Intense 30 minutes regarding the youngest "man" to be executed.
26 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I have been waiting for over a year for this movie to come out. I am a little bit of an "unforgotten USA history buff" and have been waiting for the George Stinney Jr. story to be known by the masses.

I have to give this film so much credit. There is NO VIOLENCE depicted at all. I repeat. There is no violence at all. That being said, this 30 minute film was intense. Maybe, I could see myself as a small child and being helpless??

The cinematography, the acting, and the directing is top notch. 10 out of 10 stars.

Spoiler time I would guess it was not easy to get funding for this project. With that assumption be made, then I would assume that concessions were made also. Based on my little research, the true life story was much much worse. There is no way they can tell it in 29 minutes.

1. I thought it was someone else that told police they saw George talking with the girls and I was not aware that they had recanted to the police. 2. There was no way, in my mind, that I could see that ANYONE got fired over this. 3. George's whole family was run out of town. 4. They were not allowed to attend the trial. 5. I can envision (no proof) that more than words were used to get the false confession. 6. I wanted to see what they had George sit on when he was in the electric chair. You can google the pics. He was forced to sit on his bible since he was to small for the electric chair.

This film is a GREAT start to get people interested and to do a little research into the youngest "man" to be electirfied in the USA. This was eleven years before the Emitt Till lynching.

Good Girls (2018–2021)
5/10
If reviewing Season 1 only, then 10 stars!!
11 April 2019
The first season was funny exciting, and dramatic. I was rooting for all 3 GOOD GIRLS! I placed this show on my favorite's list and waited in anticipation for season 2, like a school boy waiting for prom!

After watching 6 episodes of the second season, some of the decisions being made by the same 3 GOOD GIRLS had me scratching my head! So much so, that I dropped it from 10 to 5 stars overall.

Now, I am ambivalent, if NBC gives us a third season.

I CANNOT rate this lower and I CHECKED!
16 March 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Before I put in any spoiler information let me say, This movie SUCKS!

Let me put this another way. I am not sure who I am more upset at. Myself for requesting this DVD from another library, the 2nd library (Skokie Illinois) for honoring my request and sending it to my library, or the Arlington Heights library for accepting the tainted DVD and letting me check it out.

We have to protect or youth. There HAS to BE checks and balances somewhere!!! LOL

I remember Esther Rolle and John Amos had a problem while acting on GOOD TIMES TV show. Their contention was GOOD TIMES aired negative stereotypes. Well, J.J Evans (Mr. Dynamite) looks like Barack Obama AND his WHOLE family when compared to ANY character in this HERO film.

And that is the SPOILER!

I am in my late 40's, Black, and live in a White neighborhood. (whole life.) I am saying this because I realize that some people's ONLY exposure to other cultures is the movies and television. In other words, they BELIEVE this CRAP shown in HERO.

I am going to do everyone a favor and not list the "issues" I have with this film. I am thinking Cicely Tyson needed to get paid and said, "What the hell. Why not.) I am not mad at her.

Instead I would like to leave you with this on this fine March 2015 night. GOOGLE... #1) The Richest Black Man in the World – Aliko Dangote! This guy is from...wait for it...wait for it....NIGERIA! Yes, that same Nigeria. No one on the African continent even has $10 billion and he has 25 Billion! (Subject to change) LOL

I do not know if that fact is important or not, but at least it got me to stop complaining about the HERO film.

The Jeffersons: Sorry, Wrong Meeting (1981)
Season 7, Episode 14
10/10
A powerful episode
4 August 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I watched this episode for the first time when I was only 14 years old and the words used by the KKK man have stuck in my head since then. The words? "I wish he would have let me die."

I just saw this clip again on youtube just a few minutes ago and 32 years later from the first time. I am amazed at how I am still in utter disbelief. You would think that now I am 46 and grown I would get used to the fact that some people in this world will NEVER change and bigotry will NEVER go away.

Is that me or the 14 year old boy talking? HMM I wonder!

Rock's (executive producer) reality show!
26 July 2013
This is the BEST REALITY show I have ever seen and I am a reality show junkie!!

I originally watched it because The Rock is the host! I am glad I did! He is funny and an inspiration!

I agree with the other posters that this is must see TV! I can't figure out why one reviewer gave it only a 2 rating??

This show should be shown in high schools and in colleges because it shows how people really are.

Last tidbit. Something about this show goes past just reality TV. Watching it made me access what would I REALLY do if I was faced with some of the choices given to the contestants in this show!! This show makes me want to overcome my own personal fears and anxieties in real life!!

ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!

I do not see how this is rated less than 10 out of 10!
11 October 2012
I saw this on NETFLIX. The summary is "This documentary examines the uphill battle that many people, including a single mother, face in chasing the American dream of home ownership."

This is more than a film about a single mother or lower inner city. This is a film about what ALL of us go through when trying to chase a goal.

This film is PERFECT for any parent with TEENAGERS (especially young women). This film is not just about home ownership, but choices, families, and timing.

I found myself COMPLETELY EMOTIONALLY INVESTED nearing the end of the film. Will she buy a home, how can the woman MARY be so SELFLESS, and what will happen with Sheree's family.

To find out the answers, well you AND your family should watch!

Age 7 in America (1991 TV Movie)
10/10
Age 7 in America is BETTER than the 7 up British series.
30 September 2010
Warning: Spoilers
I know that is a bold statement, but I feel it is true. I live outside of Chicago and we have the reputation of being a city of gangstas and gang bangers. So, it was nice to see the film have seven different kids from various socioeconomic regions around Chicago. Three of the kids were Polish. (It is not known, but Chicago has such a heavy Polish population it is known as "Chicago Polonia.") (I was not sure if that was a spoiler, but I marked it just to be sure.) This show had you feeling emotional one second and then laughing out loud at the diverse set of kids. The 47 minutes just FLEW BY! The only ethnic group that was missing is the Indian population (American and India).

I also was pleasantly surprised to see it was narrated by Meryl Streep.

Now, I do have ONE BIG ISSUE with the film. the kids were so adorable and compelling that I want to see more of them!!!! (lol) I can not find 14 Up in America and 21 Up in America. I had my library (suburb of Chicago) borrow this film all the way from Michigan.

The best Race relations film HANDS DOWN!
6 July 2009
Do you know how CRASH one the Academy Award for best film?! Well, I HATED CRASH! When people tell me why, I tell them that the only reason it won the best film is that the masses did not want to give it to Broke Back Mountain! SECRET: The real reason is that in my mind I was comparing it to this film. A DAY IN BLACK AND WHITE! There is no comparison! This film covers EVERY TOPIC I had seen or heard in my 42 years on this earth form BLACKS AND WHITES and from WOMEN AND MEN! It even brought to light some prejudices that had crept into my subconscious, both regarding BLACK AND WHITES! (NOTE: I am Black man living in the suburbs and date both black and white. I also have very close relatives that are White!) On a personal note, when people want to start those long dreary conversations on race, I refer them to this movie immediately, so it can save a LOT of time! IT IS THAT GOOD. ENTERTAINING, and INFORMATIVE!
