2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
More excitement in a Doctor's waiting room!
I found this movie boring, lacking a true storyline or plot and having little or no character development . Moreover, one is ultimarely left to determine what the hell this movie was even about, perhaps fearing to disclose this fact to avoid the glare of contempt by those brainiacs who claim to understand it. In truth those who claim to understand the underlying meaning of this film may not know what they're talking about and their attempts at explanation are mere expressions of speculative opinion that are on equal footing with those who fearlessly state that it makes no sense. In seekimg entertainment most of us would rather leave the theater with an degree of satisfaction as oppose to feeling like we were unprepared and flunked a snap quiz. To me, not a good movie!
The Munsters (2022)
Had cult classic potential... unrealized
Very campy and silly reimagining of the classic tv show. Was certainly a departure from Rob Zombie's typical horror fare and it looks like a decent amount of budget was dedicated to the set design. I thought most of the actors did the best they could with mediocre dialogue and an unfunny script that could have been so much better. I must say this was the first time I got to see Sheri Moon in a role other than those she played in the group of films which included The Devil's Rejects and I thought she showed a lot more versatlity than I expected. She can really act! Worth a look if you keep your expectations low and just go with the flow!
The Lady Eve (1941)
Stupid is as stupid does...
I ended up being very disappointed in this film. My high expectations were not met, mostly buoyed by the reviews of many here.
Henry Fonda's character is beyond exasperating and way too foolish to make a meaningful contribution to the story. He struck me as so dumb that I found myself rooting for those who took advantage of him. After his 15th pratfall I hoped he wouldn't manage to get back on his feet.
Stanwyck does a bang up acting job in a movie which requires the suspension of disbelieve to be enjoyable.
"Uncle Charlie" aka William Demarest, is the only character who posesses any common sense and understands reality and of course his sage advice is ignored throughout the movie. Was hoping for more.
One Sunday Afternoon (1933)
Hard pressed to see Cooper as a "Biff"!
Only recently saw this film and was pleasantly surprised to see Gary Cooper playing a more sinister character, yet somewhat sympathetic, than any other of the other roles I've seen him play. Though I get the comments suggesting Cooper was more suited to more hayseed type roles, he used that flavor to sdvantage here as a vehicle to press forward a boorish and unsophisticated character, one quick to resort to violence. Really glad I watched it. The ladies in this are beautiful and did terrific work, especially Francis Fuller with whom I was not familiar. They character of Hugo played by Neil Hamilton looked kind of familiar to me and I later found out that he played Commissioner Gordon in the Batman TV series which I watched religiously back in the day.. That being said, in reality, I'll never see Cooper as a "Biff"!
Gone with the West (1974)
Why?
If the victim of a kidnapping where you're forced to watch this movie while tied to a chair, ask for mercy by at least having your assailant mute the sound! The dialogue is meaningless, particularly that of Ms. Powers, and the score is so annoying that it qualifies as the worst ever put to film. The song featured in the film sounds like it took all of 5 minutes to create and the performance of it was evidently done by someone's Uncle Pete who was told he could actually sing. The only saving grace is that the movie justifiably ends by going up in flames!
The Lost City (2022)
Yet Another Reason to Dislike Channing Tatum!
This movie could only have been made during a pandemic where acting opportunities were very limited! While a fan of Sandra Bullock I ended up feeling sorry for her involvement in this disaster. I can only hope she got a bundle for lowering herself to this level of "entertainment". Tatum was his typical untalented and unfunny self whose only claim to fame is only revealed, apparently, when he removes his shirt. The script was unoriginal and only Brad Pitt provided any moments worth remembering. Stay clear if this unless you totally devalue your limited time on earth.
