He was charming. I loved his song (although the music drowned out his voice). What can you say about Melissa McCarthy?! She embodied Ursula. Really every single person they cast was perfect... EXCEPT Javier Bardem. I usually like him as an actor but he was terrible in this role. He showed no emotion. King Tristan is supposed to be powerful and he did not pull it off.
Spirited (2022)
Not a Christmas Classic
I wanted to love this movie; I really did. I am a fan of both Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell; they're funny and likable actors. I've never met a musical I didn't like (until now) and Christmas is my favorite holiday. This sounds like a perfect mix right? A movie that would be right up my alley. Well, I am sad to say, not so much. I thought all of the cast performed well (the only reason I watched this movie in its entirety), their voices sounded good, but they did not have adequate material to work with; the writing was drab at best. This will not be a Christmas classic in my house and I probably won't ever watch it again.
On Pointe (2020)
If you danced growing up watch this
On Pointe is a behind the scenes look into the lives of students at The School of American Ballet in NYC. Having been a dance student growing up I enjoyed the series. The kids were talented, hardworking, and supportive of each other. It made me smile.
